Gentlemens, seniors, monsieur.

Let’s vote for Christian VII, Wasa and xebec.

Give them a chance to top-10.

In my opinion (and not only), these ships are more interesting for game progress now.

There are two 1st rate ships in the game already. Océan-class - why?

Why the third now?

Butsentaure will be made, sooner or later. Likely sooner.

Christian VII is more beautiful than USS Independence.

And the most important thing  in the game is no Danish ships, unlike the USS.

Danish ship, the Swedish ship will help to popularize the game in the Scandinavia region.

Anything Swedish and i shall pledge my allegiance to this game and its company for all eternity.

P.s. there are six!!! SoL in the top-10 now. Why???

The game needs a “middle-class” ships – 20 – 60-guns

It is the basis.

Thank you.

Ill state the devs here:

But we are definitely working on other ships in parallel and French ships are planned.

This player select vote is the opportunity to bring a unique or beautiful special ship into the game. This is also an opportunity to make something outside of reason or gaps in the line up.

For example if we did not have this vote last year we would not have Santisima because it's a brick and it sank etc - but players wanted it and it is now sailing in the game.

Vote on things you as a player would love to sail or try or fight against. Basically vote with your heart more than with your brain, even if it does not fill some gap.

That said we will get mid-class ships, too despite the wish of the community for bigger fish.. ship i mean.

My initial thoughts were: What do we need?

But after reading what the devs said I now think: whats a cool ship to have?

Vote by your feelings. Not with your brain :D

I think it's very important to mention that the Danish navy always has been one of the best, and greatest navies. By the time the Napoleonic Wars broke out, Denmark had a navy that rivalled those of Spain and France.

And while my opinion might be biased, I think that having the Danish navy represented IG is more important, than having the Swedish one represented IG. Sweden lost most of its navy after the Scanian War and the Great Northern War. The Swedish navy was very small by the time the Napoleonic Wars broke out.

I'd like to see HMS Pickle as part of the game, she was the ship that brought the news of the battle to Britain and the loss of Nelson.

Also there is a replica of her that should be in the UK by April/May this year, would make a great place to help launch the game if you went to her, HMS Victory and HMS Trincomalee

Hi All,

I really like the initial choices of ships that have been added but for the sake of immersion and looking at this game being a open world MMO can we look at referring to ship by there class?  I understand some or all of the ships listed are probably ships you have found plans for and that fine but it makes alot more sense for Captains to be fighting each other in Leda Class frigates then it does a All in HMS Trincomalee.

For Example the 26. Vénus (1782, French 38-gun frigate)   is the Hébé Class (36/38-gun design by Jacques-Noël Sané of which the Hebe was captured and lead to the design of the Leda by the British.

Talking about ships as classes makes it feel more like a world you are creating instead of a arena ship simulator.

Games looking great so far tho thank you.

This would be my preference too, but we have to balance that with "sail HMS Victory" or "sail the USS Constitution"...

Perhaps we could use the format 'Victory' class 1st rate or 'Constitution' class frigate (substituting the name of the most famous member of a class even if they are not name-ship of the real class), it combines the idea of sailing a famous ship with a good consistent standard for names...

The current ships and WIP...

We have 6 small unrated ships (yacht, Lynx, Cutter, Brig, Snow and WIP Mercury), this is sufficient for now. Frigates, we have 3 ingame and 2 WIP representing all types from very light frigates (Surprise) to super-frigates (Constitution). Again, for now adequate (don't think by saying 5 is only "adequate" that this is a criticism, I will always be greedy for more ships ;)).

Of the 4 larger ships (including WIP Ingermanland) 2 are 1st rates, Santisima and Victory. For a rare type of ship this is more than enough for now (especially considering Santisima could be easily converted to represent a 112 gun ship).

So what do we need? 4th rate, essential, this type is missing completely. More 3rd rates, very useful, this type is the backbone of any fleet but here represented by only the Bellona and WIP Ingermanland. 2nd rate, important, rarer than even 1st rate but we need at least one to bridge the gap. Something to bridge the gap from small ships to frigates, a sloop or corvette. Last but not least, merchant ships, essential for open world and economy. Also variety, to have more nations represented.

Ships in top 10

Rattlesnake, fills gap from small vessels to frigates, also beautiful little ship. Yes

Indefatigable, I would not recommend another British SoL except that with a little extra work this one can represent both Agamenmon (64) and Indefatigable (razee) since they are sisterships. Yes

Hermione, we don't need this ship. I know, I know, beautiful and we have the replica sailing around right now etc but we already have 3 frigates of almost exactly this size and armament (WIP generic frigate/Surprise/WIP La Belle Poule). That last one is even French, we just don't need another 28-32 gun 12 pdr armed frigate right now. No

Ocean, magnificent ship but do we really need another 1st rate now? No

Amsterdam, beautiful famous Indiaman, very useful because we need a large merchantman, replica is on display in the city of her name. Also, Dutch ship, we don't yet have a ship of this nation, good for variety. Yes

Bonhomme Richard, great historical significance even if not the most impressive warship, also the French Indiaman version would be very useful if we don't get the Amsterdam (or even if we do). Yes

Agamenmon, Nelson's favourite ship, covered by Indefatigable higher in list because sisterships, build one build the other etc. (possibly merge and free up one space in top 10?) Yes

Independence, either devs will fix historical problems of not being able to open lower gundeck except in flat calm and this will be a brokenly OP ship much later in design than any other SoL ingame, or they don't fix problems and the ship is just broken. No

Temeraire, beautiful design by Jacques Noel Sane, we could use another 3rd rate (especially a french one) also more ships were built to this design than any other capital ship in history. Yes

Bucentaure, Villeneuve's flagship at Trafalgar, also a Sane design, a bigger 80 gun 3rd rate designed to be a flagship for 74s, equally beautiful to the Temeraire and like that design built in very large numbers, in this case 29 ships of Tonnant and Bucentaure groups. Either/or with the Temeraire, build one and not the other because of similar appearance and role. Yes

Challengers to top 10

Christian VII, very beautiful Danish 2nd rate, fills an important gap and good for variety. Yes

Wasa, unusual but elegant Swedish 3rd rate designed by Chapman. Only 60 guns, but big ones, similar in fighting ability to a 74 even though considerably shallower in draught, something required by shallow Swedish waters. At least one member of the class also served in the Russian navy after capture. Yes

Chapman's Xebec, something of a curiosity only at this stage, especially if the first map is set in the Caribbean since Xebecs were found only in European/Mediterranean waters. No

Leopard, useful because we need a 4th rate, also a historically significant ship as her actions were one of the main events leading up to the War of 1812 Yes

If Hermione/Ocean/Independence could be swapped for Christian VII/Wasa/Leopard in the top 10 I would not even care about the results of the final poll, they would all be beautiful, useful and important ships  :D

I would also echo the sentiment below. I fear some of the realism would be lost if you were engaging a ship that looks exactly as yours does, with the same name and then another sails into view...

Calling them by their classes and naming them on launch (without being able to add prefixes HMS, USS etc. they should be reserved for the navies) would be perfect. For marketing purposes, they could remain historically named in the 'arena mode' ..

Back on topic but relevant to the rest of the post. I would love to see a 'Whitby Cat', made famous by Cpt. Cook, added down the line. Not only because I live only a few miles from Whitby but it would add some variation with it's shallow draught yet sturdy build, in contrast to the more elegant ships of similar size.

Reading through the various (online) sources, I gather that the this type of ship (it was the 20th ship build along the same plans) generally could carry p to 54 cannons. The Amsterdam was equipped with 42 for its planned voyage.

Yet, the information is somewhat 'thin', so I could definitely be wrong. Also, I cannot find any information on the weight of the cannons.

~Brigand

I found it hard to come up with that same information online when I went looking for an indiaman to put forward. I landed on the Amsterdam because in its case a replica exists today, which means that its plans are out there, somewhere. If not, I'm sure enough photographic evidence can be gotten to come up with a reasonable model that doesn't necessarily have to be the Amsterdam so much as an accurate represenattion of a generic indiaman. I also feel the game could use a heavy merchant. There are already ships (lynx, yacht, brig, snow) that technically fill the role of light merchant craft, and I really want to see the upper end of scale of what economy players are going to have to sail with. I didn't think a 30 gunner was sufficient, and yes, would love to see a 54 gun indiaman. Remember combat scenarios with merchants is different, and I'm really interested in seeing how that would play out since the goal is not to sink but to capture one, they being worth more intact and afloat for thier cargo. How do you go about tackling Amsterdam in a Suprise, when you are trying to capture them and they are trying to send you to the bottom with 42 guns?

Not to mention, It would be nice to see a kind of mini game pop up in early release (like Trafalgar) based around a convoy escort/raiding scenario, with a mix of frigates and all sorts of merchant ships - escort convoy from point A to B, or maybe even to a harbor defended by a fort.

As a stout supporter of the Dannebroge (Danish 2nd Rate with a great back story of sacrifice), I'll throw it out there that those who supported this submission to ensure you voted for the Christian VII.

I don't want my submission to split votes. They're both beautiful ships, and at least 1 of them should progress.

I can agree the Dannebroge is a ship with good story, but then again it with the load out of cannons it has it would be a weak SOL in gun size and strength

More Votes for Christian VII guys ! Give us a specially good looking SOL instead of the usual plain ones

I pretty much voted for US ships but I set aside one vote for Christian. So pretty I hope it gets in either with this poll or the 2nd rate thread. :D

Ageed. When she went down, it was 84 guns. Through out its history, it had different configurations, with a nominal gun carriage (proper word?) of 94.

The following source has it as a 1st rate, though it doesn't measure up versus later models: http://threedecks.org/index.php?display_type=show_ship&id=656

This could be entry 2nd Rate, it has less guns, but different characteristics that make it unqiue (worse sailing with more armor, better best point for sailing, the sky is the limit...not all ships will measure up in the same way).

I lament! But am hopeful for future ship releases.
