Lets see how you're doing after the wipe when we no longer have ships left over from better times. And even if your small group is able to put in the hours per day necessary to claim the rare woods, many people can't. This is very obvious from the empty or nearly empty ports, it's even rare to find anything above a oak/fir 5th rate in la Tortue these days, how is that not a problem?

I have thought of that and been working with that. I have avoided using any of the teak, white oak, and live oak. Even beforehand when in the US I had to pay for everything when it came to crafting or having a ship crafted from the clan I was apart of. La Tortue ship market has always been horrible and when something good does show up it is gone very fast. Our small group is going to grow as well. Already have confirmation of players from other nations and people that left the game waiting for full release.

What I do want to see and hope for is at full release to see the is the ports where they are located, change.

The rare wood allowed to specialise ships.  For hunting you would go towards speed and for pb towards live oak and white oak.  Oak or fir ships will not be able to compete with rare wood ships be it in terms of tankiness or speed.  Restricting the access to the rare woods is detrimental to the game.  There is no fun in crafting anymore.  I am sitting on quite a few permits which I do not use since I do not have all the rare woods.  I still have plenty of ships left but after wipe this will be a major issue and I am debating whether I will continue playing or not.  USA use fir and oak ships and they do not last against rare wood ships or either cannot catch them.  If one clan or nation controls this, this will lead to frustration and players quitting.  Players will look to join that nation and it will lead to a severe imbalance on the server.   I do not want to have to cap lgv all day to be able to craft a ship or otherwise sail around hoping for bottles.   Also, if this server is to be hardcore, what is the point to give one side a marked advantage over the other.  The fun is when you fight equal opponent.

Back when sugar and tobacco plantations was a thing.. Pre 2017..

EDIT: It was not without its flaws, but rather than ironing out the flaws they went with print your own money schemes.. Inflation was bad in the sugar and tobacco economy since whoever sailed his 4 indiamans into port first got a shitload of gold whilst everyone else had to wait for server reset. The inflation we have now is however uncontrollable and will remain so.

Ok. It's not what I picture with the term "player driven economy", though.

All I remember was a horribly broken to non-existent economy with absurd amounts of inflation.

Arright, so I'm not insane... Good!

It surely does give nations a chance to get access to such goods like Cartagena that was monopolized by few individuals before unless there was a random drop or chest.

Also giving the port owners control of who has access to these goods is much appreciated.

These two things are mutually exclusive, the system can't give everyone access while at the same let the owner control who gets access. In the past, everyone with an alt could buy any resource they wanted, now it truly is monopolized by a single clan and who is on the friendly clan list. You might not realize the implications of this, but it reminds me of when pirates had outlaw battles. The largest clan has total control, small clans are forced to join them or forced out of the nation. (and now leaving the nation costs money, so they'd probably just quit) Back then it was "do as we say or we sink you in outlaw battles" and now it's "do as we say or we'll restrict your access to rare woods". Any clan who can fill a port battle on their own suddenly has no need for anyone else. What can the other small clans do? It's a 'friendly' port, they can't capture it.

And how long will it be before a alt clan takes one of these rare wood ports? The US coast has some rare wood ports very close to their un-capturable ports. They could easily make an attempt to take one of these ports every other day. However, if it was owned by a clan of alts with no one on the friendly clan list, that suddenly makes it impossible to capture the port, and impossible to get the rare wood. Under the old system there is not this problem, because it is not restricted to who is on the friendly clan list.

Specially an alt clan able to defend the port by themselves, specially right after the release of the game with the account reset.

I think the devs would want a system that works not only at release, but years later with a possible 2500 people, in which case there will be alt clans. But even if we ignore that possibility, what about the more immediate problem of giving total control to a single clan?

Problem is you will never be satisfied unless we go far back which is never going to happen. Even if we go back to the system we had before clan missions all it is a cake with different frosting. Playing as US we had to rely on alts to get things. That should never be the case in this game. Before that as Poland. Lost it all because of PvE players not motivated to fight for what they had. Farther back then that, Dutch. Nothing. Everything was far away on Western and Northern parts of the map. Had to work with what he had which wasn't much. At least now the Dutch have rare goods close to them and even a permanent copper port. Before, copper was that wet dream with that one actress you know was never going to happen. Cannot be upset with the pieces laid before. All you can do is take what you have and try to build upon that to improve it. Especially now that the Early Access is coming to an end. What needs to happen is better distribution or increased rarity or possibly both or the rare resources.

I must say the rare woods has become way too hard to get. How are we to build ships without wood? I tell you how , We don't and we stop playing. and the game becomes nothing. You need to change the way the system for rare woods or lower the resources needed for building the ships. so that way the not just one or two nations have all the best woods. because that is how it is going to end up. And historacly not just one port had the rare woods you have in the game. heck The Us coast should have tons of white oak live oak teak, pine,  cedar, mahogany, maple, beech, birch, hickory, ash and cypress trees plentiful in Colonial America. and not just in one port or little island off the coast. The map should be loaded with all types of woods. Because the area was untouched by humans or the ship building peoples of Europe, Russia the Middleast or Asia. and a better list of ships of the time can be found at this link. It's not my site so check it out or not. they do have 3 ships that dont belong on the list but still you can see how many ships should be in the game. I like the Hulks that would be great for trade ships. and more realistic for loggers of the time. ut for now you need to make some change to the rare woods in game now please. http://www.thepirateking.com/ships/ship_types.htm
