Indiaman vs Space Supply Vehicle

Recommended Posts

I read the news today (oh boy) that a space station supply rocket was sending 8,200 pounds of supplies up to the International Space Station. That is more than twice the amount of supplies that the Naval Action Indiaman can carry....amazing.

Pretty sure it's neither and just an arbitrary number. I can't say for sure because the only bits of info I found on carrying capacity of Indiamen were tonnes burthen, which is a volumetric measurement, not a mass based one. But even for tons deadweight (the actuall carrying capacity in tonnes) 4000 seems a bit extreme to me 🤷‍♂️

Edit: Wikipedia lists the Götheborg's DWT at 166 tons deadweight.

So assuming some were bigger probably still not to 4k...

this

is it important to care about some certain unit when it's only supposed to carry "a lot" ???

Um... not to be pedantic, but I think you mistook imperial tons for lbs on the Indiaman?  ;)

Yep, you're exactly right. I need to brush up on my reading comprehension. If anyone would like more disinformation, feel free to contact me. : )
