Poyraz
It looks like NA has been improved much from the last time I visited it, and if there is any plans of getting Ottoman Empire in the game here is a list of turkish ships during the age of sail time period. (Sorry for delay Ink) Mahmudiye, the 128 gun ship of the line, has a place in turkish naval history likewise the HMS Victory in british history; however it misses the time span of Naval Action with 8 years. Poyraz
Great! Thanks for posting. No problem, but I should warn you beforehands. Ottomans, like the other middle east cultures, had been extremely into fancyness and effulgence. So, their ships might be trouble to model

Peleng-i Bahri translated as King of the Seas Well, according to the the info from the modeler, the ship has first been built in 1777 in Sinop shipyard (Ottoman city at black sea) as a third rate and attended to the Tendra battles at Kerch Strait and after serving 13 years it was captured by Russian navy at 1790. She was renamed to "Ioann Predtecha" and the plans were drawn by russian ship builders at 1796, which are the plans used to model the ship. So, that is why there are russian names around. Değerli arkadaşım neden Rusça sorusuna cevap Peleng-i Bahri 1777 yılında Sinop Tersanesinde yapılmış 3. sınıf Osmanlı Kalyonlarındandır Kerçh Boğazı ve Tendra savaşlarına katılmış 13 yıl Osmanlı donanmasına hizmet ettikten sonra 1790 yılında Hüseyin paşa komutasında Tendra savaşında Rus donanması tarafından ele geçirilerek 1800 yılına kadar Ioann Predtecha adı altında Rus donanmasında kullanılmıştır bu yüzden Rus Gemi mühendisleri ve mimarları tarafından 1796 yılında çizilmiştir bendeki plan bu plandır yani orjinaldir ve rus arşivlerinin tozlu raflarından çıkarılmıştır baş figürüne gelince siz eğer bu figürü oldukça ürkütücü bulduysanız sorunuzun cevabınıda bulmuş sayılırsınız çünkü bu figürler düşmanı korkutmak için kullanılan mitolojik figürlerdir ayrıca Kalyonlarla ilgilenen tüm arkadaşlara şu müjdeyide vermek isterim önümüzdeki yıllar içerisinde planı olmadığı sanılan Mahmudiye Selimiye gibi kalyonların planlarınıda ortaya çıkarmak Türk modelciliği adına benim için zevk olacak çünkü bu kalyonların planlarıda şu an elimde mevcut olup incelemeleri ve üzeride çalışmalarımız devam etmektedir selamlar

Look for Rodoss frigate on turkey forums. It was captured too and its really possible, that her plans is somewhere in Turkey too. Just have read that plans of Rodoss taking some interest one time by modelers. It was privateer from some Italia or greek if i remember correct, that was captured and later appears in ottoman fleet

SchurkjeBoefje
Mahmudiye seems kinda meh. Launched very late and only took part in one battle. I'm sure the Turks had much more interesting ships to go around instead of a floating penislenghtener like Mahmudiye. Everyone's always so obsessed with the biggest ships... weirdguy
My guess that it is more likely you will see a Xebec type of ship instead of anything else. The link provide showed quite a lot of pictures of a guy making a model ship, but no blueprint engineering type drawings. A 3D artist needs to have the side view, the front and rear view that show the ribs of the ship, and then a side view showing the masts and yardarms. Only then do additional reference pictures mater. Without the line drawings nothing can be done.

Hethwill
I for one applaud the inclusion of these. Given the amount of face offs between the Portuguese Royal Navy and the Ottoman collection of states under their empire this is worth all the effort. Obviously cape Matapan being a early 18th century mash up and biggest naval battle by then But most of the action too place on the horn of africa bend and arabic peninsula south coast. Reki
I had try into portuguesse fleet plans research but wasn't success. Some of their ships gone in Brazil. There is some museum models also on photos, and it means somewhere is plans, but i can't speak portuguese at all, so its nearly impossible to get plans, if they is somewhere on forums or portuguesse specific sites, unless you know this language

The prices for research of archives, time spent and copying of the information still apply though. Restriction across all the EU is the same - no more than 50% of the records can be reproduced in any form. As for a tip, accessing national archives for ship plans has its benefits. One of them being, you have the measures on the plans, so you know the entire proportions. Most of the plans across the internet, alas, do not have any measures. Poyraz
Mahmudiye seems kinda meh. Launched very late and only took part in one battle. I'm sure the Turks had much more interesting ships to go around instead of a floating penislenghtener like Mahmudiye. Everyone's always so obsessed with the biggest ships... This is probably true. However, if you look to the history of first rate ships, they were mostly built for their effulgence and as a showoff of the power of the nation. They were too expensive to be built as well as to keep in service. Cost/performance wise they suffer alot. Considering all those facts, I quess most admirals would prefer two second rates instead of having one expensive first rate. On the other side of the coin, they were symbols of the power and morale of the nation. For example, here are some urban legends about first rate ship Mahmudiye: The ship Mahmudiye was believed to be incantatory. During the siege of Sevastapol (Russian harbour city) Mahmudiye was anchored at Golden Horn in Istanbul. It was told that one night the ship escaped from the chains and ropes and began to sail to Black Sea in directon to Sevastapol by herself. It has been also told that during that battle, the ship has fired both her broadsides to the enemy without even maneveuring. The ship has been also believed to be not hit even by a single cannon ball in the battle of Sevastapol. And the more mystical one says, that some nights there were imperceptible imams/saints praying on the deck of Mahmudiye. Having all those myths, there have been lithograph pictures in the villages of Ottoman Empire where people never seen the sea before. Those explains why first rates were so important for the morale of their nation.
Sella
Peleng-i Bahri 1777(detailed plans): https://www.dropbox.com/s/vtmhoibf55srxff/Peleng-I%20Bahri%201777.jpg?dl=0 http://threedecks.org/index.php?display_type=show_ship&id=21433 I have my doubts on the other two since the writing is mostly in French and the lines seem familiar but there are some arabic as well. https://www.dropbox.com/s/uv7fhgoqbeegvqj/36%20gun%20ottoman-french%20frigate.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/wqoeu12xgeoz4ba/42%20gun%20ottoman-french%20frigate.jpg?dl=
Malachi
The last plan is very interesting, most probably it´s JMB Coulomb´s Melpomène, launched at Toulon in 1789. The plan is signed Sainte-Catherine (also known as Jaques LeBrune), one of two brothers working under Coulomb. The father, a noble naval officer, was executed after the royalist defense of Toulon failed and his two sons fled and continued designing ships for the Sultan in Istanbul. They probably took the plan with them. Melpomène was a superb frigate, fast and weatherly, especially in moderate conditions (10 knots close-hauled and 13 before the wind), very responsive in tacking and wore well. Haratik
I linked a pdf on two other threads and I'll link it here as well. The article sheds light on why Ottoman ships had such short terms of service and also covers how they were built: http://www.reenactor.ru/ARH/PDF/Yener.pdf Edited March 22, 2016 by Hairy Fishnuts
