  1. Constantly tag ships for battle, go to loading screen. "Connecting to battle: timer." "Press Shift+Esc to leave battle.". Shift+Esc does not work. I have to Alt F4 out of the game. Battle never loads. Cannot rejoin game until the battle timer ends. Lost Dura 1 time, mostly I come out badly damaged (stopped engaging hard enemies). This occurs about 80% of the time I engage something. Even occurs when being sucked into a battle from a friendly.

Open world works just fine, Ports work just fine, zero lag in-game, Ping sits around 170 which is normal.

  2. Want to play like a Pirate? Come join the Pirates. Want to play like a national? Go join a nation... Unfortunate how those never seem to work out like that, ay?

Not that I don't agree, with what y'all are not doing, more power to you! The idea behind these nations is yes, that you can form these councils and whatever you want. Work together, blah blah, national stuff here...

If 2 little clans are going to un-do what your whole council has worked for... Doesn't say much about your wee council ay? Black list these clans, don't trade with them, give info to the Danes about their whereabouts, operating harbors etc etc...

I support the swede pirates! Yahahar!

  3. You still have the ability to buy the notes you need. If your crafter needs notes (and you are expected to give your crafter notes) and you can't make them yet, then, go kill something for the gold and buy one. If you can't afford to get your notes squared away, then you shouldn't be sailing an exceptional __fill in the blank__.

The lack of XP is what makes these notes so valuable, stop being cheap and lazy and go earn something instead of expecting the Dev team to hand it to you.

    Just my thoughts! Cheers!

  4. I really don't think officers should be anywhere near a priority currently. It doesn't provide additional content, only polished mechanics. That is not to say it would not be a valuable feature, but it would not provide good ROI for content generation. You could also simply remove an entire option to that list by bringing back reinforcements in some fashion to PVE against. Every single option up there is important to this game's success, but sometimes you have to pick which ones are good enough and which ones don't exist at all or a hampering game play. Diplomacy must happen ASAP. It eliminates much of the zerg issue plauging all the servers. Pirate mechanics would be cool, but I currently don't care much (and I am a pirate). There would be plenty to do if diplomacy existed. The pirates, with enough skill, could easily become a mercenary force in the mean time until such time as more depth was added to their mechanics.

Crafting still needs a lot of work. There is a very intriguing overhaul suggestion on the first page of this thread. It is very detailed and extremely deep in terms of mechanics. Working towards something similar to that would be great. I would caution that there needs to be a VERY obvious way to communicate to players how the quality of the ship affects its performance when viewing it in the shop to buy.

Arranged PVP is great, but it is not by any means a make or break item for this game's success. Plenty of games do not have this and have done exceedingly well. We already have a leaderboard in the form of a map of all the ports your nation has taken.

What is not on the list is merging the servers. This needs to happen if the scale of the map is to stay the same. I played for 5-6 hours the other day and maybe spent 60 min of that actually doing something. That is unacceptable over the long term to most players because it isn't normal for people to be playing that much on a regular basis. You should be able to accomplish something of value in 2hrs or less with at least 50% of that time playing the game. IE 60 min sailing around with 60min of shooting guns. This is would of course be a different ratio for econ players, but similar idea. Though if you want PVP to succeed, shooting things should make you at a minimum just as much as sitting in a port trading resources.

I agree with this (and I am a pirate too), he makes really good points, 100% agree with every word.

    Nice post Cpt Farragut!

    And this:

I've voted Overhaul War etc, but I'd really rather use my vote to take 1 vote away from "Hired Crew"

BTW, I would like to thank the devs for actually engaging the player base in these questions. Its incredibly refreshing and gives us all insights into the thought process of where the game is headed.

Join the war - it is the real experience. Age of Sail captains fought real people. You are robbing yourself of this experience.

  5. Love the storm but now its more of ..oh look another 45 min storm where i cant see any thing....time to alt tab for a bit.

I see no problem here. If you can't function during a storm, I think they are working right.

Does it make it more difficult? Yes.

Does it make it un-playable? Hell no.

Alt tab if you like, I like the immersion the storms bring and I don't have all day to alt tab until I get perfect arcade style sailing conditions.

I love the storms too, I think it's a bit much to give up just because storm though.

(Not trying to dog you, if you got the time for all that, that's cool, I'd hate to see storms ever removed or reduced their intensity. If anything I'd love to see more intense storms. Storms that would push you into islands and rocks and sink you or flip you, some real storms.)

Storms are local and as far as I can tell, they don't move. I have sailed into a storm that was sitting over Mort for a good long while and even sailed back out of it again later on.

  6. Problem is, even if you take away "newbie protection" or safe zones, it wont accomplish anything, just will open space for griefers. If one is unwilling to PVP, you cant force him to do that. unless you remove PVE completely (and most propably that player from the game). Good example is World of Warships, where there are (few) people actually playing only coop against bots, despite waaay lower income. And we need those "carebears" to keep up population high enough, if only for the benefit of in game economy (and the game as such). Not all crafters or traders are willing to do PVP, they wish to craft and trade. And new players already have much on their plate when they start. Live and let live guys, as you said yourself, there is plenty of pvp to find anyway.

Going after traders and care bears is not griefing, it's a PVP server, you have a shiny, I want shiny. Everyone has the opportunity to do it. The reason people do it is because risk/reward. It's very rewarding if you don't get caught, however, if you do get caught... It's not griefing.

As for the new player argument... Don't want to lose that pickle? Sail a cutter. But eventually you gotta grow a pair and move on, it is a pvp server after all.

Don't want the risk? See below...

"There is PvE server, whats the problem?

If you want PvE go there and don't bother more about it."

    ^ this.

  7. I think demotion of one level would be appropriate for nation switching

pvp2 does have an epidemic and its metagamey and bad.

So deleting a character causes you to go down one rank and start at 0 xp into it. For ex. You are a flag cap, you switch nations by delete/reroll, now you're a post cap with 50k to go to flag.

If people wanted to start over they could delete their char over and over again and get back down to lv1. I don't know what the reasons are in peoples minds but i have heard a couple people say they wish they could reset their progress.

I could definitely get behind this suggestion. Losing all XP seems a bit harsh. I also agree that switching to a severely undermanned faction should incur a less severe drawback.

Also like you suggested, this would allow people to reset their level easily enough. (For those that want that).

  8. I really liked this idea from another clan member last night. After a certain level is achieved (my addition), for example say Master and Commander or equivalent. If you wish to change nations the cost will be the loss of all of your gained experience. Thoughts?

Great idea, have some pride in your nation.. The flip flopping is out of control.

I would reduce the drawback a little. I think 50% of your xp might be better.

Or do you mean the xp you have gained for that next rank? If that's the fact I disagree, people would wait until right after they rank to switch, in which case they wouldn't be out much. I think 50% of total xp would really make you think about switching, and would punish higher ranking players more than lower ranking players.

  9. Meh, I cant control other people mate, I only do me and me wench. Convince them its not true.

I be piratin, and I enjoy it mate. Nobody else be piratin like this. Also, would be cool if ya'll would stop with the generalizations (2 out of 20 don't count as "most") /ignore the people you don't want to read.

For real though, hope we can get some good pvp between us mate.

    YAHAHAHAAR!

  10. Perfect information is not appropriate to this game, in my opinion. The lack of information, prices included, is what should drive OW travel and collaboration between players. It also introduces some luck into the world.

    * Which ports produce what can stay - this drives larger strategy around limited resources and trade routes.

    * Some price information could be provided in the Ships Letter mechanism -- "I spoke a fishing vessel off Las Aves, who said they were short of <insert goods here>" Or, "The price of <goods> is $123 at <port>".

    * I think speculation in prices would be a good mechanic to emphasize in the game, with some simulated drivers like declared wars between nations, seasonally limited supply, blocked trade routes, etc.

I agree, I particularly like the idea of the Ships Letter mechanism

  11. At this time, ramming and disabling ships are not against the rules. I have already quoted the admin. It isn't as if anyone is unleashing broadside after broadside into your hull.

If an admin would like to modify the original post, then suggest it so that they know your opinion. I think that with the current mechanic that would be a terrible idea, but you are free to suggest it. If they change the mechanic to allow us to pick our teams then I see no reason not to alter the rule. However a negative exp system is in place to punish the small Ammon t of green that you are worried about. Anyone that par takes in that will get a negative exp.

The toxic attitude is shared between both groups, I personally try not to partake in that banter. The toxic effect we have on the pirate nation (toxic being that we attack pirates) is part of the gameplay of being a pirate. If you are only here for the black flag, I suggest you change to a different nation.

  12. That screenshot really proves nothing other than all that is happening here are PTT members defending offenses by their own member because their only real interest is to watch the game world burn for their enjoyment.

I actually really enjoy this game, I do not want to see it burn at all. However, I do enjoy being a pirate. If you sail right passed one of us with a fully loaded trader, chances are we will take that trader from you. I would love to see the mechanics fixed so that we pirates can actually group together. I don't like to see the green on green argument, but as I quoted from a Admin earlier, only green on green SINK will revert your exp to 0 or ban. Green on Green damage will dock you negative exp as intended. Until they come out and say no green on green damage is permitted then it is a moot point. It sucks to lose your trader and I can feel you on that, however, claiming green on green and demanding a ban is childish in my opinion and NOT healthy for the game. Suggest a good suggestion that fixes the problem, and pirate cannot attack pirate is not a good suggestion.

My suggestion is to allow Pirates to choose which side they would like to fight for, and perhaps place a flag on the side that your group mates are on. That would alleviate a lot of this argument.

    Or

Always put group mates together when joining a battle. Wouldn't help you unless you were grouped but it would be a step in the right direction.

  13. The offense is not in reference to his character. He is a pirate, he is toxic... He attacks everyone... Sounds like a pirate to me. You sound a lot like a national US player grinding port battles because you are bored...

The topic is about his green on green action, which did not result In a sink and therefore is not ban able. I'm sure he was docked the XP intended and the game goes on.

I'll leave it at that, cheers mate, I hope we bump (get it?) into each other in OW.

(When I say Toxic, I mean toxic for the Pirate nationality. Pirates aren't a nation and we have a right to our point of view. NOT that he is toxic, bad, shouting disparaging terms etc.)

  14. I'd say it's a mitigating circumstances that the broken pirate v pirate mechanic prevented them from joining on their friend's side.

you are a Pirate, why is this a complaint? He would have fought you if he had been able. He didn't "choose" to be on that side.

I'm not 100% on the green on green.

The chat is not a tribunal issue, report his chat in game but don't use it as a crutch to bring him down.

The current mechanic plays well for anti pirating pirates. For those of us that are willing to attack other pirates, how then are we to help defend against higher BR difference such as this. It's a broken mechanic at the moment, and by your account it sounds like he didn't fire upon you so in THIS particular circumstance I don't see a problem with him attempting to block so that his buddy might escape.

Green on green damage is not allowed

if the player is green to you in the tab interface and you sink him your progress will be reset to 0. Multiple green on green kills will cause account bans

This is in the game and forum rules.

    Process is automatic

    He didn't sink you.
  15. Holy straw man bat man.

I said that based on how exploitative and impacting it is, should indicate the priority for the devs on how important it is to fix.

(EDIT: NOTE: Fix not Police. Devs in Alpha should solve game mechanic issues with fixed game mechanics, not ban hammers.)

Seeing a grumpy Victory pilot unable to chase down and get a grip on a couple of pirates, when other non-exploitative mechanics could do the exact same thing (allow the evasion of said grumpy victory pilot), in the OW should be about as high on the priority pile in a game with years left to develop as the inverse value of the Victory pilots ego.

It's not a big deal to most, so it shouldn't be a big deal to the devs.

    Nailed it.

  16. the thing is pirates are not that unique as you would think they are, want to know what makes them different than other nations? 2 things, can attack each other and can't enter neutral ports...

Sooo... They are unique and you'd like to take away part of that uniqueness. Ok, so aside from taking away something that isn't an exploit if used properly, how do you propose to fix this?

I don't see this as a problem, I'm sorry your gank didn't work out...
