Patch 26. Spanish Frigate Diana, BR rebalance - Diana is a timed reward.

People who asked for it were the ones who are not so skilled in NA and who wasnt able to defend against hugging and stern camping.

This is what I suggested. An unskilled player could with some luck deliver a nice broadside and be able in theory to finish his target without the need to rely on some imaginative musket fire.

What the devs change will do is:

- skilled players will still stern camp

- skilled players will side hug less but still will be able to get the conditions to do it

- skilled players will board more easily

- unskilled players still wont be able to defend themselves from stern camp

- unskilled players wont be able to deny conditions for enemy to effectively side hug

- unskilled players wont be able to defend boarding (unskilled players will be repeatedly boarded with AI)

- whole NA will be forced into mod cookie cutter boarding build

- combat will become more boring and predictable

Expect more crying posts in the future about our new feature which is simply bad for the game. Expect more time lost on balancing it and possibly removing it.

While I understand that it is game in testing I have seen enough combat tweaks that were taking too much devs time. Game needs to focus on neglected features finnaly.

I dunno how skilled I am, but I am already plotting on how to take down big ships and keep my speed above 8.  I have long agreed that a 5th rate should not survive in the gun arcs of an SOL, because of that example you quoted from the Nile.

it doesnt, this is changing a whole lot more than a musketfeature.

But we are testers so lets go

I know. And me too consider 5 kts speed differential way too high. Still missed chances to properly test it.

On the other hand, making PBs again ALSO (not only) boarding melees, I think it could be good a realistic.

But as wisely said: let's test it seriously, with some PvP and RvR action. And without assumptions ("this is good for Trollquins", "this is bad for casuals" "this is bad for small or big ships"...)

If the big SoL brakes hard, or simply slow down, or even simpler start going backward bow into the wind... it'll be hard for the hugging Herc even dare to come close to her to try a single stern passage. Granted 600+ boarding geared and prepped crew will almost instakill the Hercules 200.

The "basic" tactic of "going to the wind" would, in theory, works wonders.

You state this as if the problem to be fixed is the AI not shooting back at certain ranges.

I said it is one of the things that actually will be affected by it, indirectly.

Maybe I wasn't clear.

Main will be the hugging, definitely.

Maybe for an OW battle but for a port battle where you have to take circles, keeping distance will be a big problem. I just looked over the video of last nights port battle for George Town and the number of instances where boarding would be possible at the higher speeds and the outcome of that battle could have been very different especially with the defenders having 2 Santis. If those Santis had been boarding rigged they could have easily taken out any 2nd rate that came close. Port battles are just going to end up as a clusterf**k with boardings happening all over the place.

Kinda like this? (Cape St. Vincent)

Oh yes we forgot about the PvE players it just occured to me that they will die by the thousands due to them usually sailing live/white possibly foating battery builds and 8knots is usually more than their max speed in realistic conditions. And in fleet mission where you have atleast 2 ships shotting at ur ass almost all the time so you will at one point end up having less crew than an enemy

If anyone here used to be in british nation before the introduction of DD you might remember how many ppl cried about losing expensive ships to AI by being boarded. The number of times i've build a PB ship for someone to lose it within the first 30 minutes...
Now it will be even more common as you could potentially keep your speed above 3.5 knots now the 8 knots thing hm...

We have a very good game with ships, shooting at each other. The boarding mini game looks ugly and is — compared to the main game — realy outdated and ugly. Why are we forced into this minigame now? Why was this mini game not totaly renewed first? I can not understand this.

I farmed PvE in the past... and I NEVER SAILED ANYTHING with floating battery... and neither never a LO/WO outside PBs...

Dozens of suggestions, well thought out etc. but nope, a lazy change that takes a couple of minutes to implement and screws up a lot of other things. Well done, force people to play the silly boarding mini-game because it's REALLY great and everyone just loves it.

Dear Admins...

let me ask you a question... WHY you and your team are changing things, they are ok. And why you dont change things, they are unplayable or stupid, like mechanics of boarding, portbattles, like the real characteristics of types of ships or like the stupid pve to "level" a ship?!

After leveling a ship (in the last 3 years, yes, I did it 4x for each type of ship!!!) ... do you think NOW I need more paractise in boarding? And do you think, the crown of ship battles is boarding a ship? Please tell me... why this change, what is your point? I cant see the sense of this "hotfix" except you have a sense of humor. Please go back to the roots of a playable game with nice sailing ships please dont destroy this game with this kind of "speacial features".

Don't ask me about the Studding Sails on Requin 🤣

No one is surprised or impressed a veteran rage boarder killed a requin with studding sails in a boarding focused ship.

A small hint for all forum readers and boarding lovers:

  • Get the captain defender perk (5 prepared for defend)
  • Equip marines and barricades in ship knowledge
  • Don't use DD perk
  • Get boarded destroy the enemy by surprise

Another nerf for 5th rates 😕

How are they supposed to have any chance or outplay potential against bigger ships now?

The solution as a bigger ship against small ships hugging them was to stop and board them....now they dont even have to slow down at some directions

So, now that we had a very very good combat system and everything was going pretty well, devs decide that it's time to come up with something we actually don't need to break the game again.

Worst patch for Naval Action. When the peak was 500-550, it'll be 300.

But the good news is that we can play other games. The new Assetto Corsa looks good, I have Scum too....

See you soon

Incorrect.  The percentage of ships actually sunk was quite low.  Most surrendered after a token show of resistance to save one's honor.  The majority struck colors and were boarded.

I'm still at work, but my spidey-senses tell me I may actually start to be impressed when I see a 5th or 6th rate take down a big ship.
