[WIP] San Fernando 62 guns 4th rate 3D model (completed 10/09/2015)

Recommended Posts

Since there aren't 4th rates yet I decided to model this beautiful spanish ship :D

Some of you might also know it from Potbs where it was a popular pvp ship.

Armament:

Gundeck : 26 x 18lb

Upperdeck : 24 x 12lb

Topdeck : 12 x 8lb

Just started working on this one but I thought I'd make a post and show the progress like I did with the panteleymon hehe.

Freddy, do you know when this ship that you have choosed, was built?

Because there are two ships with the same name but with differents years of construction, and they was built with differents construction system(sorry if isn't the correct word).

Good job anyway!!

hmm not sure actually, can't really find much info on the ship other than this spanish website and potbs wiki

http://www.todoababor.es/listado/navio-sanfernando2.htm

I check my model against pictures of the one made for potbs so I guess it's that one :D

This web is like the Biblie of the spanish navy information jeje

And this link is one of the two san Fernando vessel that I said it, the other one is this:

http://www.todoababor.es/listado/navio-sanfernando3.htm

This ships was built with the Jorge Juan's system or "british system" and she must had a different visual form, more like a tipical SOL

It's a great job. Very well done.

I just have one comment on a historical fact.

In France, but I think it's the same in other countries, the vessels with two deck have no gunports on the 2nd deck. Only the first deck.

Furthermore, if there be the gunports, it could not be any under the chainwales for two reasons, the first is that we can not completely open the gunport, and the second the gunports are collides with the chain of the shrouds. So this is not possible.

What does the historical truth for boats not French?

yeah I wasn't sure about it either but I was looking at the pavel here http://forum.game-labs.net/index.php?/topic/6271-second-rate-pavel-in-game-screenies/

and it has gunports on every deck. On the drawings of the san fernando it shows closed gunports all the way to the top.

it looks a bit weird indeed with the gunport not completely opened. What do you guys think I should do with it?

I think that the spanish ships had all gunports, but I can't confirmed yet.

My personal opinion is Yes please I wantit with all gunports

British ships had the chains and chainplates specifically positioned to allow gunport lids...

But I think Surcouf is right, because you see the chainplates are positioned very low on the San Fernando, some of the lids can only be opened halfway. Looking at other plans, often on Spanish ships the chains are partially across gunport as they are on French ships, so probably Spanish practice was not to have gunports on the upper deck.

You could keep the aft 4 gunports but delete the port lids under the chainplates and in the open waist of the ship? Bellona has this arrangement, looks very good.
