  1. 1. Pick one of the options.

    • Open world Sandbox (think EVE Online but on the Oceans)
      23
    • Ladder style balanced match play (think world of warships)
      2
    • Other: Describe your wish for this game.

I really want this to be the Kerbal Space Program of naval warfrare. Now before you pick me or mine apart, bear with me. A thread has popped up on here once comparing Dreadnaught to a PS2-era naval combat game with it's ship-builder similarities and Dreadnaught came off as having a tad bit been more limited due to part placement constraints.

That's not to say Dreadnaught gives you a lot of freedom, it does. It's just that as far as placement and overall design-work a player is allowed, possible designs more or less funnels into certain types of warships over time instead of allowing for maximum experimentation.

I just have my doubts that it will ever get to that point however. It appears Dreadnaught is more or less trying to stay within the confines of potential historical designs instead of allowing for some truly crazy things much in the same way KSP does.

And if there's any doubt as to the possible want for this kind of freedom, I wouldn't be so keen on dismissing the absolute hysterics of meme-ships and the sort going about right now.

Players are likely to abuse the powers of creation for their own entertainment to the point of absolute mental degeneracy and doctrinal irresponsibility. All because it's fun.

I hope we get that. Somehow.

If we just got a flush (though probably still raised) mid-deck for the pre-dread era (maybe as an alternative tech to research), I think that could really open design space

edit: out of curiosity, can we build a Lord Nelson class currently?  Not at my gaming PC, but I don't know if we can pull that off right now

You mean this one? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lord_Nelson-class_battleship
It will be available in next update. Currently only enemies can use it.

Yep, that's the one (Nice!). I was just thinking that even within the pre-dreadnought classes there were some open deck options that give that era of ships more a lot more variety than many would think.  Thank you for all you do.  Very excited to watch and play more of this game as I've never encountered a truly well done game in the age of Dreadnoughts.  Big fan, admire the work done by game-labs so far!

I want to be able to recreate the Russo Japanese war and have ironclad predreadnoughts duke it out in a hail of gunfire and smoke where two of the three biggest engagements of battleships to ever battle battleships would happen. I want to play as Spain and hold onto my colonial possessions during the Spanish American war, I'd like to defeat the Japanese fleets at sea during the Sino Japanese war, I'd like to fight in the Aegean sea in the Greco-Turkish War in any sort of manner but that's out of the question, so in that case, I'd like the wrestle control of the Mediterranean out of the British and Italian hands as the Austria-Hungry. And heck, I even want to fight Russian, as Russian and battle ships I Designed and built in the previous decade that have fallen into the hands of the Bolshevik scum!

There seems to be a huge, massive interest here in the technology and tactics of WWII, which is cool because that's fascinating. Lord know's I had family serve in both world wars and I'm also incredibly obsessed with them outside of this game and forum but the second world war era is the final fifth of the campaign, maybe final two fifths if we want to split hairs.. about aircraft carrier tech but what about the preceding decades? It's just carriers and world war 2 tech ad nauseum..  I'm really interested in the 1890s through 1910s, is there anybody else?

+1

I grew up near USS Olympia and played a miniatures battle of Manila Bay onboard! A beautiful pre-dread (well ok a protected cruiser). So the USS New Jersey is across the river representing the ultimate in BB tech well past the end of the age of the dreadnought, but WWII has game options out there from arcade to sim, centering the timeline around WWI and before not so much.

Ahh ok, with only 3 devs thats probs gonna be the thing doe.

Which im fine with as well, never knew the team was that small makes me appreciate everything they do considerably more.

hello first sorry for my bad english

for  the campagne, my idee

a turn per turn base like in the game atlantic fleet or pacific fleet , a system with exagonal  case wich represente nearly 120 to 150 nautiques miles large or less, to obtain a half or a quart day of navigation by ships (for better strategique game,  not too large case )

or like in Total War system but with case like in wargame, each camp play in a turn, at the end of this turn, battle can start if enemy boat or fleet are in same cases

with avantage or not depend of time weather, sub marine or plane as spy in front of fleet…. etc  … batlle near coast could be a good idee too ! with costal battery to remake battle of Dardanelles for exemple !

I want it to be what's it advertised to be. Essentially: Rule the Waves with 3D models, designer, and battles. A game that replicates the complexities and compromises needed to run a fleet in the era of the big gun battleship. A game that requires the player to make compromises in the designs themselves,  the compromises demanded in managing and building an effective fleet on a limited budget, the compromises demanded in keeping the political class happy and the nation strong (perceived as such, or actually strong) without bankrupting it. etc.

That's what this game has been advertised to be. That's what I want it to be :).

I honestly have no idea why this thread even exists, the ppl that created it sure never read the available blogs the developers put out and also never played the actual game.

What this will be is a game very much like Rule the Waves but taken a step further with a 3D engine. Also we get the chance to correct all the little things which would have made RtW a better game. Like a overhaul for the (relatively) frustrating battle generator mechanics where you have very little control of what ships showup together etc which makes specialized craft almost impossible (special for escort designed ships vs raider for example).

Also completly new features that were abstracted in RtW can be implemented now (especcially in battle)

There wont be an MMO/linear campaign i dont know how you ppl excpect this to go.... this game was pretty detailed on how it should look from the blogs put out by the devs.

If you dont want a game like that DONT BUY INTO THE ALPHA and ask for the fundamentals to be changed thats not what a alpha is there for.
