No HUD whenever in battle

I only recently got this game and have been having issues in battles. I can load campaigns, build ships and play campaigns (not combat) but I cannot load into any levels properly, I have tried to validate my game files, restart my laptop, go onto different game versions (currently on newest beta version) and tried various different in game settings but it never gives me any sort of HUD whatsoever, I know my laptop is able to run the game because it is extremely quick to load and design a plethora of things. I can still technically play through things like academy and custom missions because I can still control the camera, to an extent my ship (target and the direction of ship) but I cannot do anything else, and I would like to know how to fix this.
