  1. I could remove Nelson as greatest admiral of this nation with england in my thread if you like. :D

Fun fact: After the battle of Augusta when Michiel de Ruyter died the french actually did salutation shots in honor of him. Such was his fame, even in that time.

I don't know if many other admirals got that.

I just hope this thread will slowly die, I was not well enough informed about de Ruyter. Nelson was great, I just feel that he wasn't the greatest of all time like many people make him out to be. Nor do I feel that he was the greatest British admiral, that would IMO be Blake.

  2. I guess I'll just add the dates of the Spanish admirals.

    Blas de Lezo - 1689-1741

    Cosme Damián Churruca - 1761-1805

    Dionisio Alcalá Galiano - 1760-1805

Ignacio María de Álava - 1750-1817 (66 years old)

    Federico Gravina - 1756-1806 (49 years old)

Álvaro de Bazán - 1526-1588(61 years old)

    Antonio Gaztañeta - 1656-1728

    Jorge Juan - 1713-1773

Juan Ruiz de Apodaca - 1754-1835(80 years old)

Cosme Damián Churruca y Elorza - This is the exact same guy as the 2nd on the list.

Antonio Barceló y Pont de la Terra - 1717-1797

Juan Leon Fandiño - Couldn't find any info on this guy.

I think there are some of these admirals who don't qualify as great. Antonio Gaztañeta in particular, he's only really known for losing the battle of Cape Passaro. He was a good shipbuilder, but I don't see him as a great admiral.

Oh, and you made a small typo. It's "Steen" not "Steed" in Steen Andersen Bille.  :D

  3. its the german battleship bismarck it was an april fools joke update a while ago

I'm pretty sure the Bismarck wasn't in an April Fools joke, that would take far too much time.

EDIT: Thought you meant that it was added into the game.

  4. Perhaps you could also add these Danish admirals too -

    Herluf Trolle - 1516-1565

    Christen Thomesen Sehested - 1664-1736
Steen Andersen Bille - 1751-1833 (81 years old)

Also, I know he's a bit outside the time frame, but the Austrian Wilhelm von Tegetthoff, 1827-1871 (43 years old), really deserves a mention as one of the greatest admirals of the 19th century.

Perhaps you could also add Willem Joseph van Ghent (1626-1672) for the Netherlands.
  5. Ages for Danish admirals -

    Niels Juel - 1629-1697 (67 years old)

    Peter Tordenskiold - 1690-1720

    Cort Adeler - 1622-1675 (52 years old)

    Ulrik Christian Gyldenløve - 1678-1719

    Peder Skram - Between 1491 and 1503-1581

    Olfert Fischer - 1747-1829 (81 years old)

Christian Carl Gabel - 1679-1748 (68 years old)

    Ivar Huitfeldt - 1665-1710 (45 years old)

    Søren Norby - 1470-1530

King Christian IV - 1577-1648 (70 years old)

There ones where I've written the age is because they died before their birthday that year.

  6. And as expected the 3rd faction in WoWS will be the Soviets.... What a surprise, WG, what a surprise....

To be honest, I don't plan on playing WoWS. I got pretty tired of both World of Tanks and War Thunder.

  7. NW had quite a community when it started. A lot of Mount and Musket players, people were mature, worked together, formed lines.. It was great. Until the game became progressively made up of more and more immature 12 year olds who would go commando, spam bayonet spin, and then say "lol get rekt m8." Nowadays the servers are just full of childish assholes who can't work together to save their lives. Several times in battles, being the last one alive, I've been slain by admins who then said "lol battle taking too long." There are one or two decent servers that actually have good admins, but for the most part, NW is a free for all musket deathmatch.

Apparently FSE is creating a new, American Civil War era game, but FSE is made up of some pretty dictatorial devs, so I don't plan on supporting them. Their forums are immature and full of trolls, which doesn't bode well for their new game, Battle Cry of Freedom.

On the other side of things, I have been watching a game in development called "War of Rights," another Civil War game. They have a lot of positive stuff on their YouTube channel and forum right now. It looks beautiful so far. I suggest that anyone who enjoyed NW checks them out, it's pretty promising.

Yeah, I've never seen a proper line, not even in a line battle.

  8. I play L'Aigle as well, it's an amazing mod. Can't wait for the new patch to come out. It's like the single player version of NW, but infinitely better. The graphics are lovely for a Warband-based mod.

You should try out the 1257AD mod, the graphics are unbelievable.

  9.

I agree when i read that list again it contains several errors.
Biggest error is the Great Northern War wich was a major defeat for Sweden. The defeat marked the end of the Swedish Empire.
Theater War was somewhat of a victory for Sweden. Sweden attacked Russia ( who had a defencive agreement with Denmark )

Denmark honored the agreement and attacked Sweden. Denmark conquered several towns on the Swedish west-coast but later surrendered ( or actually declared themself neutral) when Prussia assisted by Great Britain threatned to attack Danish Holstein.

The Nordic Seven year's war was also somewhat of a victory for Sweden. Denmark had to give up their claims on the Swedish Crown, thereby ending what's left of the Kalmar Union.

The Scanian war, hmm well, Danish army invaded Southern Sweden but got defeated by the Swedish army. The Danish Navy beat the Swedish navy.

Saying that we lose all flagships is quite wrong, sure we lose several in battle, but many other didnt get sunk.

Besides, doesnt most nations lose ships in horrible ways? Sovergin of the Seas? A single candle took her out. Hms Victory (1737) wasnt either a well buildt ship. She sunk with all her crew in the English Channel.

Not to mention the Danish-Lübeck fleet in 1566? Anchored in a storm. 15 ships went down and 6000-7000 people died.

The Spanish armada after the defeat got sunk when they tried to sail around Great Britain.

Anyway, I apologise for being somwhat rude against you Swedes. I can see that I've been glorifying Denmark a little too much, and I'm sorry about that.
