There Are Some Real Issues With This Game That Would Be Simple To Fix

Recommended Posts

The biggest issue is the free Cutter/Yacht. The ship is unlimited and free so the fastest way to progress is joining the lobby battles and waiting for the fire to be focused on someone else and then charging in and just yolo doing the most damage you can, even ramming etc is a non issue since your ship is free. Using larger ships can provide slightly increased xp and gold gain but the risk seems to be much higher then the reward. If at least some of the free ships could be motivated to behave more realistically and care about self-preservation that could change.

The easiest way to fix this would be to keep the ship unlimited but charge a fee for sinking. This fee could be subtracted from the battle earning and never to go negative so there would never be a situation where you do not have a readily available boat. Battle earnings could be increased to compensate so for the average player over time gold earnings will still be the same.

There also needs to be team modifiers to XP and GOLD based on overall team performance. There should be a shared XP and GOLD bonus for the winning team. As it is now the only objective seems to be to do as much personal damage as you can. Chasing and masting a ship by itself then graping the crew and then sinking the ship provides much more gain then participating in the main line battle. There could be a minimum threshold of damage needed to share this bonus to prevent people afk leeching.

The battle ring should probably also be made smaller and/or the wind should be slightly weaker near the edges to prevent someone running laps near the edge and wasting hours. Capturing boats should likely be enabled like in the OW in the lobby battles but instead of keeping the ship you just automatically get some portion of the gold worth.

First of all, the cutters are free because if you sink and have no gold. You have no way to sail anymore. Second of all, the cutters are bottom tier. Everyone will be moving on to bigger ships. Thirdly, Ramming gives no advantage whats howver. You usually damage yourself more than you damage the enemy.

On the XP and GOld I agree, having the same issue right now.

It seems the Cutter is better than some other starting ships. Seems like you can't really  progress unless you reach rank 3

The sinking penalty would only be applied your earned gold/xp when using a free ship and it would never be able to go negative. The ship would still be "free" but throwing them away to grind out xp would not.

Ramming other ships is very useful to allow other ships to catch up, to point them towards the wind, break up boarding etc... There is not much of a reason to use the other ships in open battles with the yacht and cutter the way they are.

The largest problem is the xp grind is to harsh and the gold gain is way to easy especially with free ships. This rewards yolo whippin ur free ship into the middle of ten enemies in the single battles if you at least gave 2x XP to people using real boats that would help some

As soon as you reach a snow/mercury doing PvE missions is faster as well as even less risk. If people want to continue pvping in cutters, let's them. We need more incentives for people in larger, expensive ships to come to small battles or even better to try to XP on eachother in open world, not reduce this incnetives for the very new.
