Gun Calibres

So...I've been following the game for a while and have recently bought the game, and love the concept and all that comes with it.

Outside of a few issues with ship balancing making (weights etc.) making it hard to recreate certain historical ships, my biggest bugbear is the calibre of weapons and the model designs that come with them.

The smallest calibre in game is a 2 inch gun which is 50.8mm. An example of a gun this calibre is the pre-dreadnaught and WW1-era SK L/40 gun from the German Empire (depicted here; https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:5_cm_SK_L40_gun.jpg). However, in game the model looks more like a 20mm AA gun, not a single shot cannon.

This trend continues on with the 3 inch gun, which at 76.2mm was a highly common naval calibre, being often used as primary armament for destroyers and torpedo boats, and secondary armament for heavier ships in the WW1-era. However, in game this continues to look like an AA-cannon, despite being a large calibre.

My biggest gripe is the 4inch gun model on late French ships is based on the 40mm bofors, a gun which would be an excellent candidate for the 2inch gun model.

I understand that the game has a stylistic direction, and that people want to be able to festoon their ships with light guns that are modelled similarly to rapid fire AA-guns that were common in large numbers on 1940s ships.

My suggestion, is that the game replaces these large (relatively-speaking) calibre weapons with models that are more appropriate, a quick google will provide them with plenty of ideas. But then add a separate category of Light weaponry which can be modelled on light anti-aircraft weaponry, going from small rifle calibre guns to 40/50mm anti-air cannons. There are plenty of models for each nation to choose from, and would allow people to still arm their ships with huge numbers of weapons and get the look correct.

They could be planning to later on. Gotta remember the game's in Alpha, so a lot of models could change given time. Heck, we just got a ton of British hulls. So just be patient. It'll most likely come. They've already changed some models based on class.
