Port Blockade

In the theme of realism and open sand box game play, can port blockades possible be real time? A comparable could be "hell camps" in eve where a very large group of players essencially lock down an area.

Straight up, it might not be a great mechanic, but as specific objects prior to battles, or as admiralty objectives... Or straight up piracy, it could work. By design, the mechanic could setup conflict where one admiralty issues blockade orders and the opposing admiralty issues defend orders for the same location.

I float the idea out for thought and let the larger community run with it...

Blockades were like sieges of castles, they need to go on and on to be effective.  I can't see that many players on one side being able to coordinate it 24/7...

 

That said, hopefully some game mechanic can be figured out because yes, they were important to maintain, and important to lift.
