Little things you'd like to see

Recommended Posts

Here are few things I wish to see in the game :

- An upgrade/perk to move 1 or 2 canons from the side to the bow

- The possibility to trade with others players in OW

- Drop cargo capacity for traders in battle which can be recovered by ganker(s) (Wooden Box)

- Take controle of a tower in the begining of the port battle like a 1 dura ship with perk and upgrade

- Crafter can give a name to a ship

- Event PVE/coop to attack huge traders convoys with escort

- Add some building like tavern, Whorehouse, shop.

- TP your ship on the battlesreen to the outpost of your choise, with a cooldown to exit this outpost with a ship

- More explorating items like rendom wreck on sea and building on land

- Vessels Wearing with obligation to let your ship to a crafter for maintenance (with perk and RNG to reffit the ship)

- A better managment of the crew in bording (with slide to select the number of crew you want with muskets, attack, defence...)

- Making ship deliveries (without cargo)

- An IA able to make a line an fight

- Send ships to the chat

... and more but it is a first draw :P

While it would be convenient to teleport a ship, I don't like it for realism purposes.  Just sail the ship to your other port.  You can already teleport between ports as a person, let that be enough.

Other than that, I love the OW trading.  It would help if I could give a repair kit to an ally in need.  As well as the large PVE events like a convoy.  That would be fun

I would like to see, that you are able to "unlock" more ports.

Our map is too big just to have 8 ports. Thus, I would rather like to see the round numer of 10 ports which are able to unlock. Just say: the 9th port cost 5 mio, the 10th 10 mio!

Some kind of "poll", you should be allowed to change your vote.

A poll for upgrades, if those are too good, balanced, or not good enough.  Maybe options for radically OP/UP as well.  Or rate 1-5, well you got the point already.

I do not think that a democratic way will bring optimal results, but most probably we could narrow down the extremes at least.

There should be also "I do not know" option.

Colored pennant, that will indicate quality level.

Gray pennant for Basic

...

Golden pennant for Exceptional

In one way it could be better to not see this info, like atm.  Still, the exceptional is better, and sinking a gray pennant indicates that it was just a basic vs your exceptional.  Could be that this info is interesting only for competitive PvP players.

OR

BR could be informed in the "tab window", the one which shows what ships are in the battle.  BR could take on account the ship quality, and count some value for upgrades as well.  Upgrade quality level should be indicated as well.

...

A: 1000BR

VS

B: 2000BR

A side wins without losing any ships.  Everyone is omg A fleet played so well.  What if we had calculated the BR like mentioned before.

A: 4000BR

VS

B: 3000BR

Suddenly A fleet is not that good anymore.

...

I have perfect ships, it is not about that.  I still would like to know do I win because of skill, or because I have always the best possible ships and upgrades.

I've been browsing around and I'm sure I'm not the first person to suggest this, but I can't find a suitable topic at this time other than right here.  An old ship requires upkeep.  A ship that has been in the water for long duration requires upkeep.  Scraping the hull, replacing rotting wood, etc. As of now, the only repairs that are done are battle oriented.  Currently, this game needs a new money sink, and this is a good place to start.  After X number of days at sea (cumulative, since there is no designated dry-dock at this time), a ship needs to be overhauled.  Scraped, inspected, and repaired as necessary.  This may seem tedious, but I feel like it would really improve several points in the game.  Too many rich players have nothing to lose, and too many large Ships of the Line are sailing the waters without a concern in the world.  Below I've got some preliminary (and completely arbitrary) numbers for consideration.

After 90 days at sea, a scraping, caulking, and inspection is required.  Random roll to determine any additional repairs that must be done (with a small chance of negative outcome).  Cost is not prohibitive, but every 90 days you have to scrape your hull or you begin to experience declines in speed and potential leaks (depending on random roll).

After, say, 270 days at sea, a higher modifier is added to the random roll, giving a higher chance of more cost prohibitive repairs (replacing rotten wood, rusted metal components, etc.)  Additional possibilities could revolve around old cannons needing to be replaced due to corrosion.

The affect of a 1st Rate Ship of the Line like the Victory needing a complete overhaul would be incredibly expensive.

This was something I was thinking of last night, and figured it would be a good thought for someone with a better mind with numbers to run with.  Let me know what you think!

A few things I would like to see. I appreciate some of these things have already been mentioned.

1. Ability to leave officer in port. When i m on a trading run i don t really need an officer with combat perks. Obviously no officer on board then no perks.

2. Storms, fog and other various weather conditions that if not sailed correctly can lead to ship damage.

3. Tied to the above some nice pointy reefs to run aground or even wreck upon.

4.When entering a port as well as the usual enter port option, have a take longboat ashore option. This takes you to port screen where you can do everything except unload, repair or change your current ship. The upside is when you leave port you don`t have the "2 mins before engaging in battle" option. When leaving port cannot use the longboat option for 2 mins. This would enable players to craft etc but their ship is still ready to defend local waters.

5. On OW voyages ships use up provisions and water, the upside is you can anchor in certain coves, beaches to replenish. Random chance of losing crew to unfriendly natives, animal attacks or disease.

I think this would be a good idea if it were simplified.  The rationale above all makes sense, but maybe could be implemented into a single number (percentage) that is a ship health indicator, which is essentially an overall multiplier on ship performance, encompassing all aspects such as speed, turn rate, etc.  One number, with all your factors essentially contributing to it.  Once the number hits a minimum threshold you have to address it or the ship won't sail.  A new ship starts at 100%, and anything between that and the min threshold reduces performance to a small degree.  Just building on your idea which I think is good.

I do not like AI fleets, and tried to think a way how those still could be useful, had that one post about that.  I was wrong, and also cannot find the noaifleet post, so...

I did not really have big issues with this one, as AI fleets have been really rare and those are far from real players.  Recently I went in combat and, I think there were 4 players + 2xAI fleet per player -> 12 ships.  And I understood, that there is absolutely no room for fleets.  It is simply stupid.

Id like to see better big storms:

Waves: In the storm it would have bigger waves that bring your ship high if you are on them, and hide your view when you are at the bottom hollow of them. These wave could also push your ship a bit in the direction of the wave if you not moving enough (only during the time the wave go through you).

Gust: There is no gust wind in the game... it should be in storms at least.  A gust is when the wind pick up higher than the normal wind strengh for a short amount of time.  So, during storm id like to see gust wind that push your ship slowly in a direction when it happen, then the gust stop... then comeback etc.

:P

Recently I have looked into crafting and trading a little bit and would like to list a few things that are really missing at the moment.

  • "stack all" option in your warehouse - could be added as a rightclick option on an empty slot and would merge the items into 1 stack. For example if I have 2 stacks of Coal it would merge them into one
  • some sort of wallet where I could backtrack the money movement. Would be nice to know where the money came from, what did I have sold and where. Every income and expense would be displayed
  • ability to modifiy contracts. If I want to adjust the price in my contracts I have to cancel them and put it up again
  • the Traders Brig's cargo (2450) should be smaller. The GAP between its cargo and the LGV's cargo (3100) is way too narrow. The LGV's stats (structure/sail HP, armor thickness) are roughly the double of the Traders Brig's stats and I believe the cargo should be adjusted accordingly. Either decrease the Brig's cargo or increase the LGV's and the Indiaman's as well to maintain the size ratio.

  • extend chat functionality. Every player should be able to create chat channels and invite the people he wishes to be there as the creator would became the admin of that channel. These channels should be permanent, and the invited players would auto-join after logging in. This would help organizing groups from different clans and nations and greatly help the players to socialize, and get involved in different activities. These chat channels could also an serve as intel/organization channels in different theaters for allied nations/clans or individuals.

Not sure if any of these had been mentioned before or planned already but I found the lack of these functions very painful. :)

Ahoy folks! I would like to have a "throw Dice" button on the chatwindow, that posts the results in the chat wich is curretly open. There are a ton of things you could use them for, rolling for a captured ship or just for some money for example.

There had, at one time, where the AI was more aggressive on the PvE server. It would be an advantage to have random aggressiveness brought back to spark a more life into the game.

Another idea is to have AI trader fleets that would travel from Freetown to Freetown. These fleets would have a tag that, instead of ATTACK, it would be DEFEND. you click and now you are guarding the fleet which needs to make it to the next Freetown. Your reward if nothing happens travel XPs gained times the number of ships protected. As a lure for an AI attack on the convoy is the fact you are not an AI so the aggressiveness factor plays in here. If you are attacked by an AI and you successfully defend the convoy you receive gold from killing the AI times the number of ships still floating in the convoy. Sometimes it could be a boring trip, sometimes the match can be equitable or sometimes you are overwhelmed and wished you had others with you to help.

Just tying to find ways to increase interactivity on the PvE server without any major rewrite.
