We need a currency! Post your suggestions

Recommended Posts

We had a conversation about the currency currently used in NA. It is simply called "Gold". We came to the conclusion, that this game is in need of a different currency name, cause it is getting confusing to actually have a resources with the same name. While it is not a good idea to have every nation its own currency, i want to suggest to call the global currency "Doubloon(s)".

Feel free to post your own suggestions. I will make a poll with all suggestions at the beginning of next year.

Cheers

Brog

gold is universal and was used in all nations of that time

naming currency by the name of coins from one nation might upset other nations.

Every nation in this period - bar later the French and the US, had kings!

Why not the universal Gold Crown? ;)

So could the resource be renamed "raw gold" or "gold ore"?

We could also change the currency gold to "gold piece(s)"

I doubt thats gonna be the case. Having gold as a resource and as a currency is kinda confusing. The other way would be, that every nation will get its own currency while the exchange ratio is 1:1 between all of them. I.e. a british player is placing a contract selling an item for 1.000 "pound sterling". For a spanish player the item will be shown for sale for 1.000 "doubloons". At least we can get rid of "gold" as a currency, like in WoW or Diablo.

Well, how about the using the 'Ducat'?

It was a gold or silver coin, which originated from Venice, which was accepted as an international accepted trade coin in europe.

All that would be needed is to re-name gold resources to "Gold Ore" and leave the currency as Gold. It is easy enough to differentiate between the two then.

The ducat was universally accepted- that would be a good choice. Doubloons would be my second vote.

But the name of the currency does have to change, it's a little confusing. Gold, gold ingot, gold coins, and Gold $$$$.

I liked my idea (no, really, I do like it) of varying the name of the monetary unit by location or trading partner, but all have the same value.

The only thing with "Gold" is that in conversation it often gets confusing to know if someone is talking currency gold or resource gold.
