Operations: Welcome to the Caribbean - suggestions

Recommended Posts

Two general comments, and then some recommendations for additional items for your list.  @admin

First, this is good content.  Lots of threads asking for more content and you've hit on it here.  Second, many of the things you've listed should be Steam achievements, not necessarily in-game achievements.  Please consider.  This is of interest to many players.

I'd like to see some more challenges added to the list, not only for newcomers but also for vets who might be bored one day and ask themselves what should I do now?  Here are a few, not listed in any order of precedence or difficulty.  The goal is they all have meaning to teach something in the game, or get players to expand a bit:

  1. Sail 15 in-game days in any ship across a minimum of 7 regions without entering port or being sunk.
  2. Make player to player trades in at least 5 free ports, including El Rancho and Guayaguayare, including at least 1000 doubloons and one ship in 1 trade in each port.
  3. Make player to player trades in all free ports, including at least 3000 doubloons and one ship in 1 trade in each port.
  4. Sail within 15° north or south of either east or west on the map in any trader ship, for at least 1000k, without taking damage or being sunk.
  5. Win 5 consecutive battles alone in any 4th rate ship, against 5th rate warships or better, without entering port, and without carrying any repairs.
  6. Win 3 consecutive battles alone in any ship at least 5th rate, against warships of equal or greater rate, without raising sails greater than battle sails.
  7. Win a battle alone in any 4th rate, against any warship of equal or greater rate, using only manual sailing the entire battle.
  8. With only warships in the battle, bounce at least 100 shots off any single enemy ship in the same battle, without being sunk.
  9. Make at least 10 deposits into a clan warehouse.
  10. Add 10 in-game friends to your friends list.
  11. Have a combination of two Level 1 buildings, two Level 2 buildings, and one Level 3 building.
  12. Loot one ship of each class.
  13. Sink one ship of each class.
  14. Win a battle with less than 50% sails remaining on your ship.
  15. Reset your perks at least once.
  16. Craft one ship of each class up to 4th rate.
  17. Craft a Victory.
  18. Craft a Bucentaure.
  19. Enter 200 unique ports (cumulative).
  20. Craft 10 cannons of each weight, including carronades.
  21. Use 5000 labor hours in one day.
  22. Buy a Mercury from the Admiralty shop, and win 3 battles against 6th rate or better warships using no repairs, and no upgrades.
  23. Destroy a fort.
  24. Win a battle against any 4th rate warship or better, in a 5th rate, with Survival off.
  25. Capture a ship of each class up to 5th rate.

Plenty more, but thinking in terms of things that capture attention to more than just new players.  Them too. :)

Suggestions may well be agnostic regarding server. So they can fit Peace server wherever application is possible - no player versus player combat - and on the War server if it can be done to Conquest or other similar war activities.

@Jean Ribault A lot of those if not all sound a lot more like game achievements rather than missions/operations. Some of them only suitable for the PvE server.

Did you read the entire post?

That's what I said, right up front.  Achievements.  However, has zero to do with server, can be done on any.

No it was too long lol
But sailing out with no repairs doesn't seem suitable for a pvp server. Other than that, they seem interesting.

Join the clan from the leaderboard (forced requirement - operation will not complete if this )

This is something I have suggested a few times and glad to see it is something being considered. @admin When you say "join the clan from the leaderboard" do you mean the clan at the top of the leaderboard? If so, there may be a few cases where the biggest clan does not want to take in a bunch of new players.

Maybe there could be a checkbox in the clan menu to "allow automatic recruitment of new players" ?

This would:

  1. allow the clans to decide whether or not they want to take on new players
  2. automatically place the new player in the highest ranked clan that has the "new players" checkbox selected

By doing this, you automatically put the new player in the biggest clan that specifically wants to help new players and it allows big clans to decide whether they want new players to join their clan. A simple feature like this would streamline the entire "join a clan" process for new players.

*I suggest this as an automatic feature because asking in nation chat/PM to join a clan is not always the best idea. Sometimes you get struggling clans trying to recruit new players (nobody likes to join a dead clan when starting a new game). And sometimes time zones are an issue and clan leaders are not always online. This can result in some clans taking a day or 2 to respond to a join request.*

Welcome to the caribbean will be a new player operation that every player must pass before getting access to admiralty missions (all types). The goal of the operation is to guide the player through necessary steps required for great gameplay.

What we need is your suggestions of steps and hoops passing through which will prepare the player to be a member of your fleet or clan.

Proposed 3 part operation

Welcome to the Caribbean

  • Equip an upgrade on your ship
  • Equip guns to your ship
  • Unlock and equip a perk
  • Repair your ship in battle
  • Find and capture a trader in the open world
  • Find and sell a trading good in your Capital
  • Deliver the ship to  ____ name of free town contextual to your nation.. For example American players will be required to set up outpost in La Tortue or Tumbado
  • Establish the outpost in that city
  • Join the clan from the leaderboard (forced requirement - operation will not complete if this )

The clan part is not good. And even worse the fact that you shall join a clan from the leaderboard. Some clans will end up asking silver or other absurd requirements to let someone "in"

Addition to sealed bottle: Rare chance at single player epic event - "Rumors of enemy activity" (working title)

This rumor could drop in cargo while sailing and fishing just like sealed bottles, but I would prefere that that it was "dropped" when entering a port. So each time you enter a port there is a tiny chance you can pick up a "rumor". A a message box could appear when entering the port giving basic description of the report and letting the player chose to accept it or not.
The report could describe a rumored enemy captain (AI generated name), from X nation and his ship great success in hunting their nations enemies in an certain area of the map. I'm not creative so this could probably use some more "flare/meat on the bone". Would be nice if the nation the enemy captain was fighting for was connected to the generated name and what ship he was sailing, so if he was french he could be in a french ship like the Renommee or L'Ocean for example.

If you chose to accept the report, it would spawn a battle instance with special mark on the map, somewhere on in the area the report refereed to. And this battle instance would be an solo epic event. So the enemy is an epic AI (hard) with the same name and vessel as in the rumor. In these fights single players can loot Silver/golden - chest and has a chance for epic chest. Could even consider adding drop chance for dead mans chest in there and make it truly awesome!

The player would have to bring an equal rated ship to be able to enter, or maybe even a smaller class vessel, if it is to easy to fight a single epic AI.

To make it easier for casual player it should inform them about the danger involved and give appropriate recommendations. Like bring a experienced battle officer with experince in the ships  (they need to have officer perks and knowledge slots setup for combat), a ship capable of withstanding a hard combat/battle, and enough repairs/rum to endure a long fight.
This is information new/rookie-casual players needs. Also when the enemy sinks it should give out a hint to the player, saying that he/she should sail over and loot the sunken enemy to take his treasure!

The key stuff here for me:

  • More variation/content for single players in PvE and easier access the the rare stuff many of us have gotten by doing epic events in a rather organized way. This would not require a casual player to know and gather 5 other captains all in purpose built ships, witch is rather hard. This should be doable for any player on their own!
  • More players sailing around with valuable chest in OW giving more chance for PvP hunters to get lucky/something very good.
  • If you get this rumor in port you have to accept or decline on the spot. You can not bring it to an safe area of the map and open it there and then have it spawn in this area for safe collection and transport.
  • The AI should be in any ship basically, maybe even make it very rare that they are in the largest line ships, just so it is easier for casuals to get a appropriate ship and not a total disaster if they do lose it. This would imo make it more dynamic and accessible for most casual players.
  • If I would have gotten one of this events when I was leveling and it was for a ship/rate class I did not yet have, I would have found it extremely motivating to rank up and get knowledge on a ship in that rate class to attempt a challenge like this.
