As more battles are added

Allow play of both the big and small battles as separate battles with preset forces

Under “custom battles” include more maps. This feature is used to practice force set-up which is a necessary skill to do well in the campaigns

Reorganize the campaigns into western and eastern battle fronts Each battle front would contain several campaigns made up of 3 to 5 battles each. Each campaign could be played separately or strung together Each campaign would start out with set forces, supply, weapons based on degree of difficulty or set up by the player . The losses would carry over to the final big battle in the campaign. In real life both sides in the Civil War would retreat to a secure base to refit for the start of the next campaign in the first 3 years of the war. The last  2 years of the war the North waged a successful battle of attrition in which the South had to retreat with less access to resources. To prevent the inevitable Union victory allow for foreign intervention (British, French) to equalize Union resources  This could be triggered by a Southern victory at Antitum or Gettysburg The amount  of support would be based on difficulty level Victory  on the grand campaign (all the  campaigns strung together)on east front would be the capture of Richmond or Washington DC

As to the West front many of early campaigns were in the form of a large raid when a series of small battles would be fought culminating in large battle after which both sides would retreat to secure areas for resupply However by the middle of the war ( 1863) campaigns by Northern armies were aimed to capture and occupy major cities along rivers and railroads Victory in a campaign would be the occupation of a city (Vicksburg Atlanta etc.) Southern campaigns would be to hold or retake Southern cities. As an equalizer to real lack of resources for the South have General Lee and the army of Northern Virginia move to the west front by rail as part of a Southern version of  the Vicksburg campaign

As to defining victory  on the West front I would think the Atlanta campaign which ends in the burning and capture of Atlanta  would define a union victory as the final campaign goal.  preventing this would be a Southern victory.

To encourage replay set up chart of stats for each campaign to show how you did against each level for that campaign. Examples of this could be seen in early 90’s games such as Perfect General Conquered Kingdoms, and Lost Admiral
