i just mean...adding other nations is a valid thing to do.

But i believe it could have been timed better, such as in when the game actually releases, and if the population numbers actually are able to support current nations losing players to new nations.

What port was that? - The Brandenburgers had a license to sail and sell slaves through the danish island of St. Thomas, but that didn't constitute a colony per se but just a settlement in Denmark-Norways carribean possesions..

Seems there were 3 "colonies" in the North-America region

The first wasn't a prussian/brandenburgian colony since they leased the space from the danish-norwegian kingdoms, the third were merely an occupation and the second I have never heard of. I can say for certain tho that the St. Thomas colony were under the danish-norwegian jurisdiction and as such not a brandenburgian colony. It did however have self-rule to some extent as long as legal conflicts didn't involve danish-norwegian citizens or citizens from surrounding colonies. In regards to punishment of its slaves for transgressions like stealing or marooning the brandenburgian community governed itself but not if the slaves stole from citizens of the general colony.

why do players leave? ( in perspective)

well no good upgrades, on your part ( he who has the best upgrades wins )

[in wot there were the tree mods>>  and it cost them hundreds* of players ]

no access to equal upgrades (if you tell a player good upgrades are rare and perhaps not accessible to them they are not only waiting ,    but gone as well)

and definitions of ships (what does this ship do) no tuts..(the unseen player who is new or is it an alt )

overpowered ships, (you think)

stupid pvp  marks and notes (are not helping the average player)[ pvp marks are still  a no-no for this game at this stage]

>>> and you think ...duh! .. i m out

simple.1+1+1+1+1=other games attract more..and i will wait a while... its still alpha

ask your self,>  why do people wait,...( is a more appropriate question)

*or many thousands  but i will not exaggerate,.. a hard example is there , and a hard lesson will be learned (but not today)

Vieques apparently for a short time.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vieques,_Puerto_Rico

The Spanish did not, however, permanently colonise Vieques at this time, and for the next three hundred years it remained a lawless outpost, frequented by pirates and outlaws. As European powers fought for control in the region, a series of attempts by the French, English and Danish to colonise the island in the 17th and 18th centuries were repulsed by the Spanish. The island also received considerable attention as a possible colony from Scotland, and after numerous attempts to buy the island proved unsuccessful, the Scottish fleet, en route to Darien in 1698, made landfall and took possession of the island in the name of the Company of Scotland Trading to Africa and The Indies. Scottish sovereignty of the island proved short-lived however, as a Danish ship arrived shortly afterwards and claimed the island. From 1689-1693, the island was controlled by Brandenburg-Prussia as the "Isle of Crabs" (German: Krabbeninsel).

So yah 1689-1693 I think it was only used as a spot to resupply trade ships for that short time or something. I couldn't find much more info on it.  Hell I don't even know why I found that little mention.  Than again I google some pretty odd stuff when I get bored lol

I don't think upgrades make that big a difference.  A lesser skilled captain is not going to win on upgrades.  It's just that the best players also have the best upgrades and don't lose them often.  It is a gulf widening issue more than balance.

This game does fine with zero or easily obtained upgrades.  It is an unnecessary mechanic.

Why did I leave? Where do I start?

the game is just one big grind and I never did take to the idea of an open world. I wanted more of a sandbox game like way back in sea trials not a sailing simulator. This whole idea of having a limited amount of crew members do this and that seems tedious, hell even the starting rank won’t fully crew a basic cutter. Gold is plentiful but experience is pitiful. I’m not a fan of trading I want combat which is why I went pirate nation. I don’t get that, I sailed for 20 mins with no ships in sight. This game had potential but I just feel it doesn’t have the community for open world. The new Naval Action Legends beta is what I and many others want not a mostly empty open sea.

this is a sailing game during the golden years of piracy and trading yet the seas are bare, a battle should be on every horizon but sadly no. This game was good once but it became too complicated and now if you miss out on the slightest thing everything falls apart!

this game has turned into dayZ...that’s the best way I can describe it. Development has become too focused on adding game mechanics such as trading and port battles and crafting but neglected the finer things such as damage models. We don’t see ships split in half or gone missing piece by piece instead we get ships going down straight filled with visual tiny holes. It loses its realism which is the most disappointing of all.

This is the game that shouldn’t have been, should have stayed in dry dock. Sea trials was the high point of the game. GameLabs is a hell of a developer but they don’t have the pull to get a title like this populated as say Activision or EA games do.

Naval Action Legends is what the game started as and it’s what the game should have stayed...in a year or so Legends will be the main game and Naval Action open world will be the side attraction.

i believed in this game I really did but I’m sure that most of the community agree it’s all the same, sail here to pick up or do this, sail back and craft this as a part of this. You can tell I speak the truth due to the fact that servers are scarcely populated when compared to the initial release...even the first call of duty has more active players to date and it came out in 2003!

i will stick with Naval Action Legends until I see drastic improvement but alas I fear it’s too late unless devs totally revamp damage, ship sinking, tone down the grinding for exp and crafting and finally add a couple hunded or even thousand more bots.

that is why I quit playing in a nutshell.

Why the hello kitty would a ship split in half? And you talk about realism?

A ship can split in half or even capsize. I dare you to sit there and tell me that if a ships magazine exploded it would remain in one piece in real life. Look at the ww2 wreck of the USS Arizona!

I won’t lie when I admit I’m wrong about one thing...the core idea of the game is good contrary to what I said previously. It also escaped my notice that the game is still under development and that most issues I pointed out can be tweaked.

So you're complaining that there isn't pretty eyecandy for certain rare events? How does that improve the game?

It's a huge expenditure of resources for something that is 100% cosmetics.

Look at Empire: Total War. They had ships blow up in two pieces, but it looked like crap, and they only had like five ship types, which also looked like crap.

@Captain Comery if you left the game and no longer play it, why you come in here to spew and sprinkle negativity when you aren't even actively in the participation of "testing" phase. This game is still "in development".

Complaining about the developers is not critiquing the game to make it better. To do so, would be to actively help be insightful of the game's mechanics and possible corrections with data to back up your insight.

Shoo mosquito... Go suck some other game's blood elsewhere.

Actually....  to me, the game is in the best state since late 2016...  Sure, theres a few balancing issues to work out, but I find he game eminently playable.  Challenging, yet fun.  Theres a nice scramble to nail down some bases and players are using "man-made" diplomacy like before the "Diplomacy Patch".

The only thing missing is about 1000 players.  But it seems to me that things are steady, and maybe increasing slowly.  Starting to see some old familiar faces come back.  Hell, I even noticed some of the KOTO guys back.

I've even noticed some traders around Freetowns again.

Ok maybe my post was too harsh. I’ve figured out that I was only looking at the negatives of the game and basing my views on features I don’t use or understand a lot. The game is very complex yes but I guess it’s emmersive and the lack of ships is no doubt temporary.

fought a trader snow today and didn’t realise they changed it so traders had full cannons now, boy did I get a shock but it was kinda fun. Guess all I needed to do was get back into the game.

honestly sometimes I forget it’s still alpha.

Thanks for backing off. We, who still play, are justifiably sensitive to someone who just trashes without some constructive comment.

However, your original post does indicate a big problem: so much of this game is hidden and not explained and I don't mean "hidden" as in a cool, opportunity to explore sort of way. It's hidden as in new or returning players get so little guidance. Hopefully the new UI and tutorials that the Devs are working on will remedy this.

Keep sailing.

We where talking about this last night on TS that a lot of guys jump the gun about new patches and changes and even the game it self haven't even logged in and tried things out.  Even worse they are going off what a friend told them.  I went through a lot of the steam reviews and found a lot of negative reviews where things like this. Folks jumping in thinking this is a finished game or expecting something like  NA:L and than writing  a bad review about a little part of the game.  While still giving a bad review many of them speak about the really fun great things too.  Why make it a negative if there was good things too?   To many folks just seem to want to hate and crap on things they don't understand.

I'll be honest it's prob good some folks stop playing, maybe they will come back later and find a game they love.  Some folks are not cut out to do beta or alpha testing cause they get to attached to things and don't like changes as things move along.  Right now I love the new mechanics, do I think they need tweaking?  Oh yah a lot of tweaking but they are heading more and more in the right direction. I also understand other things won't be worked on until the core of the game is done.  Maybe that will be some real pirate mechanics, but instead of complaining I moved to another nation to test out the new no capital nations and play something different.

Agree think Steam reviewers should be required to complete minimum number of hours before posting a review and MUST consider the games development stage and not review the title as if it's final release.  Numbers of negative reviews is extremely unfortunate and in no way a clear reflection of NA accomplishments unique to PC gaming and it's current stage of development  imho.

I still maintain my thoughts from a while ago.

too many nations, too many servers (prior to this month) and not enough content.  Good MMOs, even the sandbox ones provide their casual player base (the pve carebears) with enough reasons to keep coming back to the game.  NA only has one flavor of PVE content and it's grinding the same tired old AI.  More ships is not content.  Simple additions would make this game 100% better.....like mission variety (search n destroy, escort, delivery, exploration.....), player created bounties and ship contracts, daily/weekly challenges....you name it.

Sandbox games require players and we don't have enough.  They left because the game didn't keep them interested.

I agree we need players. And I do think it is a big problem in the late test phase.(I think we are there). Yes you can fix bugs and that stuff. But do you get the right pictures on the content of the game?

I see problems in the fact that ppl compensate to get the game to work for them. Just to name the one that I think is the biggest. Use of alts. But thats maby just me and on release, it will turn up to be no problem:

The only problem with alts is that they give false figures with the amount of players playing the game that’s all

So you dont think they gave a wrong picture about how the RvR competition worked, when every player above flag in a nation got a vm. Ore maybe what ppl have to do to gather the ressources to craft. Ore maybe how ppl get rare items/ressources from a port held by another nation. I would have thought so, But I just take your word for it.
