  1. Sorry I had RL trump some stuff last weekend. I haven't been on much lately and haven't watched any videos yet, sounds like SHTF :)

For me personally, rolling in a Vic as Commodore required me to use hammocks and marines just to get up to 840 crew.  In a 2 module ship you unfortunately don't have any room to put on reinforced masts, I can't stand sailing a 1st rate at 66% crew that turns like dog sh!t lol.  This is just another example of the realism vs gameplay/fun argument, as I know there are a lot of ppl on here who want this game to be as close as possible to full historic realism at the sacrifice of balanced gameplay (i.e cannon loadouts).  I am just worried about the game ending up turning into a scenario where there is just 1 dominant SOL and 1 dominant frigate and sailing anything else would put you at a disadvantage.

  2. Which city is that?

We do not like handholding unless it is absolutely necessary in design or required by systems.

Knowledge of the port skyline, its exact location and local waters is an achievement and gives advantage to the player.

If you were there a couple of times you know the name of the port - if you have never been there and you don't know.. you have to sail close and see for yourself. what city is that.

    New York duh

  3. Yeah it's the single most annoying thing about the game right now...having to alt-tab to drop focus of the game, bring the mouse back into the middle of the game window, and alt-tab back into game every 30 seconds when your turning your camera is annoying as hell...devs never fix such a major QoL issue for some reason :(

It happens in both fullscreen and windowed mode, I reported it way back and started a thread on it before, but no feedback...honestly I'd also like to have a toggle to completely hide the mouse when I don't need to click on ships in OW as well...like exactly how it is in battle instances where you hold CTRL to get the mouse pointer.

  4. Yes I agree with larger BR = longer battle timer.

admin keeps saying 'oh you just need better focus fire better', but both teams know how to block and run away, and stay on the safe outskirts for the rest of the match.  It is not a hard concept to learn.  The only way to sink 1st rates against a good team is to cycle through all the 1st rates 3 repairs, but that pretty much takes around an hour to do when you have 20v20 or larger...

  5. I think it would be cool if they put up several real tiny islands with like 1 port and the admiralty for each country would sell them to someone from their nation for a ridiculous price like 100 million that would have one port, but it would be a large port.  In the port you could do certain things like maybe have the ability to craft slightly better 1st rates, get special commissions, cheaper repairs, etc.  And if some other nation successfully attacks it, you would lose some large % of the bank's gold.

  6. Man I just now saw this guide, no one ever told me about it before  :o

Anyways it seems like the TLDR version is:

    - Only use defend if you see them attack

    - Only melee attack or brace (2nd choice) if they use a ranged attack (fire deck guns, muskets, or grenades)

    - Use ranged attacks if you see them defend.

    - Attack when they have no prep left to defend.

Since everything has cooldowns/prep cost, I guess a general strat would be save defend for melee attack, after they melee attack start using ranged attacks.

If you select a command like attack, but then switch to say fire muskets before the round ends, I assume your attack does not go on CD?  You are only just charged a little prep cost right?

  7. I had a pretty good multi-demast off a single broadside on Snoopy (maybe a tad bit lucky :P ), but I was never using chain.  I don't like the lack of range or slow projectile speed (plus too many people furl sails as soon as they see a chain shot).  I think demasting and damaging sails is effective in Trafalgar though, most ppl will not even re-actively pull up to battle sails when their sails are getting shot.  They get caught up worrying about 5 other things happening and their position all at the same time that they forget the basic things sometimes.

p.s.  And WTH everytime I watch the videos you guys always say 'target booyaah first' :o

  8. Hi guys, I updated the main post with some more clear wording.

The reason we do not want pvp around the site is because sucking the fleet into an unwanted battle wastes everyone time. However, I do not want to police everyone's actions throughout the world every Saturday.  This is a separate issue between RAE and pirates.  We do this just to have fun with the small community that enjoys fleet battles.  We take who shows up on time and start the battle in an orderly fashion.  If pirates players are patrolling around the non immediate area and starting trouble with people enroute to Trafalgar, then that player can notify everyone on TS. I am sure it will just cause them more headaches in the long run when they put themselves on a bunch of pvpers KOS lists.  Karma is a bitch last I heard.

Short Version: You are responsible for getting to the battle site.  3 minutes away is 3 minutes too far.  Sail with friends or use teleport if you want to avoid the hassle.

  9. I am fine with not being able to put carronades on the lowest deck, but why the middle decks as well?  Does removing carronades from most of the decks on several other ships just because the Vic didn't use them historically really add anything to gameplay?  I enjoyed seeing a 1st rate with all carronades and just demasting them from 500 out and sailing away laughing why they sit there in a corner being useless.

The class 2 68-lb carronades, can any ship even mount them on a broadside anymore?  What's the point of even having them if not?

  10. That video got removed from YT OP :)

Yeah I think the current load screen is only appropriate when moving from port -> OW.  But honestly, these full screen load screens are a bit of a relic of the past IMO.  Yes they are easy and simple to do, but I would rather have what was suggested with a fixed cutscene animation leaving the dock into OW with the camera panning out to it's natural position.
