Just wondering why sink them?  If your short on trade goods shouldn't you be capturing those ships and making a nice prize off them?  Oh and you know there is other ways to make money than trade goods.  I stopped running trade now cause I make more money doing other things like crafting and running missions to help level folks up.  I sale dirt cheap to the other pirates so they can have cannons and ships that they can afford to replace.

That area is saturated with ports and forts. When attacked they run to the Forts and park under the guns. We typically end up drinking them at range next to the fort. When we can cap them we do.

CCCP broke alliance. CCCP flipped Bridgetown early in secret deal to deny North American French CMs.

CCCP broke alliance not The Purge.  The Purge honored the alliance until CCCP broke it.  We want our ports back and we want your huge trade fleets out of French ports.

I also want to end this stupid war, but I don't have any right now

    You started it.

We want Basse-Terre and Grand-Terre regions back as you promised. We'll take them if we have too.

Stop all your merchants taking all our trade goods. If we can't buy trade good because none are left we should sink your cargo ships.

Ridiculous, why go to war?  This will be disastrous for both nations and why?  Not because they violated the deal, but because they talked about it in their nation.  Talking about a deal is not something we should go to war over!

It's a freaking war game!  Let them fight gloriously for King and Country. Let the Yanks show them what a united democracy can do.  It's an RvR MMO and its peace that sucks.

Back before the merge I had 2 pirates and a Dane, now it's 3 pirates, but I'm a firm believer if my Dane had got caught by anyone other than clan members it's his own dang fault for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. I tell this to clan mates that bitch about.  If you don't want your alt sanked by another nation than stop going to hot spots and get an escort.  Simple solution to the problem.

As for marking suspected traitors the problem is I see all the time folks accusing new players or clanless of being alts.  If your smart and have an alt than your not going to be gaining tons of attention to your char.  You hide in the back and remain silent.  So you can see folks abusing the crap out of the flagging system marking any one they don't like as a traitor.

Oh be warned the game is now on steam sale.  So we are going to get some more alts and even more new players so don't be rude to the new players thinking every single one of them is an alt.

This is exactly the case as Texas laid out.  If you have an alt lay low.  Bringing an unclanned 1st rate to a port battle the rest of the entire nation are attending in Indefatigables is just asking to cause trouble. It shows them your an alt and it shows them your taking their CMs away.  Just play it smart, blend in and lay low.  @Texas you might need to have a casual discussion with Lone Wolf about that.

i don't think a traitor flag issued by players would work either. But perhaps some sort of reputation system.  For every direct trade with a foreign player a loss of reputation that eventually leads to potential flagging maybe.  Sure they can go around it using the market but that is at least more in the spirit of game play.  It's the blatant guys that come into your port battles, buy up all your trade goods or just just hand gold coin to another nation.  If it were maybe a little harder for them to do it. If they at least tried to hide it better or if we occasionally get to shoot a blatant one now and then everyone would be happier.

  8. Since no one is really updating this....  June 22, 1812 ish

Pirates are showing signs of life and liberating the Bahamas from British rule.

USA seem to have hit a red brick wall in the gulf and frozen as forces are deserting the ranks.

Spain is getting new life and coming back with a vengeance and a war party looking for scalps.

Dutch are starting to make waves in the SE and flex a little muscle while kicking butt with their wooden shoes.

Danes are continuing their choke hold on all trade in the Eastern Antilles as they continue to strip everyone else's  trade.

Swedes are being Swedes and riding the Danish band wagon as they try desperately to flip the Virgin Islands for a week now to give the Danes free CM for it.

France is currently having a revolution with much dissenting in the ranks.  French seem to have divided north and south with the Royalists holding the South and fighting the Dutch while the Republican Revolutionary forces in the North fight the Danes.

Britain, having sucked up all the easy free ports, is apparently sitting back having tea.

You absolutely got to love that anything can and will happen on the Global Server.?

    Still not to bad.

After the patch we all had to grind up basic cutter 3. Then 7th Rate 3. Then 6th rate 4. Even if we were level 50 already. After that you get 5th rate to level 4 or 5.  That xp is going to level you to Master & Commander and beyond doing stuff you were going to do anyway. What he will miss is a free Traders Brig, Pickle, Suprise and Indefatigable.  Most of the nations are established enough now we got him covered.

Well that should make the sell easier for most of them. Only one guy (who just reached M&C pre-wipe) didn't have a char on the Global server so he will doubtless be butthurt for a while. I'm still a little on the fence about making the move but I will keep you posted if we do :)

He may not be too butt hurt depending on when he last visited the server.  The system still remembers your last visit xp even if it was from Sept. of last year. So he may not have to start from zero.  Add to that ship skills leveling doubles as character leveling. Since you have to do the ship skills anyway he will recover levels constantly.

All levels should be cheaper. We need this game to be living. All kind of players should have access to the game. Not only the hard core guys. Before any player could advance and build his own lineships. Now this is almost impossible. It shouldnt be like that.

We have discovered we can build Trincomelees for 270k.  That is the biggest most complex non-mark build.

Comparing that to the various money making patterns we found the following:

Trincoms grouping 4th rate missions near friendly port generate 20-30k per mission. Plus ship skill xp. Plus guns and module drops. Plus free repairs patches.  So in x10 missions the Trincomelee pays for itself.

Many regional capitals have a steady stream of lone enemy NPC LGVs that cone right to the port. Not all but many.  These can net from 10-100k from a single combat. So the Trincomelee pays itself off in 6-10 LGV prizes.

Player produced items are bought by Free Towns at high profit.  You can build repairs and rum or even ship building components and haul them to the nearest FTown and sell for 100% profit. One days labor hours can pay for a Trincomelee in one haul.

Utilizing investments into the in game trade market I make roughly 300k/day doing nothing. That will buy a Trincomelee/day.

Im sure there are even more casual ways to make money to buy and replace ships.  Most of the issues I see in the post patch game only exist in old paradigms players seem reluctant to let go.  You don't need SOLs for anything but rare SOL port battles. You don't really need first rates for anything.  In game gold is all around you for the taking. It's just not where it used to be. Ships are only super expensive and difficult when you are trying to build the entire ship from scratch by yourself.

    Hello fellow captains and developers.

I would like to share with you my thoughts on the latest patch, and the changes that have been introduced in the game which, in my case, are forcing me to seriously consider quitting the game.

First of all, let me confess that i am no power gamer. Naval action is the first online game I have bought and probably the last. I have no double, triple or quadruple account, and the best I can do is 2-3 hours of playing daily, after long hours of boring office work. I'm just an average so-so captain that still struggles with the manual sails, and the aiming of my cannons.

I belong to a small clan in the Spanish Faction called La Santa Hermandad. Small but very tight and organized. Over the two years and many hours of talking over the TS, we have become friends, and right now they are the only reason I'm still playing Naval Action.

After the last patch, I have been working hard to try to recover from the wipe. To the best of my ability I have tried to earn money, doing missions and trading to be able to extract resources in order to be able to craft ships for my clan. I know my clan mates have been doing pretty much the same.

And after three weeks of work, I have the feeling of being pretty much where I started. I'm stuck, my keel has struck the shoals and I'm going nowhere.

Here is what I think the fundamental flaw of the patch: The imbalance between time invested versus rewards received. Money is too hard to earn, it takes a lot of time. All of this time spent earning money (missions/trade) is not spent doing the fun stuff (PVP). As a result, I AM BORED. This is especially sad because I have had long hours of fun and entertainment with the previous versions of this game, and i know the potential of Naval Action.

So, my humble suggestion would be: 1) Increase the amounts of rewards in the missions, 2) revert the economy to its previous version, in which trading was a viable way of earning money, and 3) lower the cost of resource extraction. These three simple things would free time for all of us to actually play the game, and enjoy the new game mechanics.

Also, transport between ports has become another very boring exercise. If I have only two hours to play I don't want to spend them sailing to Havana. Teleport to capital should return, maybe even tow requests.

An additional imbalance which is creating a lot of frustration is the fake port battles to earn conquest marks. This mechanic is being exploited by big clans to earn defence/conquest marks, which allows them building of bigger ships and widens the gap between small and big clans. I'm not saying conquest or defence marks should not be awarded in port battles, I'm saying that fake, staged battles with the sole purpose of farming conquest marks are creating a lot of frustration in some segments of the player community, which cannot, or are not allowed to participate in these port battles. A fake battle would be very easy to identify by the number of shots fired, damage done and ships sunk. If the goal of the NA developers is creating a realistic game and a level playing field for all players, I do not understand why this obvious and public exploit is allowed to remain.

I have shared my frustration with many other veteran captains in the Spanish faction, and i can see that they are all in a similar or worse situation.

Please, make the game easier and more fun, give us more money for our time, i'm fed up of doing boring mission after mission against super accurate raking expert IAs just to see all the money earned disappear inside my mines.

    Thank you.

    Don Sancho Navarro

What server are you playing on?

There actually are casual ways to make gold. However, there is no game manual to explain them.  The old traditional methods don't work casually anymore.

  13. If you are running a cross nation ALT you have to realize that comes with some risk to it and accept that risk.

If you are in a nation sailing with nation mates it becomes problematic if you ask the others in the group to spare targets based on friends of friends Alts.  If we constantly did this there would eventually be almost no targets on the seas as half the game is actually moving cargo on Alts to the take advantage of markets without getting attacked.

If a pirate player creates a British alt so he can trade cargo unmolested at both capitals then what that really does is disadvantage the British nation. It removes Econ and gold real Brit players could be utilizing there by disadvantaging the British players. If done in mass to a small nation, like Spain, it can shut down the ability of the few real players in it to play the game as all their stuff keeps flowing out to other nations.

What we need is a way to flag cross nation Alts so the host nation can brand them the traitor they are and attack them. :)

OK so we have basically had a few weeks to clear up all the land and get the lines in the sand drawn.

I'm playing GB and here's my take on it all.

Starting without coal and having a Capital spawn so close to the pirates makes for a slow start.  Having Belize become a coal port after you make all the clans move to coal is a bit useless as everyone had already built enough to say screw Belize. so effectively you moved GB to Panama.   Is that a problem.....with a 2-hour sail to get ships to anywhere for PVP yes it is.   So basically the server is now set so the ships are built as far away from each other as possible with a long sail to get somewhere for an actual fight.  This is bad design for an action game, especially with this low a population.  Noobies also have to sail for an hour before they can set up because KPR is a shit place.

Having started with no redeemable or XP the noob grind is too hard.  Basic cutters in the hands of a noob will not progress well enough to make them feel like it is fun quickly.  We have been grouping them up on solo missions till they get to 6th rates etc but really the noob is a solo player and the first 2 ranks NEED TO BE SOLOABLE.  give them basic 6lbs and half the timer on repairs or something so they learn to use it.

The economy is broken still.  you need to fix Iron prices, Food provisions and Carriage prices in the NPC shops.  they are too profitable with a number of hours available to be given freely at the start of the game.  The iron market is a massive economy issue...like compass wood and fine woods were.....wish you guys would pay attention to the economy after a wipe.

Crafting - No XP for subcrafting is wrong..you should make it till level 15 or something so that people can make ships people will use once they start building.  Also with the requirements of items to make the shipyards it is hard for a new crafter to get his foot in the door without any method of using his developing hours other than as an expense.   In the wipe situation, this works but only because of trader lynx purchases.  on a populated server, the clan basically needs to bankroll a crafter to start crafting.   Labor hours will start costing money soon and your back in the God for damage PVE farming situation of last game.  To make it PVP you can't have these kinds of gold needs as it makes for uneven starts in nations.

Open world sailing.....its stupid...I have spent 300 hours or something and still not had a real PVP battle.  I'm not hunting it but I'm certainly not avoiding it either.  you have to make some sort of thing where you can Towships to port somewhere closer to front lines or some way to get things where it can be used without the wasted hours.  This is, without doubt, the biggest most mundane timesink at this time.  increase the speed in OpenWorld until the server gets population or something.

Conquest marks - This is just a fail, to be honest. it makes for uneven competition and considering that 1 duro will be the factor that changes who is winning wars not how many permits you have its a waste of design.  I'm earning more conquest marks a day than i can use and the whole idea that a nation will live or die by the number or ports it has is just dumb and grinds the smallers to be smaller.  Your design has to favour the weak to even shit up not make it so that one side hello kittys over the other.

I would be looking to remove the hurdles ad letting the  1 duro ship idea play out.  your changing too many things at once and compounding solutions to problems making a new problem.  get rid of conquest marks on pvp global, open al the vlueprints up or pur them in epic events or something but marks is not working out. let the game be played not enforcing a PVE grind to win and see what 1 duro ships does to the game..

you still have good combat mechanics and a decent concept.  Timeslots for PBs are still no good tho.  us aussies are still night flippers apparently

    I agree on crafting

Not on open world speed.  My experience isn't in having trouble finding PvP. It's in setting up successful forward bases.  So what if the British chose to move to Panama.  That isn't the problem. Expecting to be able to move production to Panama while still easily projecting it as if done from Jamaica isn't reasonable.  Jamaica is the single best home port spot in the game.  It's only weakness is that you have to feed it coal to build special guns.  Just build the guns elsewhere and ship the guns instead of whole ships.  On PvP G you have taken all of Panama, the mosquito coast, south Cuba and half the Gulf of Mexico.  In last years game you could defend that with teleports. This year there is no way your going to hold all that land no matter how many CMs you get. It's that sail and the time input that will trim Britain back to having to chose an actual favorite spot to keep.

Conquest marks I agree on as well. The current system is fail. They need to be nation specific or something different than they are now.

I'm only speaking for me as a  Pirate and well really I'm speaking cause want to know where he gets us Pirates are going to war with any one?  We had nothing to do with the port flip that was all Danes.  In fact we have lost many traders to a certain French clan of privateers, but they have moved on to Brit/US waters (think they are in US waters now).   They might be back they might not, but we will deal with that when it comes.

As for a Night attack?  What exactly does that mean?  If I'm correct the flip of this port was done this morning my time (I'm US) which would put it at SEA/AUS prime times for play.  There is no such thing as night flips on GLOBAL SERVER.   If you don't like it get a stronger SEA/AUS player base in your nation or don't pick a fight with a nation that is made up of players in the main clan of that nation during that time.  If you notice the Pirates flip of these empty Spanish ports have been rotating around time a bit to allow players from all time zones to get some points. I believe Brits have done this with a few of there flips cause they have a big SEA/AUS presence too, but I haven't been paying to much attention as that is my normal sleep time.

History has had many a nations that used strong acts of aggression to prove a point, but they weren't all acts of war.  Danes are prob doing that at this point.  If you want to keep friendly relationships with them than maybe it's wise to keep some of your own players in check.  Though with the current game system that is very hard cause any rogue clan or player can go out and attack any other nation.

I called it a night attack simply because it happened while I was sleeping.

I can not control every member of the French nation.  If I were to try I would start by first asking you to get all the pirate Alts inside my nation to follow my orders and not Pirates. ?

This whole thing is rather convenient on timing.  Pirates ask us to ally with Danes. We refuse. That night they stop going West and attack a French port.  I think this all about forcing France into the Pirate-Dane alliance.  Losing a Indiamen to some unclanned French (Alt?) is just to convenient to believe.

Though I do know the Danes aren't happy right now after loosing several Indiaman and several Millions in mats to French Privateers.

Declared war is probably a bit much. But a night attack of a port by the Danes is a bit war like.  It doesn't mean all Danes are at war or that Pirates are in on it.  Attacking merchants us unfortunate or perhaps just opportunistic but hardly the work of all of France. However, once you attack a port it becomes something else.  Possibly the best thing to come out of it is that France is now free to ally as it chooses.

No one is happy with France in the East. Last night they attempted to pester our fleet on the way to a port battle. This doesnt include the numerous accounts of them targeting our trade vessels.

Privateers are just open world marauders. Sink them.

I think one of the old habits that will have to be broken is the old pvp2 idea of hive minded nations.  For most of last year the populations were much higher on pvp1.  Each nation had its rogues and privateers.  No one man could claim the sway of an entire nations players.  The best you can hope for is solid agreements between the most powerful clans.  Then you just have to tolerate the rest.  The old alliance system was an attempt to force more unity. But it's gone at the moment.

  17. Its already started. We're seeing PB slots taken up by alts for the purpose of farming CMs from other nations and its creating arguments as other non-alt nation members are getting blocked out of PB participation slots.

Alts are not bad things. But when they cause distrust and arguments in the nation they get disruptive.  What is causing this is that CMs can be freely traded from an alt in one nation back to the main in another.  These alts then rob the nation of the CM production as these CMs then flow to other nations and not to the nation that actually flipped or defended the port.

The easiest solution is to simply put restrictions on trading CMs.

Option A - not tradeable at all. Specific to player that earned them

Option B - Tradeable only to clan mates. Promotes clan play in RvR and deters alts from taking up PB slots for money making purposes

Option C - Tradeable only inside creating nation.  Deters foreign alts from taking the CMs out of the nation but does not prevent them from selling them in nation for profit.

Some thoughts. But the nation cross teaming distruct and the hurt feelings by those blocked from Port battles by alts will grow into a game wide issue.

  18. Lots of drama over nothing.  Everyone from the Brits to Sweden is trying to suck up all the free ports they can get. Alliances or non-aggression pacts or whatever are mostly worthless at this time. All you guys are doing is talking yourself into the same stale game PVP2 was playing last year. When the free ports are sucked up we'll see whose really up for RvR and who isn't. Until then my choice is to ally with no one. How will we even know whom the serious players are going to be if we divided up teams now? Taking empty ports doesn't = an RvR team no matter how big they're population is or isn't.  By PVP aggression Sweden could turn out to be a better ally than Britain.  No one knows yet.

@McMannis - one French player/alt in a TS chat with a pirate clan doesn't really = ALL of France is agreeing to something. Make sense?

It all does not matter because you have to travel. You can have 1000 alts and all will have to sail with resources, being content for privateers.

One of my in game friends have built a lvl 3 shipyard in a free town in enemy territory using resources robbed only from players.

I'm not arguing against the ship construction system. I think that is now working better than ever.  My point is more based on the fact the CM system now promotes Alts and cross teaming. 1000 British Alts in Britain doesn't matter at all.  111 Alts in x8 different nations makes a big difference in the gaming societies. It weakens the trust players have in their nation mates and promotes nation members that actually have minimal vested interest in the actual success of their nation.

From Econ and ships on the sea standpoint the new system is beautiful.  But the CM system could destroy the integrity on the national societies. Granted this isn't a tangeable thing but it's still a thing.

The simplest solution is to prevent CM trading.  Adm. DeReuter won much Dutch Republic government praise but that doesn't mean he can actually have given that praise to a British ensign that can use it to buy an SOL from the King of England. But in NA he can.

You are right with the Alt counts but that takes like this from the beginning of the game is not something new. XD

Point 2 does not make any sense ... and that's because you have no idea what it costs to make a SOL. If only 2 accounts (an alt) are enough then you are saying that a player could produce SOL. If that were true then you would see ship of line even to do missions near the capitals. And I assure you that it takes many players and a strict organization to produce a single ship of line.

I do not think you are correct on this. I have enough raw materials to build an SOL myself after 3weeks. Also, If I had the SOL blue print players would line up to give me whatever I needed to build SOLs. It is not actually necessary for me to harvest the goods once I become the player with the BP and shipyard. I can just make deals for the goods. If your nation brings me the goods for x4 SOLs I will build you three and keep one.  The challenge is never going to be getting the materials. It's getting the BP and permits. Both of those just come down to CM pensions and an army of Alts get will be able to get them in much less time than single characters ever can.
