Since i'm a new player i have to be honest: i'm more bored to dont find in OW npc traders with a good cargo, or more npc warship to hunt, or to be ganked near my capital or other national ports...

Thats why veteran clans like Ancre, Bastard, Trap ...Like to create content for new players to show them how cool the game can be, and share to them the same experience that we had when we started the game .

To Admin,

and pls change also the following:

  •  Strengthen the trade system, stop the 100 tons rule
  •  Give more protection to the central zones of the nations, allow more defence abilities (longer time for interception, raise the BR-level for the defence side
  •  change battle rating system (all is said about that)
  •  finally give some limitations to the incredible damaging alt-system

Greetings to all

Ferdinand de LaSalle

Regarding Player Raid:

Reward (Raidchest) vs Time + Risk is heavily imbalanced on the time + risk side.

Even with only small risk involved it was hard to motivated players to participate in this activity due to a lack of reward.

Reward is based on the target port. This feature can provide immediate riches in some locations and rags in most other.

Method 1
Just like a privateer of the 17th century to find a profitable raid you need some investigative work. Discover which nation bases provide most profitable raid mission. Go to that location and rob those who is raiding today. Ship carrying a chest is clearly identified (its usually an indiaman and it has a flag if you click on it)

Method 2
Just like a privateer of the 17th century establish a base near richest town. Those towns will often be a target for a raid. If you have a base near - often you will be given a raid mission on the rich port in the vicinity.

This feature is advanced and is not a delivery mission. So you should not expect to make anything of it without preparation. But if you prepare you will make a lot either from enemy chests stolen by you or by missions from your raiding base.

Is not better to actually fix content or balance the existing ships than adding new content?

Yes yes yes ! Cause new ships are here for older players, if some things are not fixed they may come, play 1-2 days with new ships then leave the game again, and if you fix some exploit, port battle BR, or anything you wonna fix, they may stay much longer.
Also easier to entreating new players in small nations with smaller port battle BR .

In my opinion I see a mismatch here. When raids are small grp content (up to 6 people) why is linked to national activity (conquering a port close by).

At 11 p.m. on this day in 1778, Commander John Paul Jones leads a small detachment of two boats from his ship, the USS Ranger, to raid the shallow port at Whitehaven, England, where, by his own account, 400 British merchant ships are anchored. Jones was hoping to reach the port at midnight, when ebb tide would leave the shops at their most vulnerable.

John Paul Jones crossed the northern atlantic without a base close to Whitehaven.

Furthermore all the

... preparation ...

is nullified by the RNG of the mission spawn.

Finally when Raids should be national effort - dividing a raidchest through 25 people still doesnt justify the effort that is put into it. My opinion

How I would like it to be

  • small grp content
  • less boundaries regarding target choice (Raidchest timer could be linked to distance raided port + mission pulled)
  • Stricter player fleet composition (not all player ships should be 1st rates) - therefore scale the reward by higher difficulty + port revenue

BTW - is there anyone who managed to intercept raiders on their way home and steal their raid chest?

Amity commandeered by Tew did not go to Iceland, she went to Madagascar, and scored riches - because richest non-christian port was in India and they patrolled that route. Kidd followed the same route and failed. Result was not guaranteed.

Player raids are generated for richest ports in their region. If your region is poor time to change the region. Chests give % of port investment and tax and thus if the port investment and tax are not worth it, not worth it to do the raid for that port. Find the bases in the richest regions, capture them or find nearby freetowns like tumbado to wait for raid for vera cruz and privateer on that day.

Which raids do you see in Corrientes most often? If you do not get rich yucatan ports from there - time to capture a port on Yucatan.

Shame is that changing nation is the way of low resistance here :(

Thx for the detailed explanation and history references :)

Sorry for diffusion, but that's not about ports raiding, but about commerce raiding actually. Though the point is clear

You do not have to change nation.
Cap something closer to richest ports. Richest ports are known.

Or find the method to find out enemy raid misisons and steal their chests operating from pirate havens/free towns.

when you operate to steal riches from other raiders - you ARE COMMERCE RAIDING.

Actually still not. Commerce raiding is when you hunt traders along trade route shipping valuable of useful cargo here and there. So when you operate near Bermudas or Kidds to catch traders with missiona or cargo - that's commerce raiding.

In case of stealing riches from raiding there is no commerce, just loot carrying - but you can catch them during your commerce raiding

P.S. Actually my comment was to port raids results, not to intercepting raiders
P.P.S. BTW - it would be nice to hear where to obtain key for opening captured chests?

@admin when there is a raid, shouldnt it technically be more about the player vs port engagement and not player vs ships?

As I find raids how it is right now it feels like you're sailing a national fleet on a mission to intercept a Treasure fleet that has just undocked from their current port carrying valuable to another destination
