Hotfix for patch 35 - 11 September

Ships created from dropped notes from chests and imported ships will have slightly higher chance to get additional upgrade slots than before (crafted ships will still have 3x higher probability)

Do admiralty ship notes & tutorial rewards ship notes also benefit from this ? And do they also benefit from the rng port bonuses ?

Captains..

Small patch will be deployed tomorrow or the day after tomorrow (11 or 12th September)

  • All ships (with the exception of imported ships) will be allowed to capture by the Admiralty on the War server.
  • Oak, Fir, Mahogany, Sabicu planking has been allowed for NPC captured ships
  • NPC captured ships will have from 1 to 3 upgrade slots (compared to previous 3).
  • Ships created from dropped notes from chests and imported ships will have slightly higher chance to get additional upgrade slots than before (crafted ships will still have 3x higher probability)

Goals. Promote more pvp, more port battles and give more options to players and reduce imbalance for nations. Crafted ships (especially with port bonuses) are still better, but captains will no longer will be locked by convoluted rules. You can capture what you see (except for premium imported ships)

@admin is it possible to code in the ability to "refit" a captured NPC ship to include Port Bonuses at a our crafting ports for a fee of dbls, reals, and resources?....for the reason below?

I agree this is a good solution for throwaway ships to level up and open slots in, but people would be crazy to take them into port battles and if they did majority of the PB leaders would not want to take charge of such a fleet.

Espero que estos cambios también sean para el servidor PVE, y podemos beneficiarnos de estos cambios. Saludos y gracias

It's standard on PvE server for ages.

What I find interesting is the introduction or planking instead of omnipresent crewspace on them. This I hope we will get on PvE as well.

yes all changes also will work on pve

Although I do like this idea a lot as it will make the play of say Poland or Prussia easier I don't think it gets to the heart of the port battle problem.

Many players already have x4 quality 1st rates to throw into PBs if they had they heart to do it. But no one is going to throw their "time" into what they expect to be a losing fight. The problem is more a case of player skills and limited arenas. The highly skilled power players can shift any battle with limited numbers. Free ships won't change this.

Throughout history the great equalizer to skill or gear has been numbers. A weaker skilled but more numerous opponent can still give a high skilled opponent a good challenge. However, when the numbers are matched to 24v24 skill rules the day. Gear quality is a close second. Free low quality ships will not really address this and currently a lower skilled more numerous opponent has no real way to bring numbers into play. Maybe Screening but even that isn't ideal.

i would suggest that RvR round first place winners are rewarded for the win but get a slight BR restriction for the next round. The second place gets a slightly less reward and less BR PB restriction next round. Middle of the pack stays normal and the bottom get a next round BR bonus. This would make nations more competitive. Of course players that don't care about nations and just want to win can nation hop. In which case we will see at least a changing ownership of ports the previous winner had all across the map. Less stagnant nap and we'll sell a lot more forged papers if the decide to hop.

If you want to promote more PVP make the ships easier to build... Remove the Doubloons and permits from those ships we need.

They just did.  You can cap all the AI first rates you ever need now.

I foresee the near future repeating history where everyone sails only 1st rates for all PvP and shortly after that the ppl complain about no variety of ships in OW and PBs......again.

Hopefully, something like a per-rate-BR-limit being implemented for PBs #soon.

Capturing all NPC is a great change, now put the icing on the cake and allow ship knowledge slots to be selected at sea.

This will boost players on PVE and PVP server

AI lineships available for capture don't promote pvp, it's just a gift for pvers  & carebears + the final nail on the coffin for anything smaller than a 1st rate...

If, even worse than all, you reduce max br for port battles after that, we will be back at the trash ai 1st rates screening fleets denying access to pb vs forced inferiors pb groups (=> Again a gift for zerg nation that can align more screeners) ...  We had that and that was lame, 1st rates should be less represented, not the every day man's ship.. With such changes any player under full rank will be nothing but useless and kept away from most of the interest left in the game.

Planking woods for admiralty crafted ships is a superb move in the other hand i think.

To everyone that has concerns about sailing "inferior" 1st rates you cap against META 1st rates...  An inferior ship well sailed can take down a META ship from someone you relies on their gear to make up for sloppy sailing.  All day, every day!

I think THAT is what some of these heroes are really worried about.

They did not make the ships cheaper to build.

They gave you a chance to get bigger inferior ships than before.

Tell you what...  we’ll do a little experiment.  I’ll take a 3/5 prince against you in a 5/5 prince and we’ll see who wins....

Deal?

It's a valid concern for a large portion of the group.  Many players are gear dependent.  There are really only a select few who can go out in any piece of crap and win.  Gear is a crutch....simple fact.

And that would prove what?

it wouldn´t prove anything apart one player being very skilled with the prince and one maybe not so much. i´d still very much welcome a massive nerf on all ship impropvements.

whether it´ll be sad for our super-ships or not. it would do good for the game-play. all ai ships capturable could be nice though.

That inferior ships can beat superior ones.

Stop being intellectually dishonest.

Yes, superior ships will beat called ones a majority of the time.  But this should lessen the gap between the haves and the have nots.

If you’re into the whole RvR thing, and you still don’t participate after this change, it says you don’t want to “play”.  You just want to “win”.

A while ago i'd concur. At the moment ? Not so much unless the meta ship is captain'd by a very below average.

can we confirm that a nation has a 25 man PB fleet with all special guns?

that would be nuts :P

Remember that many players do play NA game exclusively every single day for quite extended periods of time and that engage in all types of content in the war server - pve, pvp, rvr, eco.... There's plenty of elite NPC sailing in many different areas.

I'm all for making things easier accessible in the game, last time we had capped third rates the games was a lot of fun.

'Free' first rates means in addition to full-stack Ocean PB fleets OW fights will be dominated by three-deckers. Thinking ahead there probably needs to be a way to reign in the proliferation of those ships to still preserve some semblance of diversity and/or new roles for smaller ships.

great!  back and forth and possibly in a circle!  so the choice was to have first rates with whow effect, somehow a purpose in a sandbox game, and now let's go back again?  so everyone back in bad first rates to give the "pros" and streamers a chance to satisfy their ego?  so will the frigates and the third rates be useless again?  you have made a game with so many ships and now everyone will return to sail only with the biggest? boring!  have you introduced the permits for the best ships, but what can I do with a renomee or an indefatigable? Why the permits if they are so obviously inferior and almost useless?  instead you should set the br in the PB and go back to the variety of ships of the past, where the tactic made sense, but no the choice is for the stacked 25 first rates!  you are losing all the players who love trading because the economy sucks!  start by fixing it, the traders are the ones who really should populate the seas, and instead they uninstall!  I'm sorry but you don't have a plan, and maybe you just listen to the same players all the time, with the result that the numbers of players are going down again, but maybe this is your real purpose?  I always hope to be wrong, but maybe this game will bethe game with one of longer beta testing and a short life after the release (done quickly and without planning).  nevertheless I wish you the best!

I still don't understand why lock frigates, heavy frigates and few 4th rates behind permits, even more now with the ability to cap 1st rates out on the open sea. Only lineships should be locked behind permits, give frigates and 4th rates a better chance at this game, make them more countable at Port Battles, RvR and hunting.

And I still hope one day the game loses the upgrade system and make a more in-depth craft mechanic like it used to be back in the days. Without the upgrades, the logical thing to do would be officers. The ability to recruit officers that gives you a small bonus on some stats, but balances out by sucking at others. Give purpose for players to be more sentimental about their ships, their crews, for once.
