Patch 25: Open world user interface update.

But in my oppinion, better crafted ships in ports doesn't fix:

- the boring RvR where you need 25 1st rates to do anything or don't even start just to do pve. 

- the boring 1st rate battles in OW and PB (2nds and 3rds not efficient enough, 1sts don't cost enough)

- the not existent OW pvp due to lack of mechanics (RvR only with 25 + hostility only in big numbers)

- the boring pvp patrol zones because you get ganked anyway whatever you do ... or you come with enough ppl to only gank and dont have a fight

- open world attack button without the ability to cancel (that's how I read it)

Also the battle sail bonus doesn't fix much. You need speed to get the positioning. While being upwind is getting buffed by wind not changing that much and more effective leaks I don't see what a bit better turning will do. in small battles you want to hug your enemys bad side and in bigger battles you want to stay upwind so you have to sail fast upwind.

 

In my oppinion, even if I don't play atm:

- rethink the RvR with flags. It brought way more dynamic into the RvR with the ability for smaller gangs to also find OW pvp around ports that get conquested

- Nerf 1sts. Less HP or thickness and less speed.

- OW pvp could get in with flags again, I dont know. 

- patrol zones ... there are enough good suggestions about that in the forum

 

Battle sails ... the question is if you want battle sails to be the meta like they should be. You have to keep in mind different things in the game at this point though. IRL ships didn't have a HP bar and sank when it got to 0. They fought and killed crew the whole time and concentrated on that and boarding.

To make battle sails worth it:

- longer ranged fights have to be viable and possible. Right now they are not except in 3rds and below. In 1sts it's not possible.

- Reload has to be a thing.

- Crew resistence has to be a HUGE thing.

- Rakes (front and back) have to be effective

 

On battle sails crew should be more protected for gameplay reasons so ships with 100% sails lose a shitload of crew compared to a ship on battlesails. Maybe even let 100% sail ships get into a little reloadshock when they get a full broadside to counter people hugging you.

Because in NA it's all about hugging at a certain point aswell as stern and bowtanking (because that doesn't realy do damage). In the same ships I just hug someone who shot 1 broadside less than me and then I win.

 

 

But yea, problems of NA are not that much battles but everything else.

Flags brought way more empty port battles and long waits for "if they pull a flag".

Flags in any case should be used for raids, as a way to flip a port throw a pvp action. Hostility should remain as the other option.

Despite the way to flip a port, port battles should happen 24 hours later to give a chance to the defender of a proper defense.

About thickness and hp on first rates:

They should be a bit higher than the second rates but not so much. I would say not more than 2k and +2cm thickness. However I believe the problem might be caused by the stack of thickness mods plus live oak thickness.

Couldn't have said it better than @rediii and it isn't a bad patch, it just feels like it does nothing....which i suppose is how a UI patch would feel. 

Not really even any new ship eye candy.

Does nobody remember the dude that bought everyday the same flag just to deny conquest? Thats how good the flag system was.

I’m sure I have said this around a million times now, the game was created backwards and upside down almost like it’s made by Australians 😂,

there adding the stuff that should of already been in game before any of us hit OW.

im trying to super optimistic about it and I’m struggling to even log in these days and I truly love this game but how many more players can it lose how many more content ideas are going to ignored? It’s pretty close to raising the white flag now,

its frustrating to see others games they are apart of get more done then NA, like this dreadnauts, I’m sure there are others working primarily on them but progress is so inconsistent here one minute we get heaps then it feels like it stops, 

the new ships can wait l, but they need to get this UI done and get there A** into gear with the pve side of this game the pvp is good as you are going to get till they have pathed out the pve as it most likely will affect the pvp in the long run

We have 20+ sorts of fish that have no meaning or dedicated icons. Will they change it some day? Who knows...but content based on fish could be massive.

Do not know if oure nation needs craftes. I make the cannons I need. But honnestly I dont think we need more craftere, nobody ever complaint about lack of cannons. Will it screw you over. Think it will be hard only to make changes if it only can be done if all win on it. But the change is not about me ore you personally, But about what is best in generally for the game.

Yes I can make the ship somewhere els, put cannons on them and teleport them up there. Personally I often get short of a teleport of ship. It was a way to make it easier to players to go out and fight. Some will say, why should ppl be able to pay real money to get easy PvP? Well don’t think we will get them to remove the buying of ships, so might as well get some good out of it. It was simply an Idea for ppl to have no excuse not to go out and do PvP.

Equiped with cannons, it would just be, redeem your ship, go out fight, lose it, well then you get a new one tommorow. Think it would be a bit more action in the game. Yes it is easy acces PvP,  but that is what lots of players want. Plenty of players that just want an houre of fun.

My guess is that there will be cannons to buy in shroud. Somehow things like repairs find there way there, guess the same will happend with cannons if there is a marked for it. So for me personally don’t think it will matter. I can afford to pay fore them. But if there is no cannons, I wouldn’t put mediums on it and go fore PvP. Think most player feel the same way.

Ppl like the idea, thats fine, ppl don’t like the idea, well thats fine too. That the fine thing about the forum, we can have a debate and get more opinions, get the pro and cons, so devs have the best chance to make a good decision.  Personally I like this game as hardcore as possible. But my experience is that not the way the majority of the players want the game to go. It was an idea to maybe do PvP a bit easier.

But see your flaw, you don't get a new ship in 24 hours.  That is the yatch's wait time.  So if your going out throwing away the ship you won't have one for a few days. I assume the wait time is going to be more like 3-5 days between ships you can redeem.   

And this is why I supply cannons for a nation, they sail like hotcakes and it gives me enough money to run the rest of my econs (I do have 5 chars) that help support my clans ship building.  

Hardcore as possible would not be push a button and have all the repairs and cannons given to you.

I'm honestly thinking with some of the things you been posting lately you really don't play the whole game or still fairly new to the game.

Also what cannons you use aren't the same as I would.  Oh and I do use mediums for some applications.  Every wonder why some one is out shooting you with insane reload?  Mediums are great for up close brawling if your not using carros, they reload faster than longs, and do more damage.  At close range pen normally doesn't mean crap.

What we now about redem time is that admin have said it will be equal to the Labour hours it need if it should have been build. Pretty sure I read that somewhere. have 2000 labour hours. My guess it will cost  about lets say a Cerberus. A Cerb cost 517 hours to craft and then ofc the crafting materiale hours. Lets say 1000. I havent the exact number. Witch actually will make the ship one I can redeem everydsy

I played since June last year. I do craft, trade, PvP, RvR and missions, but lately I do spend less time in the game. Maybe a houre max a day.

I know the different use of cannons. My experience with mediums it that ppl just stayaway and slowly take you down. But your right everybody have there own way and preferences in cannons. That I dont like mediums in a PvP dosen’t ofc mean others players don’t like it.

Control perk changes (might not get in).

  • Perk control can be switched off in the beginning of the battle, if you do not want to use it.

perhaps a thought:or a change?

change it to a 50 % better aiming for the bow chasers 

-perk: elite aiming  gunners: - (the best of the rest gunners in the front.-  not available for the normal decks )

-wurth 5 perk points.....( not less than 5 points  if it is less than 5 points i am against it)

the perk control in his current condition  is unrealistic  - and not a great feature...

Well, in my opinion „hardcore“ would be in first line realistic sailing an gunnery. And by that mean like the real deal with being able to set any sail in any combination and so on.

Or Battle Sails for the reason they used it in real life. More crew for guns, more stabile platform. And so on.

first of all i see excellent changes here, but

 

-battle sails must have also have a bonus to sail fire

when firing the guns with all sails up  possible fire in the sails is increased by 10 % when the wind is towards the sails

also:- fire changes (perhaps one for the perk section)

-can we have a button  to a fuse in the the  hold for making the ship burn in 20 seconds  (a so called burner schip it keeps afloat but burns longer - ship is covered by grease and oil)

 

when the ship is gone for 50% on hull and 65% on structure the option becomes obsolete and useless  and so only deliberate burners have a purpose

Rediii, there is no point rethinking the mechanic of RvR, untill ports are worth shit. Please start thinking the other way around. You have regions which ALL produce the same goods(trading), which cannot be sold anywhere, but in enemy capitals, or people need to sail 3 hours...Makes no sense at all, and untill this is not changed, it makes no sense at all, to change RvR mechanic. Fight/change the source of RvR boredom, NOT the symptoms.

Next months we are only focused on the
OW UI - will be deployed soon
Port UI - next large patch (July)
Localization - (Aug-Sep?)

From the perspective of the player who already has 1000 hours spent in game that have-not yet left early access - we agree that UI does not bring anything new; EXCEPT bringing new players. Some comments show that even some veterans do not understand that UI and localization is most important to get out of early access.

RVR Is boring comments just sound like: "hey its winter, 2 walls are lacking in the house, and there is no stair to the second floor, but lets focus and rebuild/replace this advanced lighting in the second floor as i already climbed there on the rope and am bored of these lights".

We already made the mistake and tried to tweak combat and rvr and conquest keeping those 2 walls unfinished, which did not help with new players or new player perception of the game. 

So to make things clear and keep expectations in line
There will be no major work on RVR or Conquest until UI is finished and game is localized. The game is in early access which means it is still in development.

We will come back to RVR conversations after current priorities are finished.

RVR Is boring comments just sound like: "hey its winter, 2 walls are lacking in the house, and there is no stair to the second floor, but lets focus and rebuild/replace this advanced lighting in the second floor as i already climbed there on the rope and am bored of these lights". RvR biggest issues are you take to much a hit if you loose a ship in battle your out number in when doing hostility as the attacker.  We went from 97% to Zero after loosing one fight and grinding 2 1/2 hours....every one gave up and haven't tried that port again cause you take to big a hit doing hostility with player kills.  The other issue is to many Deep Water ports are 2500 BR which means an Elite team of 5-6 guys can rule those ports even when dealing with a much larger fleet.  That is great but not every dang port on a cost needs to be 2500 BR.  We hardly see any 10+ port battles in deep water.  There should be more ports with 10K or more BR so we can have 15 vs 15 battles.  This hurts big nations when dealing with a small elite players of other nations that take there port and they can't get it back cause one mistake cost you the battle.  So look at bumping up a lot of the low BR deep water ports.  Most of the shallow sports are 10-25 vs battle why aren't most of the deep water the same numbers?  What the use of bringing 20-30 players if only 5 of them can get into the PB.  This turns a lot of players off PB cause they never get in cause you have to send in your top elite players and it tends to be the same guys over and over and over again.

Well looks like a patch drop this morning.  I'll be off to work before servers get back up, but hope this is the big one.

I stated my view on RvR and those are easy changes of numbers not a bunch of code changes.  Just increase some of the BR's for ports or maybe later give us an option to increase BR's of ports we own (this would go great with the Trade Clan option for contracts and such later).  Maybe look at the hit you take for player kills while doing hostility.

Thank you to the devs for putting this together. I agree that UI changes will help to bring in more players. Hopefully we can keep them (so be nice to noobs!).

Is there any ambition to implement random wind direction in OW?  Chasing a backing wind is unrealistic and inefficient for long-distance travel, whereas random wind (or even predominant wind direction, e.g., normally from SE, but sometimes shifts) would greatly improve realism and immersion in the beautiful OW you've created.
