Little things you'd like to see

Recommended Posts

I'd love to see a more beautiful, period appropriate font for OW city/port names.

For instance, in the TV show Turn, look at how they do titles for time and place... I'll see if I can find a YouTube example.

I am sure this will be part of the UI update.

Has it already been requested that OW salutes be a thing?  A simple ability to fire off a gun in salute to an approaching friendly ship. It adds a little more sociability to the game without having to open the unrealistic chat window.  Obviously chat is a requirement in any social game, but the salute would be a really nice touch for me.

I've long wanted this.  Being able to target a ship and fire a gun in salute.

There are many historical procedures of doing a proper gun salute. Most depend on the rank of either captains or the mission they are on (/diplomats).

Now that is the complexity the game can never fully catch. ;) (Neither the French, which instigated many historical incidents. As the British would feel insulted. :P)

1. Port raid: Why taking an empty Port, without defenders, or with defenders within, which do not want to defend, whatever the reasons, when a Port could  be raided.Mechanics are already available(Towers),instead of automatically assigned loot, Raiders who broke defence should be able to"choose" the loot they would like to take.

This would force each nation to take more care of enemies in their waters, and prevent tactical handover of minor ports to the enemy.

2. Sealed Bottles: Different opinions about it, but Bottles are fair chance for each player to gain an upgrade which cant be crafted.

Instead gaining 5 bottles a day, like before, with many Upgrades which can be bought or crafted, or now, where the Bottles are pretty useless,it would be a compromise to gain 1-2 Bottles in a week, with Upgrades which CAN NOT BE CRAFTED,and only those. Getting RUM RATIONS in Sealed Bottle is a nice thing, but those can be crafted. Gold MARINES cant.

Thank you.

What I'd like to see in forthcoming port battles (if 25 vs 25 will be kept):

Fixed amount of slots for certain type of ships

2x 1st rate

3x 2nd rate

5x 3rd rate

7x 4th rate

8x 5th rate and/or smaller

Very good idea IMHO !

Make the bottle rare, but also valuable that way!

The anticlockwise wind shift, while I enjoy it, and understand his purpose, it's constant regularity is anti-immersive.

Would it be possible to have local winds? each zone with particular wind shifts, perhaps determined by game time (example, at the afternoon, near the coast, winds tend to shift due to temperature differential), if time compression is not an issue.

Adding constant winds determined by season in some areas of the map would be cool too, this could become an interesting challenge for nations at war.

Having some constant winds, in specific areas, that last a few in-game months, could make trade and war more realistic, challenging, and fun. Add Meteorological reports to buy in-game and suddenly you have a new game mechanic.

It would be great if you would retain your national flag when supporting an ally in a battle. Why would I use spain's flag as a french ship while helping spaniards in a battle? I mean, french and spanish ships kept their distinct national flag at Trafalgar :)

This could even lead to misidentification in battle if there are 4 nationalities in the same battle for exemple.

I'd love to see the ability to individually load the decks. While I see this could be very difficult micromanagement some cannons aren't really that powerful and some ships would profit from setting the top deck guns to grape in the beginning of a battle.

I'd also like to be able to choose the ammo type I come into battle with when I have the prepared skill. It used to be a few months ago that when you came into battle loaded you could switch the ammo before the timer ran out without the load being partially reset. I'd like that back or the ability to flog my crew for their stupidity to load a chase ship against a trader with cannon balls instead of chain or grape.

I don't think it will be a problem, I usually look more on the color of the names than the flags. It is only an issue when you shoot at a distance where no names are shown, but in the end you should know your allies and enemies by flag.

Here are few things I wish to see in the game :

- An upgrade/perk to move 1 or 2 canons from the side to the bow

- The possibility to trade with others players in OW

- Drop cargo capacity for traders in battle which can be recovered by ganker(s) (Wooden Box)

- Take controle of a tower in the begining of the port battle like a 1 dura ship with perk and upgrade

- Crafter can give a name to a ship

- Event PVE/coop to attack huge traders convoys with escort

- Add some building like tavern, Whorehouse, shop.

- TP your ship on the battlesreen to the outpost of your choise, with a cooldown to exit this outpost with a ship

- More explorating items like rendom wreck on sea and building on land

- Vessels Wearing with obligation to let your ship to a crafter for maintenance (with perk and RNG to reffit the ship)

- A better managment of the crew in bording (with slide to select the number of crew you want with muskets, attack, defence...)

- Making ship deliveries (without cargo)

- An IA able to make a line an fight

- Send ships to the chat

... and more but it is a first draw :P

Hello, i really would like to see the possibility to changing my ingame Name for maybe a certain amount of Credits.

Some another ideas i just want to suggest or support would be. The Option for Pirates (maybe nations to) to run custom Flags or choosing different once out of a given pool of some.

Maybe some first person modes to anker next to irelands and beeing able to explore them or maybe store and build things.

And i really liked those ideas to get a more worse wind when u sail in wind shadow of others.

Here are the things I'l love to see in the OW area, as I'm a huge fan of sailing for hours and exploring/trading/fishing.

Better water physics

Better ship animations (sails and rudder)

Option to turn the ship lights on or off

Manual sail control

Crew on ship

Open/Closed gun ports toggle (no complex/ demanding animation needed)

Better day/night sky transitions

Earth curvature

I understand the performance concern in crowded situations for some of these, but the game can automatically dumb down graphics settings when this happens. There are other MMOs that do this.

I'd like to add:

Sort for warehouse (alphabetical, category, etc)

"Move all to warehouse" from ship that auto adds to existing stacks

"Known features"  Terrestrial locations that become known after enough time in sight of them.  i.e. if you patrol around a certain port long enough, your crew can recognize it from afar.  Certain islands or peninsulas could fit in this category.  You could add a fixed time, like two weeks, that if you don't see it, you no longer recognize it, but at least if you're in "familiar" waters you'd know where you are without having to deduce it (like if you log out in mid-ocean, and log back in and not know where you are).

Love Always,

OranjeBeered

New upgrades that could be craftable, should be craftable.  Like for example sails.

Not good for PvP if some people have and others dont.

I have sails btw.  but I feel it is not nice if others do not.

Uncraftable permanent prices go very high.  I do not recommend to have uncraftable permanents in the game.  Regular uncraftables already have very high prices.  It is questionable if uncraftables should even exist.

Maybe "Carpenters" or "Marines" etc. should be available in the capital.

After returning from successful missions, Captains could have a chance to get them there.

Capitals and Regional Capitals only. This would make RCs even more important to capture. Especially if they make national marines have different qualities; like US marines are better at musketry and gives a boost to musket attacks, ES marines are better at fencing and give a boost to sword fighting attacks, etc, etc for each nation. And marines from each RCs should retain whatever original nationality marine boost.

I'm not sure if this has been discussed in detail, and it's certainly not a "little" thing, but it is something I thing would make the game more realistic.  As of now, capturing an NPC trader follows a predictable path.  Wear down armor and grape the crap out of them, or slow them down and board.  Then you kill everyone on board.  That killing everyone on board bothers me.  For one, it makes the process of capturing an NPC tedious and bothersome.  Not to mention that it's often not much worth it.  You get a few thousand gold and a piddling amount of cargo.  Below I have some ideas for a more realistic capture.

When an NPC is demasted and dead in the water, it would surrender.  It takes me about ten runs of stern raking at the masts to demast the ship (this is me being impatient and just firing a rolling broadside as I pass by the stern, hoping to score at least several direct hits on the masts).  Forcing me to then post up on the ship's stern and kill everyone is pointless, the battle is won.

When the NPC is dropped below a certain percentage of crew (say less than 50%), the captain would certainly surrender.  This just makes sense.

I don't play PVP, but I've thought about the way that could play out as well.  Put a type of penalty for losing a ship or all of your crew.  Being dropped to 0 crew or losing a ship was met with a Court Marshall back in the day.  Now obviously there's no easy way to enable a Court Marshall for every person that is sunk or loses all of her crew, but you can do something else.  Perhaps a perk applied to the player "Till the bitter end" that would drop morale on the ship.  I'm not sure how morale affects the ship in total, but it could lead to slower or faster reloads, yard turns, etc. This is just a thought, and maybe some experience penalty could be applied to a player that loses a ship (to sinking) or crew as well.  It doesn't have to be extreme, but it would certainly make them more apt to surrender.  Losing crew right now just means buying some more, so maybe a hundred thousand dollars if you're in a large ship.  But if you're in a large ship, you more than likely have that money at hand and it's not a huge deal breaker.

Let me know what you think, improvements upon the idea are appreciated!
