Great idea. I participated in regatta like this IRL. That was 24h+ race on the lakes (with entering harbours to report arbiters) , on boats like these:
That was test of sailing and navigation skils, and of course rowing (if wind was to light ) ;P
As it was great fun IRL so the same should be in game. I support this idea !
Pls forgive language mistakes

"While Wellesley was ordered as a Black Prince-class ship of the line, plans meant for her construction were lost in December 1812 when USS Constitution captured HMS Java. She was therefore built to the lines of HMS Cornwallis, a Vengeur-classship of the line which had just been launched at Bombay " Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Wellesley_(1815)

Don't forget that progress in metalurgy brought lighter cannons that could shoot same balls.

Santisima still would carry the heaviest broadside. I know that broadside isn't everything, but it is good indicator of how powerfull ship is

IMO You should use one unit, it will help to avoid many mistakes. I propose to use pounds.

Well, I would rather not see her making it into the game. She would only serve to stretch the balance in favour of the late, later, latest ship, thereby making all earlier ships obsolete. Right now, we have the Santisima, if you introduce this, both the Victory and the Santisima would be considered uninteresting. Having more guns is only interesting as long as you have the most. Introduce this, and tomorrow comes the bigger behemoth and so on and so forth.

This ship is comparable to Ocean Class. Ocean class may be even better. This is not behemoth with 32 pounders on all decks.

Le Commerce de Marseille broadside is too heavy.
32 × 36pd + 34 × 24pd + 34 × 12pd + 18 × 8pd + 6 × 36pd = 2736pd
2736pd /2= 1368pd (36pd carronades included)

Caledonia is beautifull, i hope to see this ship in game, especially refit version

Second picture reminds me a Cacafuego from Master & Commander, but a little smaller ;P If there wasn't a signature under the picture i could say it seems to be polacca (polacre) - single piece masts, square rigged and hull type somtehing beetwen Xebec and frigate.
It would be great to see something like xebex/frigate El Gamo or classic xebec in game.
