What do the orange lines, connecting ports on the map indicate?

When you mouse-over a capital port on the map, you see orange lines connecting that port to other nearby ports. What do these lines indicate, exactly?

 They are towns that make up the capital region, to attack the towns you need to take the capital first.

Thanks! So the lines have no relevance on the PvE server then?

 Not at the moment, but think the devs did say somewhere they are looking at some way of bringing RvR into PvE no idea how or when though.
