Patch 9.0 - Goodbye neutral ports

What's important:

  • Glorious game breaking bugs have most likely been added
  • Port battles added (Capitals, Regional Capitals and Free Towns are uncapturable - see the list)
  • Admiralty orders added to events: as a foundation for the admiralty store and fame points (or admiralty points)
  • Honor kill requirements are temporarily disabled due to popular demand. They will come back stronger and improved taking into account your feedback.
  • Open map events foundations added: Sail around and sometimes you will find an even just for you. System is rudimentary and will act as a basis for future development of variability and epic battles on the OW.
  • Bots ship variety returned
  • Teleport now works only to Capitals
  • Pre-Port battle anti griefing mechanics introduced. You cannot attack vessels or groups that have BR 5x higher than yours. If you are attacking a group of ship stationed together their combined BR is taken into account. Frigate supposedly wont attack 5 santisimas sailing close to each other.

Tuning

  1. Map tech improved a bit
  2. Fleets no longer fire at their masters
  3. Repair crit (5 3 combination) now repairs all critical damage
  4. Speeds overhaul for all vessels
  5. Speeds for OW tuned to be more comfortable while still being realistic
  6. Battle circle of death radius increased 2X in events
  7. Battle cicrle of death reduction speed increased 3x
  8. Max crew for Jr Leutenant and alternatives was increased to allow sailing the HMS Ontario(Snow) 
  9. Group icons have changed
  10. Minor UI changes in Ports to allow for new features
  11. Ship BR adjusted across all vessels
  12. More traders with escorts have been added
  13. Kill XP bugs fixed (no more 2x XP for PVE and 1.5X for PVP)
  14. Repair crits cooldown have been reduced to 7.5 mins
  15. Bot behavior somewhat improved
  16. Large NPC Fleets are back
  17. Regular battles close after 5 mins now
  18. Port battle entry close after 20 mins (10 red timer time 10 reinforcement time)
  19. BR of reinforcements will not change the BR of battle and will not allow entry of additional enemies any more
  20. NPC military ships and convoys will attack each other more than before (more than never)

 

Other fixes were done and problems created.

Great news. Will test asap.

 

Dear developers, could you consider adding ammo to shops and Econ. I personally plan to be an ammo Merchant and would love to expand my trade through all Caribbean ports in near future. Please make ammo - consumable. (add Basic shot as Unlimited with slight stat reduction).

For the most part, this looks to be a great update! Very please you decided to take a step back from honour kills.

 

What's important:

  • Teleport now works only to Capitals

 

This though... Oh dear. Removing one tediously long time wasting mechanic and replacing it with another. Prepare for the onslaught of complaints, this was not a smart move for testing.

Can you set up passive 'transport to ship' option. Ex. ship is docked in one port and I am in another port on the other side of the map. My allies notify us of recent attack on port and gather all ships to counter attack. I simply select my closest stationed ship , click 'transport to ship' and spawn in my battle ready ship and start sailing. I have a feeling people won't be able to counter attack or defend ports because of huge distances and time it takes. What's the point of teleport to capital? No one will sit around capitals, all will stay close to enemy ports. Usa has the worst Capital spawn I think, hours of sailing to nearest action, that makes Capital spawn pointless.

They should have to set siege to a port for a certain amount of time before attacking it, that way it gives the opposing team a chance to gather and defend the port. Unless this is in already idk haven't tested port battles yet.

Awesome! This will be epic! Can't wait. I begged potbs team to create this years ago in their game with no luck. Thank you.

there was a time with no teleports

also teleports to outposts was added once to test trading. It is now back to its natural state. But maybe you are open to magic in the game?

Good one. Only time will tell how it will end up as we do not hold all details of development plan. I talked to my old society members, guess what was their first complain.... no one will travel for hours and it looks like a time consuming game. That's why we are here to address these damaging problems that will hold many players from this game. I myself only can play for 2 hours/day during work week and I don't want to sail for hours just to have 1 fight.

Good one. Only time will tell how it will end up. I talked to my old society members, guess what was their first complain.... no one will travel for hours and it looks like a time consuming game. That's why we are here to address these damaging problems that will hold many players from this game. I myself only can play for 2 hours during work week and I don't want to sail for hours just to have 1 fight. 

 

if the feature is somewhat unhistorical but very useful it could have its place in game. Teleports without the ship (sailed as a passenger) could be useful and historical.

On the other hand, attacker has to sail "huge distances" to attack an enemy port, meaning every attack will cost time and has a chance to be disrupted or prevented on the OS. Is it really fair that defender should be able to teleport instant reinforcements with zero risk?

In the past I have proposed a dual approach to transfers, both tied into the ecomomy:

1. Player or AI transfer of ships in real time by contract. Hire a captain to move your ship while you sleep or while you sail another ship.

2. Fast packet ship transfer of player characters. Book passage on a AI packet ship (or maybe even player ship) and move to another port with an appropriate delay (maybe not realtime transfer, but not instant either).

Both would generate targets on the OS and would provide money sinks and potential career options.

So, you simply let nation attack port? and wait for PB? I will say no more and will wait for more details.

 

Perhaps if there was an intelligence system relayed off AI ships of your nation or ports of enemy fleet movements heading in a specific direction, with a guess as to their target, this would make things easier?

Haven't had a chance to download the update yet, but these changes look fantastic. I would like to see the "teleport without your ship" instituted, as it would lend a strategic aspect to where you purchase outposts and position your ships, based on the current state of the map.

I would worry that with no teleport whatsoever, initial port battles are going to be small, and we're going to see too many flips (and no ability to test the larger engagements). But eager to try this out later on tonight.

So who defends neutral ports from capture? Neutrals only, or any other faction?

A friend of mine has lost all of his stuff in a neutral port, all assets have been erased.

 

An outpost stacked with resources and ships. Any specific reason why this has happened?

Need some form if teleport, be it paid with in game gold or shipless teleport only. I dont want NA to cater to casuals but you do need some of happy mid ground and as someone who has sailed from MT to Vieq, its a brutal trip, will hurt pvp big time if you need to spend 2 hours relocating to take part.

Least with shipless teleport you can store ships in outposts and get into the action fast, without getting the free pass of moving a ship via hyper drive, bypassing danger.

I say GW2 style, sail and find location first (ports) and then pay to teleport (price based on location distance). In the game where conquest present it must have teleports, spawn points etc..
