For the 1890 campaign, this is what I use for my battleships:
2x twin 12-inch guns
3-inch guns in the barbettes
One funnel
Take away ALL horizontal armor.
So long as your battleship has half-decent speed, a simple turn away should completely annul any torpedo boats. They have to get alongside you to launch their torpedos, and your secondary guns have plenty of time to hit them, or at least damage them enough to fall behind.

Hello, we will investigate the issue and fix.
EDIT:
The mission should play out, after a longer than usual delay. But we will find and fix the potential problem.Hello,
Thanks for the reply. I tried waiting, and it works after about 7 minutes if I don't touch anything. I don't know why only this mission has this problem (so far).
Besides this and some AI issues, I'm enjoying the game a lot, thank you. Can't wait for the rest of it.

Hello everyone,
Does the Naval Academy mission 'pre-dreadnought conflict' crash for anyone else? The first time I tried it, it worked fine. But now the game gets stuck as soon as the loading screen appears and doesn't advance. Clicking crashes the game.
If I reinstall the game, will it help at all? I don't want to lose my progress though.
Update: I found and tried the 'repair' option from the launcher, but it made no difference.

I'd love some kind of co-op mode where each player would command a squadron and fight against a pair of AI squadrons.
Me and my brother would probably happily play that on 1x speed and spend 10 hours per match. 🙂

You're right, I was a fool.🙂
This has probably been recommended before, but one of the things that would solve a lot of these AI building problems is having a list of 'preset' ships representing real-life ship classes (Yamato-class, Queen Elizabeth-class, Town-class, etc) that players can then build upon if they wish, or simply use (or fight against) as-is.
(Just because I want to design my own ship doesn't mean I want to go through the trouble of designing my opponent's ship too.)
