Can you link to any online information about this ship? Google didn't work.

Was she built in 1820?

The mizzen skysail on the draught sort of suggests so. :D

yes she was launched in 1820.. i can upload the plans if you would like

I was looking more for just general information on her career.

Where did you read that she made 14 knots?

It must have been a hell of a blow, with that hullform.

Imagine all the cargo space!

Shouldn't the Cargo Space rather limited in such a heavily armed ship? I mean all these Cannons have to weight something and also take a lot of Space.

Indiamans are generally Shipf of the line with the Hull not pierced for all guns if you look at her she has enough freeboard to add another gundeck turning her into and 80gun ship like Bucantaure or Saint Paul.

and early one most Indiamans were converted into warships when needed HMS Glatton is one of theses who fought at the battle of Coppenhagen

indeed Mr Mirones the frames and planking of the East India Company "Regular ships" was identical in thickness and spacing to that of Royal Navy third rates

The redeeming factor as far as speed goes for an East Indiamen is that they may be boxy, but its a surprisingly long and narrow box.

With no need for broad decks to carry heavy guns, the larger Indiamen such as Farquharson have a length to beam ratio of just over 4-to-1, only the longest and finest beamed frigates even approach this and most are nearer 3.75-to-1.

add that one and it can fight this east indiaman(Swedish 60 gun ship) :D

60 gun Wasa Class / later Improved Gustav adolf Class by chapman.

no need to say that it will get run over by Fargu and fliped because of the large size difrence

Gustav Adolphs were smaller, but most of them carried 24s on the upper deck and 36s on the gun deck. And they were faster (10 3/4 close-hauled / 13 running free).

The Farquharson is the king the merchant ships, though.

She's a pretty ship, sleek and modern despite her size.  Great work in constructing her Ragnar!

My only fear is that this ship will be the one and only preferred merchant ship in the game.  With such a large hold, speed and cannons, why bother having a navy or escorts?

I mean, yes she was built in 1820, but just like my example about the USS Demologos, just because she's in the time period does not mean that she fits into the game.

im not sure that such a vessel would be the only choice of merchant ship "santi isnt the only choice of warship", and besides she was huge but her guns are only 18lb  and with only 250 to 300 crew a skilled officer in a connie or similar vessel could just stay on her stern take down her sails and board.

True, but I am trying to compare her to other merchant ships, not warships.

I mean, I like the ship, but I am just trying to figure out what her role would be in comparison to a standard East Indianman.

The Indianman would be smaller and slower, possibly with a bit heavier guns and better armor thickness, but because the Indianman is slower she is going to be chased down and attacked more often, which is obviously not something a merchant captain would really want.

The Farquharson on the other hand is larger, faster and still reasonably heavily armed.  She exceeds in all classes of what a merchant wants, speed and cargo space.  Therefore, the Farquharson would become more preferred by merchant captains than an Indianman.

Now, the one big thing that would balance her out in my opinion is the more loaded a ship is, the worse that ship preforms in all sailing conditions, speed, turn rate, etc. regardless in the open sea or in the battle instance (and if this feature is already in the game, then it needs to be buffed as I have not been able to notice it). Therefore, a loaded Farguharson sail significantly slower, making her more likely to fall prey by other warships.  Because she does not have the armor or the heavier weight firepower of an Indianman, she will not be nearly as effective.

she would have more armor than the standard indiaman sir! not less and yes the more cargo the slower it would go but then the same thing for other merchant ships should apply....whos to say that there wont be large (not larger) but faster armed merchant ships for us to sail... Merchant frigates like those deigned by Chapman.

She has the same frame and plank thickness and spacing as a British 3rd rate....Same armor as a Bellona.

easy answer would be to make them very very expensive to craft?????
