It would kind of detract from the fact you need to range your shot. Too far? Just lower a little and listen for the que. Too far still, bit lower until "on target!" and then fire away.

I see there are some salty comments on what I posted about the independence and I know the ship may be a bit ahead of the games time line but it looks so good!I was hopeful it would have the 90 guns it saide though
I'd be opposed to the Independance in 90 gun or 50 some gun razee form as she is a lineship and I personally do not see the enjoyment in lineships....Even if a third rate is still reasonably manouverable.

My question about the Boheme Richard is....Would she, in game, be pained like the model pictures? IE Blue with red trimming?

More lineships are not needed. Rattlesnake all the way. If I had a second vote it would be Amsterdam or Boheme Richard.

Actually a friend of mine sailed a lime green Victory in PotBS.

Solong as the nameplates have generic characters, that is, an A looks like an A and a B looks like a B on all the ships, it shouldn't be THAT hard to make that real standardized.

It's true. SHe's going to be quick, pack a powerful punch, and get decimated by anything larger than a Surprise class. Any idea on Rattlesnakes top speed?

True, I understand that....And I am sure the game will be a bit further along before we see any of these ships. But just commenting on if we still have the TDM style as we do.

Yup, Rattlesnake looks beautiful, though I really do wonder where she will fit. At 20 guns, she is a little heavily armed for PVPLite, but also a little light for PVP.
Granted Snow has 22 guns, but dosn't she carry 6 pounders at max? Or is it 9 and 6's? I'm not home so I can't find out offhand.

A two decker frigate? Curious and, somehow I think this is how most people view frigtes of the era.

Hahah, the ship with a forward broadside. Good memories of watchin this ship in PotBS, but I have no clue about the ship otherwise.....Honestly I thought she was made up.

One thing I will note. IF it is requiered for a real monetary "donation" to change the name of a ship, I can see people being very careful not to lose that ship. Especially if the name means something to them. Lets say someone wanted to name their ship after their girlfriend Samantha, and do so. Now the ship is lost in battle. And if ship loss is permenant as a number of community members seem to wish, well. That right out sucks. Just saying it seems like a poor matchip.

This is easy guys, when the Open World, and Ship Customization come out... Just buy a Constitution "class" Frigate, paint her in French colors... and Bingo! Acheron.
I would hope we have a level of customization, emblems on sails, "historical" paint schemes, figureheads, ect ect. I hope, however, we don't get such a customization that we end up with hot pink Warships sailing the highseas....because I'd end up doing it myself. I still have pictures of my Wenden from PotBS in pink colors.

I agree, but make it so you still need to earn dammage or kills or wins or whatever to progress like it is no. Don't just go "Here's all the ships or half the ships ingame, one of each class or whatever" or, at first, everyone will be "biggest ship fight!" in arena.

I get your point Morgan, but we're just speculating and theorizing and brainstorming and trying to show the developers ideas we have that may be something they were working on but did not know how we wanted it, or how they wanted it exactly. But one thing that needs to be added, and I doubt you will disagree, is color blind mode.
I still say the flags are fine enough, BUT I know not everyone is like me who will wait to get a proper target ID.

Indeed there was. And there seems to be a desire for there to be in game as well, which I support. Some people on occation will even do a little RP before, durring and at the end of a battle. And I wish this was the norm across all video games. I mean, compare the playerbase we have now compared to...CoD, Battlefield or eve nHalo. The maturity level is lightyears beyond because, thankfully, most 12 year olds don't have the attention span for the length of a battle.
Back to Pirates and Privateers and whatnot. I wonder how the game will start us all off. Obviously with a small ship, but will it be like PotBS and have us pick a career off the bat? Or will be be a young captain of a vessel, an independant for, as we will must start off as a national, right? But as a, say, young British Captain, can one sail to America in search of better fortunes and receive a letter of marque? Be a British "independtant" and yet still be an American Privateer?
I don't know but I think that might be how it will start. Bunch of skippers with no real "job" to start off. But, then one has to say "Well, the National Navies are not just going to accept a random man with a ship into our Officer Corps,...right?". Perhaps we'll be the "Independant" and then be hired as a privateer and earn a way into a low Officer rank? Just spitting out ideas.

If the names were to be removed there would still need to be something above the enemy to help designate a target. You could focus but just wouldn't know who you were focusing on. The ability to see friendly names as is would be a good idea as well.
It's why I support the spyglass suggestion of only seeing names over ships in spyglass view.

It is a word commonly used in online video games, usualy used in an MMORPG. Ganking is the process in which a group of charecters gang up on one or more players that do not have a chance to defend themselves, Or when one high level player does the same action to a player way below his or her own levelSo yea, did a quick definition search. The first is just Piracy renamed, the second is more along the lines of what I see it as. A surprise or underhanded attack because blank you we're goonswarm. Bah. Underhanded tactic.

I consider a gank to be a lone merchant sailing on his merry way and being attacked in friendly waters by a large group of hostile ships. Focus fire, however, seems to imply, to me, a coordinated attack by a group of ships onto one, and then in theory focusing on the next and next til you win/lose.
But then I ususally say 'Primary" cause EvE habits.

If an enemy merchant ship or privateer is in view the captain is not going to have a court martial for capturing it if he doesn't have a more pressing matter to attend to, even if the ship is a lot weaker.
I was just expanding on that matter.

You...do understand that her being in "dry" dock means, quite literally, her dock is dry. As in no water. Right? The only water Victory sees these days is rainwater.
