I'm starting the Revell USS Constitution 1/96 (again, third time for this build). But researching it, I joined this web site and saw this build log. Wow, just wow! This guys attention to detail and skill in this build is wonderful!
You might have to join the site to see the images (some build logs you can, others not).
Here is the site if you can't see the images on the build log:
http://www.alexshipmodels.com/BuildLogs/HMSVictory/HMSVictory.htm
It also shows our (I mean... Game-Labs) wonderful Victory's details. She really is beautiful.
The build log:
Here's a sample!
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum group... it might go in the History section.

I would like to request the ability to remap the ammo selection keys. I must fat finger the '2' key a lot as I find my guns accidentally loaded with chain.
I've done it too! Looking, I'm like what the heck is chain loaded! (Rare, but I've done it)

How about Trafalgar yesterday? I was concentrating on firing (called target was Prater) and saw a chat post with my name. Of course it disappeared. Something about Megiddo pay attention...you dope! (they didn't say that, but I was a dope)
Pretty soon I see I'm by-myself in a Santi with enemy 5+ SOL's staring me down. Literally took 1 minute to sink me.
Previous Trafalgar, highest score, most kills... and on winning team.
Next Trafalar... lowest damage with 3k in a Santi!!!!

I turn off the circle... 'N' turns it off/on. I turn it off for the view, but turn it on once-in-a-while to see where we are.
But to the OP... I would love a misty map.

I think I dueled Mr Doran the other day. I was in a pretty bad funk on how badly I was beat. (I feel better knowing I was crushed by one of the best)
That being said this treatise has been what I've been looking for. I hope to spend many-a-hour pouring over this (already have).
Thank you, this took a great amount of work. But I bet you loved every minute.

This video popped up in my facebook... pretty neat. Showing how some of the timbers on these ships where worked.

Also battle sails are the best way to turn a ship in case you haven't learned how to use Manual sails yet.
Chromey... are you sure about this? (the part about battle sails and turning...yes manual is the way to go for turning)

Hi
How can I leave some key binding unbind ?
And can we reset the bindings ?
Thanks
It's in this same thread (page 3 I believe... here's a link to it):

Yeah, I've been thinking the same thing. I hope these people are safe!!! (Important things first and this game is not important)
-
Why?
I said I'd like to see it, but I should really know it. Was it common for ships to know the casualty rate during a battle or the status of the opponents cannon? Was someone hollering across the waves with that kind of information?
This isn't killin' me, I'd just like to see what it's like and how it affects play for a while.
-
what is the reasoning behind it?
having the ability to tell which side has more damage on another players ship I cannot even see just screams gamey crutch to me.
it's bad enough we have to suffer having name tags on all the ships. I accept the nametags as a temporary solution for ship identification until ship names and flags can be introduced.
I tend to agree... like how would I ever know the number of crew or their demise.
The number of cannon and their status... Really?
At least those two items shouldn't be seen. Desired, but I really shouldn't know it.

I agree with Dagann that thing is a monster!
Another one of the things I love about this game is all the great info being discussed... one of my hobbies as a kid, I've learned more in these weeks than I did in years. (albeit no internet back in ye ol-yester century)

Yes, but I found others more interesting namely: Aubrey/Maturin series.

I even like the Alexander Kent series better than Hornblower, but you really can't go wrong.
Oh, the link Ensign Obiquiet gave is a great place to start!

Did you disconnect any during the battle and then reconnect? Usually when this happens to me the damage decals will appear exaggerated (both hull and sails) like this once I reconnected.
Exactly what I did!!! It was funny. I was like, what the heck! My cannons shot floppy after that. Like throwing left-handed.

Haha, yeah. I ended the night pretty disappointed with myself. That Conny sinks like a rock when you get about 30% in the bilge. I fought a Surprise last night who had one blue armor bit on the stern and was still afloat.
I even had a problem with the Red X for my 24 pounders... I would point at an enemy and the red X appeared,.. move the pointer off and it disappeared. Not a change in elevation mind you.
I'm testing the 18 lbs longs now and I think I like them better.
The above picture was after I had a strange crash (I think I hit my pause button with other buttons) and when I returned (closing the client) my hull looked like that. My armor was no where near that bad. It was funny though!!!

Come on... you know you have to use primer over wood. Just painting over wood never holds!!!

Dewey Lambdin series... The lieutenant exam?
Edit:
Now, I'm thinking the Alexander Kent series.
And yes I read the Forester and Patrick O’Brian series too. I stopped the Lambdin after a dozen books (got board).

The side can be port or starboard (left or right).

and that is... Right Mouse Button (RMB).
On that same sorta question, I read you can do a quick look-around using the Alt-RMB, but I can't seem to make that happen... any thoughts?
Is it Alt - then click RMB or RMB then click the Alt key?
And... does anyone have a problem switching to the bow guns? mine keep hoping back to a side. I have to zoom out then line up the ship and then RMB.

While that simulation was fantastic and something like this will come our way in a few years (just look at games now compared to 20 years ago)... we have some very good mechanics already. Our storm fights are amazing (but dang if I don't spend too much time shooting fish!).

I need a little magic...
Ok, seriously... this game is gorgeous!

Well maybe this explains why we hear so many complaining about the pumps not working on the VIc.

Are there keyboard mappings for Repair / Sailing / Gunnery / Survival?
The keys used for these are shown on screen. 5 / 1 (Repair / Armor) as an example.

That is an absolutely beautify model (and ship).
HMS Implacable - Video!

Check out this old video of the HMS Implacable and being scuttled...
Kinda sad, but understandable given the time (right after WWII nobody could spend money keeping her).
