One hell of a trade ship, eh She's got cannon stuffed in any available space on her deck, and appears to have a pretty nice hold. If she's a thing, she will be popular- something that can counter the Privateer whilst having the hold and rig to trade all over the place. I would gladly use this ship for any trade endeavors I embark on xD

Well, I think the Lynx and Privateers are Baltimore clippers- perhaps a merchant version of these might pop up. I would assume a merchant vessel version of a Baltimore clipper would be a bit larger to balance out against the Lynx at least.

I think vessels like HM Bark Endeavour; HMS Bounty; Vancouver's Discovery and Cook's Resolution  should definitely be included, as some of the most effective merchant vessels; with high cargo capacity, but without sacrificing armament.

Here are some East Indiamen. These could be the ultimate merchant vessels in the game, as some can carry a lot of cargo and are armed on par with some men of war.

Post any armed or unarmed small-medium size ship plans that can be used to transport goods.

I guess there's no need to post here trade ship plans that have already been mentioned and collected in the thread "List of ships and plans presented so far". Right ?

The Bonhomme Richard is a former ship of the East India Company, calling it le Duc de Duras:

The A.N.C.R.E. editions are the best modern historical and thechnique source French, and that Gérard Delacroix editions.

The Meermin was one of the many VOC hoeker type cargo ships.  It was laid down it 1759 and was built out of oak.  Its rounded stern, while more resistant to warping and springing than square sterns, would also add variety.

You might already be aware of this, but the ship is the Meermin and not the Mutiny.  You might have interpreted it that way because the fist two words of the video's title Slaveship Mutiny - Meermin Turntable, suggests that; however, it is referring to a mutiny aboard the ship and not the ship itself.

Edit: Issue has been corrected.

Its quite interesting how Spanish, English and French ships evolve to deep hull designs approaching a V shaped hull, while Nord sea ships follow the counter tendency, making bottoms more and more flat.

Those nothern seas around the Channel and Baltic sea have many shallow waters areas and lots of channels, while European atlantic shores are mostly formed by cliffs, stepped sea floors and deep waters.

Ships design is like Nature, in the same sence than animals which addapt to their environment.

Spanish Merchant Frigate

Frigate belonging to the Real Compañía Guipuzcoana de Caracas. Merchant frigates from Gipuzkoa were the key to the success of this trading company. They consolidated the transatlantic transport and economy of the province at a time when pirates, privateers or enemy fleets were the scourge of transoceanic trade. The swift Gipuzkoan frigates proved their worth against enemies and rivals.
