Make Wind boosts always appear on open world map

Recommended Posts

Because the ones who dont know get upset over the ones who do know. Also maybe remove wind zones from any where near capitol areas. my 2 cents.

No.

The discovery mode is better, as you sail. It gives trade winds that temporary character what is typical for winds. And the purpose of all this was to make active sailing more interesting over afk-sailing. With constantly visible steady wind zones you are back at afk-sailing.

From another thread " Seems that these wind boost icons generate in the same locations, for all players.  While this is arcadey, we can use it to our advantage and hopefully some of the third party maps will plot all of them for ease of use, and planning.  Or perhaps the Devs will include them all on the ingame map.  I doubt that the Devs would consider using dynamic positions that are unique to each player.  (like ship wrecks)."

what is that author talking about.. Wind is wind. its wind for everyone.. Why it should be different for all players?

It seems realistic that the wind should be the same for everyone.  But the wind zones are not totally like wind.  They are a feature.    They are shown on the map.  Can sailors look at a map and see wind?  Does wind come with a labeled strength and time.  Wind strength and duration could be unknown to the players.   These wind icons are not winds: they are landmarks that can be used for more than increasing speed.

If each icon is located in the same location for all players it can be used as an ambush point, or as a gank rally point.  That's okay.  It allows for simple tactics and communication.  PvP is easier with static wind icons.  Some would say this simplicity is good.

My point was that if the icons were in different locations for each player, and randomly placed, they could not be used for ambushing or navigation.  For some this would create more interesting gameplay.

Edit:. Thanks for not creating zones.  The greatest advantage of static wind icons is that traders can plot their routes to avoid them.

You cannot use the wind boost if you are AFK because they require your mouse to click it.

The wind boost positions appear to be static and as predictable as a coastline. It would be better I think to have these boosts drift around the map without details of %boost or duration. I have no objection to marking these boosts in OW but no need to see them on the map.

again ... 😴

it is different because what you call wind just isn't, it is actually just a speed multiplier obtained by collecting a pickup you placed on the map. you could as well call it turbo charged ships in the age of sail and it would make the same sense, it has nothing to do with sailing in the wind no matter how many yachting classes you took. 🤪
