Revisit DLC ships in lieu of Pandora DLC announcement

Recommended Posts

Hello all,

I am operating at the moment under the understanding that the Pandora DLC will function like the Hercules and Requin DLCs.

Before this DLC is released, can we not revisit the terrible troubles stemming from the Hercules and Requin DLCs?  Honestly, I would pay to have them removed.  In my humble opinion, the last thing this game needs is another redeemable ship.  In fact, with the backlash for the Hercules and Requin DLCs, I am surprised that the developers would offer this new DLC to testers.  Thank you for the offer, but I must respectfully decline.

Hercules and Requin are p2w.  They cost no resources, no doubloons, no reales: the economy is undermined when players do not need to buy resources or pay builders for top ships.  They are top of their class and dominant in RvR, high BR or no.  After the ship wipe, we will see a Herc and Req storm as everyone rides off these free superships.  In my opinion, we do not need another.

So, can we just have a free Pandora permit, or maybe a free Pandora skin? Only available to EA testers?

Thank you for reading.

I do find it amusing that we're doing an XP wipe to create a "level playing field", yet the DLC ships will remain and on Day 1 veterans will redeem and slaughter the noobs.

Which I guess is the point right?  Noobs will either be forced to spend money on a DLC or quit.  How genius.

Where is this experience wipe mentioned? You may take my resources, you may take my ship (but please don't), you may take my money, but don't you dare take my hours and hours and hours and hours and hours of grinding to get to read admiral. I don't have the time to do it over again!

Admin has since revised a few of his posts on there, but I think that one defines what the wipe will be clearly enough.

Your XP will be removed to make a level playing field with all the new players.

These are dark times.

Not really.. The sun is shining in Denmark, there's 14 degrees celsius outside, I've had the day off, read a book on roman antiquity and checked up on Star Citizen where development seems to be a bit more professional. Even if it is a shitload more expensive, but in terms of hours spent afk sailing I'm guessing it's money well spent..

The grind to 250 crew will take hours for a vet who knows what he's doing.

Use logic rather than insults.  kthxbye

Heck, like two hours, really. Depending on the state of the damage model, the killing two cerbs exam might go even faster than it did before, and doesn't that bring you up to 280?

Or just do the exams in 45 minutes,

Use actual logic rather than smart arse answers ;)

You just need to accomplish the tutorial and have 280 crew. For a veteran this is a matter of a few hours.

For exams you have to do tutorial before I think?

And for final exam you need to do the other exams first aswell.

Takes around 2 hours all in all

If the tutorial stays as it is, I have the feeling that it will be a lot harder with the new damage model.

Filthy casuals. It takes an average of 1 hour and 52 minutes if you're not watching Netflix while you do it. ;)

That's the crazy irony.. literally the day of release, a few hours after logging in, any new players will be hopelessly behind. This is especially true with the new damage model and the bigger-ship-always-wins gameplay it enforces.  So I fail to understand why @admin would piss of a huge segment of the remaining player population by walking back a former guarantee on xp and crafting xp.

I mean, the world will be filled with small ships for a time regardless of whether we are M&C or "Sea Lord" (who came up with that name? so bad...) because clans will be scrambling for resources and reals. This decision to renege on a promise is them basically cutting off their nose to spite their face, and it will have little to no impact on new players. It only serves to inflate those negative Steam reviews on launch a hundredfold and depress the player base even further.

People are so negative these days. :) I think it's the right decision even if many are not happy atm and will bomb steam with negative reviews

Actually it's much easier. The demast and stern camp mechanic is much, much simpler.  I predict times will go down a lot for anyone with skill, but you may be right for new players.. it may be nigh impossible without cheesing the AI.

who said the tutorial will not be adjusted for the new combat mechanics? Since it was added in the old combat system I would like to think a new tutorial for a new mechanic is needed.

I find it amusing that someone that is so against the DLC model buys it. But I guess I am just cheaper than you or what was your argument against me?

That's the thing, I actually am totally fine with a wipe. But it should never have been guaranteed that people would keep their xp and that part of the progression post-release.  People literally purchased the game under that assumption and it turned out to be untrue.  I feel for them.

Same here, I actually supported and even argued for full wipe. But the fact we were told it wasn't happening is what caused the problem. It's not just for myself but a lot of friends that play don't want to redo what they already did and want to quit. A lot of the fun of the game is having your friends playing with you.

On topic
I would think since the ships cost a lot of money to design and create for the game they don't want to waste the chance to make money from it. Might also be a good time to ask what even will happen with the Christian?

Y'all remember when premium ships were just going to be blueprints that allow you to craft a ship?

Pepperidge farm remembers :C

Against DLC model or against DLC ships in PBs?  There is also creating an imbalance in game and there for "encouraging" players to purchase DLCs?  One could be against both of these and yet still support, or attempt to support, development of a game.  I know concepts that aren't black or white are difficult for the likes of Hachi, but sometimes opinions can be complex.

Let's make it simple for you.

DLCs creating P2W ships that adversely alter RVR or the OW.  Bad
DLCs creating harmless cosmetic content.  Good.

Are the Tutorial rewards going to be reset so we can do them (sigh) yet again?

Yes.

That was the only DLC I was upset about and purchased it under the influence of others and alcohol. For a cosmetic item it was a bit too much. Only way I can see myself as a Swedish player getting a satisfactory return is if they patch in additional flags and build upon that DLC rather than creating a completely new Flag DLC.
