WHY . retirement

Why must the game end after 60 years of gameplay, really really annoying. Cant see any reason for it?

simple. the game is about the age of dreadnoughts and they have made a universe where aircraft dont exist thus even in said universe rocketetry is likely to have devloed and as the game has no way of putting rockets or more modern tech inton the game it ends around 1950

I dont care about the history, I want to take the whole world. Game is just not satisfying if you cant play as you want.

Yes, but we would need to slow down or halt research otherwise a whole new level of game mechanics are required. Other than that, yes let the player set the start and end years.

I do agree, I want to be fighting with dreadnaughts in 2990, after waging a 1000year war. Like another famous game said, War, War never changes.
