  1. Hey long time absent player :/

Just a idea, but i believe in the end its not about every little mechanic or the reward ratio for pvp.  Open world Sandbox pvp is only really fun if their is player investment.  I know some people want to steer this game away from eve but i think it is a great example of a MMO that has kept its player base interested to pvp on large scale due to this player investment.  Nullsec keeps eve going.  Faction warfare doesnt.  Bascially NA is faction warfare.  As seen a longggg time ago in NA  when the Brits pushed the Spanish back to 3-4 ports they were able to still fight back in a significant way due to the way resources are distributed in the game.  Now of course this is fine in the faction warfare that exists currently....

Although again a long time ago i do remember a dev had a interview on twitch and talked about formable nations were one of his idea's.  To allow clans to basically form their own nations and those nations could be destroyed.  To give those players a reason to expand their formable nation and hold on to it will give people to pvp..Now resource distribution and how nation formed all the blance and complexities of course need to be ironed out.  Also major projects for guilds to strive too is another way  (eg. Titans, Citadels).

Anyway again as a long time absent player, and someone who belives he contributed to the community a lot on release.  Im sure many old players remember my name.... Having that player agency, and something to be able to have goals towards, and create a true feeling of belonging to a sub set communtiy with purpose (guilds that can form nations) would bring me back to this game and im sure i would sink another 1000 hour plus into.

    Just my 2 cents.

Howdie to all the old crew still playing and reading this forum :)

  2. Ok here is my recollection of events.

Lets go way back.  Spain had the Yuctan, the U.S. was at war with Spain and took it off Spain.  They came into contact with Britain around tumbado and started taking British ports (Xpu Ha etc).  The British kicked the U.S. out of the Yuctan,  then War Broke out between Britain and Spain (lots of threads relating to that :P)  the Yuctan was taken by the Spanish then the British counter attacked and took the whole area.

The British were in talks at the time of what to do with the Yuctan with the U.S.  now the last thing Britain wanted while still at war with Spain was to hand back the newly attained ports back to the U.S. in case they handed them back to Spain.  So during this time new talks started with the U.S. trying to hand back the ports to the U.S. to hopefully gain the U.S. as a ally in the West.  The talks were to give the U.S. the Yuctan and split the ports between conttoy and mugeres to be controlled one port each between Britain and the U.S.  With the note that they not be handed back to Spain.  During these talks STARS started to take the ports in the gulf and Yuctan area, and we didnt mind at all due to wanting to hand them back to the U.S.  No one defended against the STARS aggression because we saw them fulfilling the talks we were having with the U.S. at the time.

This was a very complicated time diplomatically with everyone and it was very complicated events.  All i can say in summary is that every nation is LOOKING OUT FOR THEMSELVES and no one else.

Please bring him, with logs and proof we were involved in this random and pointless plan.

BTW, I only spoke with John and Dogs Bollocks. Frankly IDK who Wang even is.

You dont know me? How sad :(

Im a friendly aussie who use to be the british diplomat, one of the founders of the british council and had long talks with all the U.S. leadership months ago :)  Go ask your clan leaders about our talks.

  3. Guys, the devs are working hard and their work shows a lot of quality and potential. Just be patient.

Just stating this over and over doesnt help.  We all know the devs are working on the game.... It's their baby, its their product, its their food on the table...its in their interest, of course they are working hard.

Sitting back and being patient while the game loses its player base and also not testing aka breaking the game is not helpful either.

  4. If half of the time spend on arguing was spend on writing a well thought-through pirate suggestion/alternative, there would be a framework almost capable of 1-on-1 implementation.

Mind you, i have read most of those suggestions and they nearly all are incomplete or unviable for this game.

Same can be said for the newly switched 'testers'. Putting emphasis in it wont speed up any proces.

The issue is known, put yourselves to good use and figure out ways to make the pirate lifestyle more appealing for both parties, instead of finding new ways to insult/annoy eachother. (Its getting old frankly)

I gave a very simple and from my understanding easy to implement system earlier in this thread  (wipe the map, give the pirates a handful of ports 5-10  that cant be lost so they can craft ships still,  give them the ability to raid ports but not capture them,  give them large amounts of gold based off the port size on successful raids, and maybe even disable all national player production in said port for a week)  I think in that system it would please majority of people...

Although i remember around steam release the developers had the idea of creating player made pirate havens, that national players would have to hunt down etc.  I think thats a fantastic idea as well but much harder to implement, and the system above is something that would fix the broken mechanics and keep the player base happy for a good year or so, for further pirate mechanics like pirate havens have time to be introduced.

  5. Wang, your intentions are good but solution you are proposing here is wrong in my opinion: it will add troubles to troubles, making even more difficult for all people involved to test and develope the game in a proper manner. Moreover I don't think the game is broken at all: it is more "incomplete" and "unfinished" (we are in a pre-release status after all). Surely Pirates need a rework (they have a big-big potential still to be fully unlocked and can't continue to be "just another Nation with a cool flag"), but a Faction becoming "hegemonic" is totally another issue and probably should be addressed separately. We had many Nations reduced to one port in the past (have to admit not only by SORRY pirates), so probably we should create some specific mechanics to avoid that thing in the future. Give Devs some credit: they probably have a clear roadmap in mind and, in the meanwhile, let's try to not take advantage of flawed mechanics in order to keep the game playable for as many players is possible. The more players we manage to keep in the game, the better for the future of Naval Action will be, and the good of the game should always be our priority.

I dont doubt at all that the developers are hugely undermanned and completely swarmed by the endless amount of features, bugs, and balancing that is needed in this game.  I dont envy them at all.  The difference is i do believe the game is broken in many aspects, and the pirate mechanic is a major one in my opinion.  I give the developers huge amount of credit for what they have created so far!  It is a beautiful game.  Personally though i believe that the way it is being developed at the moment is wrong.

The great achievement of this game is the battle's themselves.  The simply fact that a cannon ball can boucne off two ships and hit a third is amazing, and blew me away when i first played NA.  I would of personally forgone any change to the battle's since release (eg. crew changes, land in battles, armor reworking) for more expansion of the open world mechanics  (pirate rework, diplomacy, exploration etc etc.)  for the simply fact that the open world itself is the area that is massively lacking in this game.  Instead of fine tuning the one thing in the game that blew us all away and kept bringing us back, the part of it that is lacking and is a MASSIVE part of the game itself is a much smarter way to approach development in my opinion.

I do suspect and i could be very wrong, the developers themselves are skilled much more towards developing the battles themselves than the open world.  Which is quiet understandable as everyone has their own set of unique skills and knowledge, but this is where hiring new people to help in area's that your dont have great knowledge on is the answer.  Again this is all assumptions....

  6. So am i wrong by assuming that when you show your kids to skate, you push them and watch the fall... Just for the fun of teaching the lesson of what it feels like to have a broken arm and a concussion ?

Am i being rude if i say this post is one of the most stupid idea a saw in my life ?

You explain the kid hey this is how you skate, then you send him to skate.  Do you lecture your child on how to skate for 4 months?  Showing diagrams, explaining each and every technique, after a month let them touch a skate, second month let them 'virtually skate'' then maybe the third month you allow them to skate in a arena that is covered in soft floors and walls...i can go on and on.

I think we have discussed more than enough on alternative pirate mechanics....its time to push the kids out to skate.

  7. The idiots that claim leadership over my nation is almost enough to make me hoist the black regardless of whether or not you think the game is broken. I'm not sure what OP is hoping to achieve by asking people to ditch their home waters, or why he thinks it would force the developers of the game to fix something that is still in development. If you truly want to change things OP, then contribute watertight suggestions that would raise the standard of gameplay, rather than asking everyone to bring the standard down.

There are a multitude of threads already on the forums, discussing reworking pirate mechanics.

Now this game is a open world sandbox, so due to that we are allowed to work how we like in this sandbox.  Now the devs have asked us to test the game, testing means trying to brake it.  If we are testers it is our duty to do so.  This is a test.

If we ignore the broken mechanics and don't try to brake the game, these issues will never get fixed.  This is about breaking the game to bring the standards up, not just discussing on the forums on how to raise the standards.  Actions speak louder than words.

I am surprised at the push back about this idea,  as if im trying to kill the game.  Last thing im trying to achieve,  I view it more like a bush fire. Burn it all down so that new life can grow.

  8. We don't tolerate people who misrepresent facts about us here.

    • Alliances/Politics and pirate rework was one of the issues on the development priorities thread.
    • It was voted as N1 priority by players
    • We are working on it

We always deliver what we promise. And we always focus on what players want (ships or features). Thats the opposite of stubborn

If you continue twisting the facts (a-la lying) - you won't be welcome here any longer.

So i must ask, what are the new pirate mechanics?  Is there a ETA on it?

  9. That is one idea that you and a handful of other players may think to be good, but for the handful that think its that easy theres also a hundred Pirates that will think they are getting screwed over. The issue with Pirates is that they touch a huge amount of the player base and is literally the hardest thing in this game to balance currently without earning a shit storm from one side of the player base or the other. So yeah i will rather discuss it in the forums, offer my suggestions hear out the problems other people see with my suggestions, witch will hopefully help the developers in the shaping of this game mechanic, instead of breaking the game to go on strike, getting a rushed temporary solutions that will impose more problems than it solves.

How will they get screwed over?  The map will get wiped. (including assets)  We will all get screwed.  Then the people who want to play as a 'pirate' will have mechanics that feel much more piratey.  The pirate players who want to conquer ports will jsut roll their character to a nation.

Ohh also any 'pirate' who wants the pirates to function as they do now,  are just the original egomaniacs who are want to be napoleons who just like the color black.  Plenty of try hard napoleons in every nation, they would fit in great :D

    Everyone is happy.

Waiting for over 4 months with every person who is not a pirate telling the devs...hey just a thought 'the way the pirate mechanics work at the moment, it will be the biggest nation with the most players, its inevitable' and it has been ignored for the this long while the issue grows and grows.  It is at a tipping point.

  10. As shocking as it may seem to you it indeed takes more than just snapping two fingers together to develop content. We were yelling for diplomacy and developers announce the major patch for it will come next month, not to mention us getting multiple mini patches along the way. Even if during that development period suddenly we decide that another part of the game needs more attention, that content will not magically appear. They have been working on port battles and diplomacy for the past month, the fact that we all go on strike trying to break the game with Pirate mechanics, does not mean that the month they spend will be reverted in time.

So yeah you are literally acting like a spoiled child, trying to ruin the game for the current player-base, and enforcing developers to rush half ass'ed content, lowering the games quality in the long run... gg.

Hopefully not all people share your views.

I dont believe so at all.  Why do you think the game is getting negative steam reviews now?  Why do you think the player base is dwindling?  This is a very broken mechanic that people have been telling the dev's for a over 4 months now, and it has yet to been addressed. While the issue gets worse and worse.  People get tired of bashing their heads against the pirate wall.  They leave the game, they go play something else.  The population diminishes.  Suddenly we are back to pre steam release pop over under 100 players.  Ohh but look your cannon balls bounce more often!

Im not being a child,  i want to hugely demonstrate a very broken mechanic in the game that is in ALPHA so that the mechanic is addressed and fixed.

  11. Hey Cid!

Honestly best of luck to all you guys, and im glad that you guys are getting content on your timezone for once :)

Hey where are all the first rates we made you guys? Nelson has some snuck away somewhere.  You know how much we love you guys and i just hope that the forthcoming battles will be a blast for us all.

In the end though Cid we miss you guys and want you to join us.  Let's paint it black!

  12. Hasn't there been several feature updates specifically made to target pirate exploits?  They've been pushing out a lot of content.  Creating and integrating a "non-nation" is going to be a lot of work.  The "smuggler" functionality they added is already starting to go a long way in that direction.  They know pirates are broken.  They're working on it.  They've said they're working on.  I don't get why there is suddenly so much distrust when they've been constantly asking for and giving feedback to the community.

Hey Killick, long time no talk :)

I dont believe fixing the pirates is a massive rework.  A simply but inelegant solution is wipe the map, give the pirates a handful of ports around the bahamas that they can never lose.  Enable pirates to be able to 'raid' ports using the same pb mechanics but they dont capture the port at the end.  They simply get a stack of gold, and maybe (idea) stop player production at said port got a aprox. amount of time eg. 1 week

    Bang fixed.

  13. Overhaul of War & Peace mechanics and national relations, pirate role and national alliances (748 votes [53.66%])

    I stand corrected :/

What has been stated about reworking the pirate role?  War and peace patch was meant to be launched this month.  It is no where in sight, and from my understanding the pirate mechanics were left out of of the initial idea's suggested for the patch.

Im looking for the thread discussing the diplomacy rework, but can't find it.  If someone could link it here it would be great :D

  14. And witch issues are not discussed by tens or even hundreds of players ? Crafting and Blueprints ? The general economy ? Port Battles ? Combat Mechanics ? From what i have seen on these forums the developers actually ask the community what their priority should be. A few months ago people deemed player production buildings to be the main goal, as did they deem Diplomacy/Port Battles/Pirate Mechanics as the main focus for now. And for a small company i would say they are delivering at quite a decent pace. So yeah instead of trying to abuse and break the game i would like to encourage people, not to rush the developers to bring out half ass, untested content by breaking the game.

Yeah but it goes to show, at different stages of the game we need different things.  When the player production was introduced no one even cared about it, and it was a flop.  We were all yelling for diplomacy!  This was due to so many issues all the nations were having and still are..but that hasnt even been implemented as of yet.  So when is the pirate issue going to be addressed?  In 3 months?  The way things are going i wouldnt be surprised if in 3 months the map is nearly all black anyway.  You will all be on here screaming for a fix.  So why cause a slow death?  Let's brake it swiftly, and get it over and done with so it can be addressed and fixed.  So in the long term less players leave the game.

'Total war is the most humane in the long run'  Clausewitz.

  15. I believe the community voted on what we wanted patched first. It is not really fair to blame the devs.

    http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/12471-development-priorities-2/

There was no pirate re-work offered in the vote.

This issue is something everyone has been talking about on the forum for months, and was pointed our very early on in development.  The dev's have made a great game.  Thats why we are all here!

The issue will be addressed with a much higher priority when the whole map is black.

  16. Meh, we talked about it since the wee months of early access, way before all this stuff with SORRY etc... The problem is, the devs are as stubborn as it gets. Chances are, doing this will only reinforce their resolve, delaying any sort of changes.

But, in the mean time... The game is broken. Play it broken or make it even more, that is the option we have.

The devs are stubborn we all know this, but we have to appeal to them as developers and instead of telling them of this bug let's show it to them clearly.  They keep saying its alpha, we have been encouraged to brake the game many a time, so let's seriously brake it.  If we dont it will be put on the back burner and we will be waiting for 6 months before they fix the pirates. While all other nations struggle to survive as the problem gets worse and worse.  National players keep the naval action world spinning.  It's their hard work and fruitless effort which is totally under appreciated that keep this game functioning.  We all love this game!  So let's brake it to make it better :D

P.S. to the awesome mod who moved it to national news, i was going to put it in here but was scared it would get locked in here.  I think its more appropriate to be in this sub forum.  Thanks!

  17. So your option on fixing it, is to totally abuse the broken part, crippling the game for the few people that actually try to enjoy and test it, potentially having them leave the game, and forcing the developers to rush content. I guess everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

We have discussed it for months, how many threads have their been about it?  It's still on the back burner...We get a damage re-modeling that doesnt even work...

Let's force the issue, yes lets cripple the game.  This is a test isnt it?  Let's test!

  18. This is a call to all clans from every nation!

EDR, RAE, SLRN, HRE, RUS, DAS, TF/TDA  and every clan in between you know who you are ;)

Forget your national flags, we can all go back when its fixed :D

The game is broken, we all know it.  So let's fix it!

  19. Just want to put in a little side note here.  Guys its a game, and in reality this has made the game more fun not only for our members but also for the other british clans as it creates more content for us all.  So relax and stop the bickering and lets all have fun!

Also as shown through post after post by a bunch of different people, we are respected by the British nation.  Simply due to the fact as most of the british nation knows, a lot of our clan worked their asses off to make the British nation what it is today.  Our captains have been involved in nearly every campaign the British nation undertook, we were involved in many port battles and helped hold together the British nation.  Ourselves and RGL were the main clans who formed the British council.  We all worked our asses off to help make Britain what it is today.

Now all of this has simply been a huge miscommunication and real blunder on all sides!  Again though step back everyone and realize this is just a game and this is more fun for everyone.  I've talked to a lot of the leaders of the British clans and explained the situation and we are on all good terms.  So stop the bickering and lets our cannons roar  (doubt they will penetrate though) :P

Ohh and the new AUSFC theme song which i recommend to ALL clans from every nation!

  20. To be honest the toxicity in brit nation chat just melted away since certain members of AUSEZ left which has mad it a much nicer place.

I had a long chat with Fasti the other night and tried to find out why the move into perspective and learned a couple of things.

The fall out with the British Council happened over a period of time and was a result of various things culaminating with the deal or proposed deal AUSEZ had with Sorry regards to bay of Mexico.

I won't go into detail as I may not know all the component parts but suffice to say the British council heard about this deal not from the AUSEZ themselves but via another player, AUSEZ were called to task about it and got hot under the collar because as they see it they were being ridiculed over it especially by the aforementioned player.

I dare say that if the AUSEZ leadership had come to the council and said to the council that we have this in the melting pot before the aforementioned player spilled the beans then everything might have been received a bit better but instead tempers flared this resulted in some very colourful language Un repeatable but I will leave that up to your imagination.

This was the straw that broke the camels back.

With reference to the AUSEZ claim about not getting enough pvp I am sorry that really just does not wash with me how long have we been fighting Spain in the Conttoy Muegres area and you only had to buy a flag in the Corrientes area and you would get all the pvp you ever wanted.

Need to catch up for a chat :)

  21. Can i just say props to the community for basically not being dicks, given me some hope about this community again after so much salt in the past.

Also props to the AUSEZ members in general, the respect shown by the community demonstrates all your hard work and fair play you have done since release.

well..they will see all the nations are the same with the politics...the black flag has it as well. Good Luck and have fun is really what anyone should be saying...

Haha i dont doubt that, but geez you try sitting in a British Council meeting...  I helped formed the dam thing and the thought of attending makes me shudder in fear.

  22. The french/spanish bought plenty of flags for Tantun Cuzimil, Tulm etc etc on the 10-12 timer that Australians defend.  We had decent sized battles at these ports.

20+ 2nd and 3rd rate ships on both sides for the battle of tulum, while the spanish sent 10+ 3rd rates for Xpu at the same time.

We jsut had more numbers :)
