Look at all those beautiful 3rd and 4th rate SoLs.  I want, I want.

While certainly a beautiful ship, I think almost anything from the 1600's will appear anachronistic among later ships and would be outclassed (if modeled correctly rather than 'balanced' for game purposes) because of technological advances from 1600's to early 1800's.  That is the polite way of saying the World of Tanks factor...

I would rather see a tighter time period explored and represented in-game, at least in the beginning when dev resources are strained.

I hope really we dont see ships mixed from 1630 and 1830. Its a difference between redesigning a ship from 1720 to something for a 1780 service. That can happen. But those 200 years difference in also appearance not only technological development, please not. There exist hundreds images (thousands) or plans of ships of 18ct. And now again folks arguing, 'i like greek bireme, please put it into game', and the next 'oh Hansekogge are also great' 'and Columbus Santa Maria'... and so on and so on. Its not important if a game has viking ships against ironclads or galleons against napoleonic ships, both is wrong.

I like all naval vessels and periods, but i dont like arbitrary curious mixtures only made by in that case 'taste'. Make then a pure fantasy game, tats more honest.

To a degree.  There are a whole crap load of very good looking ships from the late 1600s, say in the 1670 range that fit in just fine with more modern designs.  Also just because a design came out originally in say 1630 doesn't mean that people weren't taking older, very functional and proven designs and building ships to that spec even 100 years later.   Take the basic, generic brig for example.  They were in use all throughout the 1600s all the way through at least 1883 when the Telos entred the USN merchant marine.  That is almost 300 years of usage out of one ship design.

or the french tonnant class wich still got build in a modifyed version by the british around 1820-1830 (HMS Ganges)

and the modern napoleonic ships will ahve a problem in the baltic where the "to old designs" would seal club them while they beach themself on every sandbank.

But the Wasa 1628 was not a brig and it was in itself a misdesign. I wrote in another thread even the Victory was in its active service life modernised, also in design, so in 1800 the ship looks really different than some decades before. It would be totally anachronistic to see a 1628 Wasa design in combination with a late 18ct design. Has nothing to do when the ship was first build.

Oh on this we agree. I don't think the Wasa 1628 is a good ship to add to the game mostly because it was a failed design, but I was primarily just replying to how your post was worded.  It came off like we shouldn't be adding any ships from the 1600s to the game because most of the ships we do currently have in the game are late 1700s early 1800s designs.   I also agree there are some ships from the 1600s, especially the early 1600s that don't really fit aesthetically and because of that really don't fit into what I would like to call, the "look and feel" of the game however, there are a ton of designs form the 1600s, especially the late 1600s that still retain the character of those older ships while having more modern lines that fit right in with ships like the Bellona, Surprise, Victory, etc and I really want to see and sail those ships.  Honestly, I would rather sail a beautiful ship with lots of character that is just decent than an ugly ship that is great, but that is just me.

Honestly though if any ship kind of stands out, it is the Constitution since in my opinion it looks too modern for the game.   Perhaps the cut off should be 1670 -1799, not 1630-1830 but I am sure there are alot of American fans that would disagree.

But clear, i like the appearance of the Wasa, it looks great, absolutely, perhaps if there will be different servers (later) there will be period servers, ......perhaps....... But first devs should make +/- 30 years 18ct navy and then also the other beautiful ships, but different 'world'.....

Or we have soon a pirates of the burning sea again, that game still exist... i think.

Sailing ships don't actually risk their stability by turning fast, as they're not motorcycles. Funny how this idea spread around.

Tell that to the Kronan, unlike many other nations. Sweden loved their shallow draft warships, hence they have a rather troubling history anytime you start looking at a swedish ship with more then 2 decks.

On that note, I'd love to see the world famous Vasa in game, even if she was only a parade ship.

Capsizing has nothing to do with a fast turn, though. Ships capsize because of high winds and seas.

If you are sailing along with the wind abeam, and are struck by a violent squall, turning downwind as fast as possible is the best thing you can do. A massive wooden warship with a rudder can't turn fast enough to actually create that much centrifugal force.

If Kronan capsized during a rapid turn, it was likely because she turned upwind, causing an increased in the wind force acting on her sails, and from an angle more likely to knock her down.

It's just Wikipedia editors who assume that a sailing ship fatality has the same causes as motorcycle accident.

Well when you put it that way, yes your right. I thought you where under the assumption that that even if your going at full sail, and cut into the wind nothing would happen. But yes, you dont just roll a ship over because you turned to hard (unless you do it improperly "see the kronan").

It's usually a combination of action of the wind upon the ship, the turn, and the seas. A poorly timed turn in bad weather, carrying too much sail, when a large wave hits you can cause the ship to founder.

They also dident bother to close the bottem gun ports during the turn apparently.

While this is confirmed by the museum to be a consistent rumour, they found no evidence on the wreck of any open gun ports. In fact, the evidence points they found at the wreck to the other direction. The theory put forward by the museum is that it may have been a rumour invented after she sank, to keep the king happy: if she sank due to open gun ports, the captain was to blame (he drowned, so no problem there), if however the Wasa sank while the gun ports were closed, the blame came dangerously close to pointing at the king's own decisions.

In the official hearing that was conducted in the months after the sinking (at which the King and two other high ranking officials were conveniently missing because they were of too high a status) the committee came to the conclusion that the vessel sank because of flawed design. The minutes from those meeting make it clear that there was absolutely no doubt within this committee.

I've visited the Wasa museum in real life, and despite the fatal errors in her design, she is quite a beautiful ship. By the way, she is a constant source of infomation about how ships were built during those ages.

Anyway, this ship is outdated if the time period were NA takes place is kept as it is.

Regards and thanks for the plans and information.

I wonder how many people would pay for it if added to the game. I do not think many games have this ship and it makes it a good money making item.

I can honestly say if this was a premium ship i would buy it even if it cost 50 dollars

I totally agree. This ship is a real beuty. And I don't see the problem why it's "out of the time era", since older ships could serve for a pretty long time. And maybe it was a flaw, but it wasn't really the design, it was mainly because she had too many and heavy cannons for her weight.

And when you think about how many ship-of-the-line who are still intact today, I'd say this ship certainly deserves a spot in Naval Action. Belive me, many would buy this game only for that ship...(even I)

Maybe 10 people max, I can't inmagine this ship being in game, please can we not make it a thing, please.

I don't see why it can't be entered as a premium ship at some point? True she had a flawed design, which might be fixed in game by changing her armement. She is a beauty looking at her decorations. I for one, and most likely a lot other people who have visited the museum, would be very inclined to buy it.
