  1. Knowing is half the battle my friend.

    Have fun learning the game.

What you refer to as a division is called a battle line.

If you have more ships than the enemy form two battle lines.

Keeping the enemy line in the middle.

That way you may pound there fleet from both sides at once.

Or cross in front of the enemy battle line.

This is called crossing the  T.

Because it looks like the letter T with the enemy forming the lower half of the letter.

How about changing the game so that when a unit surrenders, they are permanently out?

My solution for high value prisoners is to lock them in the Brig.

Prisoners with high value weapons or cannon are sent to the row boats.

They are then transported to the nearest ship.

Where the enemy won't be able to reach them.

Would be nice if you could just retreat them off the map.

So they couldn't be freed on maps with no ships.

    Example:  snakes and powder

  3. I haven't noticed any thing different.  My officer casualties have been light.

Currently my staff contain the following

My navy has  3 Commanders  7 sub Lt.    1 Lt.   2 Captains 6 midshipman

    My army 2 Colonels   2   2nd Lt.   1 ensign

    Go to the harbor screen.

Mouse over officer portrait under that is a yellow progress line.

After each battle check to see if it has moved.

That is how you can see the level progression.

What are your highest ranked officers in your campaign?

  4. As it stands you may trade prisoners for money or reputation.

    How about a third option.

Why cant we press gang them into joining your crew.

Countries during this period often recruited or forced sailors of other nation to join there navies.

It would give you a small boost of veteran sailors.

What do you Think?   Yea or Nay

    How do you do this?

Select Two of the same kind of infantry.

Example Drag mouse over Two Marine units.

To the right of the fall back button there is a button with a soldier and a arrow on each side click it.

The two marines will come together to form a division.

    Senior officer will take command.

Gives you more fire power and staying power.

    Try it My friend.

  6. If you look closely at the photo you can see most of the enemies have ship names.

In my play through every time a ship sank surviors just added to my woes.

By joining other ships and bumping up crew numbers. Then when all ships were sunk head for land and park on town .

    Which increases land forces.

My one merchant would not hold enough men to counter this.

I recommend buying the Diana merchant for around 27,000.

You will receive three troop slots on the ship allowing me to add 500 men 50 cannon along with my 200 troops from my regular merchant transport.

Row boats up river to town like above post.

You can combine two troops of same type to form division.

    Senior officer will take command.

Wish there was a way to make enemy row boats surrender.

Please make row boat path finding better.

When path finding you should be able to make all row boats folllow in straight line behind lead row boat.

Same way the larger vessels do.
