Do Nations Even Matter?

Recommended Posts

Sure, why do we even need nations.. at all, right? And yeah, I'm currently playing on the PVE server, but that doesn't mean I don't also play on the PVP server. I do. And I want to see the PVP server actually work and prosper.

Seems like few players actually want a proper game, not just a battleground. The old days of instance battles are over, this is an MMO now with Sandbox elements to it. If we do have nations in the game, it should be FOR the nation, not for a bunch of players to profit from it, but the whole nation. If you can't understand that, well that's just too bad, but that's just my opinion, you can hate on it or simply move on.

No one is hating, they just don’t like your idea, and are critiquing it.

What about the term “sandbox” don’t you understand? Players are currently constrained by nations and the limits they place, which is very “un-sandboxy,” and just because it doesn’t fit your notion of what should be the focus of the “game,” doesn’t mean that the game wouldn’t be better for backing away from rigid nation concepts and giving players more control over the ways in which they ally.

I have never been in a nation that successfully united. It was always one clan or another (sometimes even working together!) that brought prosperity and progress to the nation incidentally.

Furthermore, I don't think it is possible to have united nations, anyone can join whatever nation they want, which may be at odds with their goals or playstyle. Then they are stuck either buying the Forger DLC or waiting 30 days to move to a nation that better suits them. You literally cannot force people to work together in a voluntary video game scenario.

I'd like to see clans and clan alliances come to the forefront. I have friends in many nations that I wish it would be easier to sail together and hunt, instead of just seeing "Enemy Player" and getting a little shock of adrenaline even though it is your known friend.

There are of course difficulties in clan alliances (what if clan A is friendly with clan B and C, but B and C are not friendly to each other? Can clan A join both sides in their fights?) but I think it could work out in to a much better and more fun system. Plus then you could fly whatever flag you want!
