Naval Action Explorer

Recommended Posts

Captains -

I am uploading an Open Office Calc spreadsheet I programmed to import data directly from the Game Labs provided API .json files and your local game .xml files:

http://www.northeastliquidators.com/Naval Action/

Naval Action Explorer folder contains version 1.3.  Check back and I may have updates to try.  Hope this will help us keep up to date with patch changes and provide accurate and meaningful feedback for the development team.  Let me know if you find any bugs or would like something added or changed.

Fair Winds!

Minnow

12-2-2018 Edit:

Here are some screenshots of the spreadsheet program:

  1. Importing API data to refresh the ship data after a patch
  2. Import Modules
  3. Import Cannons
  4. Import Shop Inventories for selected item showing trade route profits
  5. Inspect Loot Tables
  6. Port Battle Calculator, Wind & Map
  7. Compare Ship Data
  8. Build, Save & Load ships
  9. Select Ship build type
  10. Select Permanent and Regular Mods
  11. Select Cannons
  12. Examine crew distributions & Calculate Repairs needed
  13. Chart loaded or unloaded Custom ship speeds
  14. Chart Basic ship speeds

Not promoting anything here, just that's the only way I could do it

Stunning work Minnow, truly. Makes most of my custom tools obsolete in ways that improve on what we've built.  Very well done and I'll continue to test things and stay tuned to continued updates.  Bravo! :)

Thank you Wraith!  Ver 1.4 posted.  I changed the hull and sail repair calculation back to .025 * actual side hp and .025 * actual sail hp.

I posted version 1.07 which is updated with all the ship data if anyone wants to check out.  I was thinking of working on a BR formula this weekend.  With your input on which ship stats are important, we might be able to help the dev team on BR formula.

This is great!

How do I get more ships into this list?

Also "Drive letter for NA install"... The root drive or entire path to NA exe?

On the ship data sheet, use shift click to select all the classes 1 - 7 and you should see the ship list box fill with all the ships.  Use shift click again on the ship list to select all the ships and then click Update ships.  Now you have all the ships in the ship data sheet.  This list controls the ships that are listed in the dropdown on the ship builder sheet.  It also controls the ships listed on the PB calculator and Chart data sheet.

The game path drive on the Guide sheet is on C.  If you installed on D, just change the C to D.

The 2.0 version I hastily put up there has some new sheets that aren't done yet but work to some degree....maybe I will finish the shops sheet if its any use to you all.

I could try to empirically modify the sailing profiles for the sail force mods if I had some data showing wind angle and speeds at major points of sail.  For example, give me the Bellona speed with elite Spanish sails at a few angles and I could calculate the extra bonus/penalty it gives.  Would be nice huh?

Also when I post a newer version, you can copy any ships that you saved on the older ship builder list to the newer version.  Just copy and paste them at the bottom of the list of saved ships.

i am amazed!! it is what I wanted to do, but too lazy to do :o

thank you good sir, you are legend!

may i ask, since i did not find it so far, would it be possible to add a ship crafting calculator: ressources required, materials, labour hours total, and estimated price based on values set by user, or default ressource price from the api?

Hey @SS Minnow, it seems like your cannon data are wrong in the spreadsheet (vertical dispersion for most cannons isn't up to date and carronade penetration values are not correct). And I don't see a "Refresh" button or option for the gun data.  It might be something to add in the future!  Thanks again for the tool!

I updated Naval Action Explorer:

  • imports cannons now
  • ship builder fixes:  repairs, crew distribution, speed adjusted, better cannon setup, load and save
  • loot tables added
  • shops added
  • port battle calculator added

The 4 API text files and Open Office spreadsheet are located here.

You need open office installed.  See the guide tab for more instructions to set the security so the macros run.

I was working on the chart speeds when the ship has sail force modifications like Pirate Rig, etc.  I was using this spreadsheet along with some influence factors I made up to correlate effects of modifying main, jib and spanker sails.   Would like a newer version of that sail spreadsheet if anyone knows where to find it.

Final word...know what you want, make a plan, get it and have fun!

Heres 2 aggememnons showing effect of elite spanish...is that too much?

SailMods1.pdf

considering that from 45-75 degrees the difference in speed is only .5 knots or less and from 105-180 degrees the difference is a full knot, the positives definitely outweigh the negatives. It is dated 2/16/18... is this data up to date?

Its up to date.  Try this link for the aggememnon comparison.  Here is the sail influence chart i made up.  So my model is:

main sail influence factor * percent main sail + jib influence factor * percent jib sail = adjustment factor

adjustment factor * constant * normal speed = modified speed
