Traders with a will to fight

Recommended Posts

Hey, I was just curious to see how many of us would like NPC traders to engage and try to fight us in battle... the La Gross Venture for instance just runs away instead of fighting if it has a crew advantage... my suggestion is as follows...

Lets have the NPC traders be aggressive until we "break" the moral of the crew by killing off say... 50% of their crew... then the trader tucks tail and runs... But until then the trader will fight … not unlike a warship... and will vie for position to get good shots off at their attackers. After all their guns are there to shoot with... Assuredly, these traders would fight to defend their freight.

Please post any ideas you all may have  I am interested to see what our forum thoughts are regarding this.

P.S. I do understand that something like this was probably talked about before release.. but would it be too much content to add this?

Three cheers for the frigates and their gallant Captains!

Indiaman NPC's.

i suggested it several times that they should add treasure fleets with for instance 10 indiamans escorted by say 15 elite 3rd rates or something

You mean a kind of Trousers Big with tree basts and moor gums ?

Ain't nobody give a god damn about a fake language anyways.

Don't argue with a Frenchman about language, because he will beat you elegantly, blind-folded and with hands tied on his back. :D

look,. all I am saying is there is a reason you have to speak English but people take French for fun.

French went the same way Latin did, the French are having trouble remembering that. The most spoken 2nd language in the world is in fact Spanish so you Americans better start learning your new official language soon!

¡Hasta luego!

A little diversity in NPC trader's behavior would be great.

Less predictability (as it is now, the flight reflex). Instead, give traders by random decision one of the following behaviors:

- flight attempt from the start

- fight to the end like a warship

- fight until having received some substantial damage, then striking colors (you capture without boarding)

- same, but turning to flight after that

Let's imagine the differences are made by the sort of captain that trader has, his will to resist, and their crew.

In addition, some modifier should take into account the battle value of the trader in comparison to the merchant hunter. An Indiaman is more likely to resist a Privateer than a trader brig would. And so on.

And yes, mixed NPC of escorts and traders would be nice, and their loot much better than solo trader's.

This is the sort of thought process I am trying to encourage... these are good ideas... and I think they would be good for both servers... Maybe if this topic gets enough attention the Naval Action team would consider introducing such things to this great game.

At least traders with a higher BR than the attacker should try to fight until their crew is down to 50%.

It might be quite interesting if traders would use chain to slow you down, before they decide to run.

Interesting... to base it off of BR... makes sense too. Thanks for the ideas.

It does make sense for a trade ship to not want to aggressively chase and instead try to escape.

I know your point... and I considered it as historically accurate as well, however I see a demand for action when attacking traders... chaining us could be in order for them to escape... such mechanics should be applied to these traders... this will make trader hunting less of a farm and more of an action in my opinion. In short... it would bring more dynamics to a trader battle if the trader NPCs would try to chain to escape... instead of just shooting with ball ammo.... it all could be a part of the escape plan.

Ha ha ha… your funny, and yes I am not particularly educated mate... I am not but a humble pirate... :)

P.S. Thanks for noticing the miss-spellings.

BTW... Are you an Engish Tetcher? LOL

Well more things like events would be very welcome to add some spice to the game. Things like trader fleets with escorts. We have a sunken fleet event, why not a actual treasure fleet event. It could spawn in a area of the map and attempt to leave for Europe, It could have many Indiaman full of goodies. Speaking of the raids as well why not have a treasure fleet mission that can be taken for a cost whatever that may be and the mission would be to escort a fleet of ai traders from one location to another the larger the distance the more profit. Put out a server message "a treasure fleet has left X city." . I am sure plenty more ideas could be come up with, the greater question is that of the resources put into the games development.

This game definitely needs more. It still feels incomplete and unpolished. The need is for a tweak on the port battles to avoid the stagnant map and the second is to do as Aster suggests or something similar that will give people something to do once they reach max level. There needs to be a pvp endgame and a pve endgame. The pvp endgame is in place with needed adjustments but the pve endgame is non existent.

The development plan admin posted looks pretty exciting, especially the raids. Hope to see this patch soon.

Yeah! I am excited as well, looks very promising... maybe we will have more naval action now on the Peace server...

I saw this as well... being from the PVP server... I have been playing on the PVE server as of late to see what its like... and man, it is very slow paced... the Aggressive NPCs are a must have for long trade runs... and the possibility of NPCs doing invasions on ports that are owned by clans is a step in the right direction.... everything the admin and devs are doing as of now is obviously with the intent to make the game better for everyone... in my opinion... its one of the best updates I have seen for a while... I am glad they are moving in this direction... and … the raiding they are going to implement looks really interesting too!

I cant wait for that DLC ship to come out... I am definitely buying it...

this is a great idea too... maybe a Chinese treasure fleet incursion? Then we could fight the Baochuan. Historically inaccurate I know... but very interesting.
