no many Player left cause the devs doesnt Keep an eye on the game and doesnt care what ppl realy want.

i agree with wbcochrain , most ppl leave cause the vets xteaming and farming new Players ever and ever again..

bringing 2 toons from different Nation is not good for RVR and it means not good for PvP.

but this ppl say we only bringing 2 toons cause less pvp ---- what a crap --- thats not true.

xteamer doesnt touch any other xteamer for a fight and thats the true Story about less pvp.

but they doesnt realised it.

trolling and insulting ppl in Chat that is all not good for the game .

PotBS was an amazing game back in the day. I remember throwing 12-14 hours away without a second thought. Alas it is just not policed and the developers seem to be attempting to squeeze every penny out of it. If they were as active as the developers here then perhaps they could have turned it around. Too late now though I believe.

I just checked their website and it is true!

I really hope that the game is done for, it was fun, but nothing decent during most of 2014...

At least more players come to Naval Action and rejoice the awesome combat system and ship models :D

Ed is correct.  I will add the rampant economic crossteaming that takes place as well, which is pretty much a bullet in the back of the head to any meaningful rvr. The lack of enforcement of crossteaming really hurts any promising changes the Devs produce.  The econ revamp is a good thing, but with a game inundated with xteamers, it will not attract the player-base it deserves to run correctly.  They need to purge the game of xteamers and restore the integrity of the game.  Short-term loss in alt income is secondary to the long-term health of the game.

Anything they do now is futile, the game was put in a coffin in 2010 when the devs who knew the code left FLS. The game was ran from then on out by spreadsheet editors and producers (cough Fodderboy) with high minded ideas such as a mass rebalancing of ship stats to hide their incompetence as developers. This culminated in Portalus buying the game and admitting they 'don't have the capability' to add new PB maps. It says it all. All they can do is edit items (note the new ship stats with new names but the same models AND the economy overhaul) when there were and are much more pressing issues.

When a dev team of a established game tries to re balance the economy that has worked fine and even won critical praise on release rather than introduce new content to a 6 year old game it is a sign they can't add new content. It is also a bad sign when the most committed players for 5+ years suddenly all quit the game.

It might be a conspiracy theory but isn't it a wonderful coincidence that the game was "hacked" at the time of the most disagreement from the community towards the games direction? Not only this but isn't it convenient that the forums, the one and only source of criticism on the game never came back but were instead replaced by a comment system on the Portalus website where EVERY post has to be OK'd by the mods? Fishy smells. The devs know and knew the game was beyond saving when they bought it from FLS and are using smoke and mirrors to farm the community for money by making people buy everything with micro transactions while putting zero actual content dev time into the game.

I have written a number of critical comment on the page... and they all gotten approved...  So at least some criticism is accepted.

But otherwise I do agree that it a strange decision not to get a forum. (hell, just make a new phpbb forum.. it can be done in a few minutes)

Is Pirates still a thing?  I cannot imagine there are enough Captains left for it to be profitable to Portalus.

I doubt it's still a thing.  I'm seeing more and more names I recognise from my days on Tiggy's French side - spotted Amphore just yesterday in NA's chat.

The economy remodel has alienated what was left of the PvE fleeters and the RvR (last I checked) had been reduced to some kind of 4th Rate Meta (likely economy-influenced).

PvP in that game always been a gankfest, so I don't even have to mention what it's like now that the economy is forcing players into cheaper, lighter ships.

It is, and for some reason the society I belong to is growing.  Old veterans returning and some new players.

The economy revamp was/is the best patch to come down the FLS/Portalus line in quite some time.  It was never going to win any fans from the 'econ geniuses' (or crafters as I like to call them).  It was a revamp to move the game back towards a real economy and MMO environment of player interaction.  Maybe it is too late for this in-depth of an economic revamp, as the population has tilted toward the arcade crowd who are not as interested in a challenge.

The real harm and detriment to the game comes from rvr not having any impact on any players (except the ones playing within the original intended mechanics of the game).  When losing a DNH (deep natural harbor) port doesn't impact your ability to provide mainline ships to the rvr effort, because a player is economically operational in all of the nations, it tends to diminish the meaning of rvr.  It, economic xteaming, is the biggest and most harmful thing to the RvR and apparently the game population.

So, I am happy to see the society grow, but I know what happens once members figure out that there are plenty of pvp-killing rules for 'fair' pvp (stale open sea pvp), but no rules for unfair gaming practices (econ and pvp cross teaming).

Used to be a Frog on Tiggy around 2011 (Jean de Metz), still recognise a lot of nicks here. Back in those days I was spending days and nights playing, days for grinding out pvp gear, nights for PBs, Port flipping and was starting to get into group PvP more often. Stopped playing that much however, when I started my new job and then got hooked on WoT and later War Thunder (which was another very promising title, yet the devs managed to muck it up, adding content when their game mechanics are totally borked, both in aviation and ground forces).

Tried to get back into PotBS when Portalus took over, but for me the game had already lost a lot of appeal, simply because it felt so much emptier, population wise and a lot of the broken mechanics were still around even after all the time in between (AVCOM for example, or the freaking x-teaming). Left again after a couple of months, just wasn't that much fun any more.

Now my gaming hopes rest on NA, looking forward to get my stern handed to me as soon as I get my key.

Keifer, you made it!

Was working on Fletcher to come over but he's anxiously awaiting Elite Dangerous but may give this a try later on.

I remember you from PotBS Pfeil, but more so from WT.  Agreed on Gaijin's screw up of that game.  My last hopes were on ground forces... good Lord.

I too loved POTBS...spent many many hours sailing as clan McCullogh.   I see several names here I recognise and I'm excited that we may all be sailing the seas again soon.

Just can't do PotBS anymore....game started its downward spiral after P&P, I hung in there and preached patience, but PortalUS has accelerated the process and I will be amazed if its around this time next year.

Fairwinds shipmates!

Loved PotBS but haven't played for a while. I enjoyed how free the pvp is... but my favorite thing was user created flags and sails, being an artist and all around visual media specialist I was super excited about getting into the flag and sail creation but started playing after it had gone down and waited and waited but they never got it working again :( super lame. I would so love if they can implement user created flags into NA but will probably be waaaay in the future if they do :/

My name is Blackjack Morgan, played PoTBS a very long time ago, one of my favorite gaming experiences while it lasted. Just joined NA after following it for awhile and definitely enjoying it so far. Hope to see some of the Captains from PoTBS in NA and look forward to the growth of what I believe can be a great game. Just go easy on me till I figure things out a bit more ok......

Didn't I lolkill your Khan or something, stick picture on the forums and get raged at in chat for a week?

SS or it didn't happen. If you did kill the Khan, I wouldn't hold you breath. I threw away a lot of ships when Portalus trashed game balance. Might as well stimulate the MOV market.

If you sank my Khan beforehand, then did you get the hauling fit one? I've thrown away countless ships on the OS. Ever get drunk and decide to troll about for free fights?
