Grim DeGrim
In reading "the Age of the Ship of the Line: The British & French Navies, 1650-1815", I noticed a passage by author Jonathan R. Dull that references "prames": "... Choiseul now prepared a vast plan for invading Britain. He planned to construct between 225 - 275 shallow draft transport to carry troops, and a dozen shallow draft 22-cannon warships called prames to Escort them..." (in reference to year 1757) I know we have the brig (similar?). Any thoughts? I have a wiki leak is all, curious if others have come data on these? http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pram_%28ship%

Terminus
the Swedish designed many of their boats in the 17th century in this manner, you might find some more reading on flat bottems there, They liked them because it made it easier to navigate within the Baltic Sea, and many of her small islands aswell as allowing them to be used in a supporting role in battles around the coastline. Tho, they proved very unstable in rough weather.
