Player selected ship 2017 - Suggestions

admin

Recommended Posts

Just in case the rule clarification kills off my original post suggestions in this thread the ship I most want to see created for the game, in case anyone hasn't got the message yet (which is fairly unlikely). my suggestion is Fama, she has everything you need to model her, would fit in fantastically in the game, offering something that while she is significantly more gunned than Constitution, Fama's small frame (if I understand it right how the devs calculate toughness) makes her quite a bit more vulnerable, especially to crew loss due to so many men being packed so closely together.

The main advantage of Fama is that she has huge high quality plans available in Das Erbe der Serenissima.

However, If my original post still stands I would love to see the possibility of La Harpe and Muiron make it in too although given the choice I would much prefer to see a true Venetian ship, completed by the Venetians, not a ship completed during the occupations.

I was also hoping to get something proper done for the Palma class, sadly I haven't found any plans for her yet.

Le plan ("taken off") du vaisseau HMS Athenian, ex-Athénien (selon Demerliac) ou L'Athénienne (selon Lyon) français, ex-Saint Jean ou San Giovanni maltais (Lyon, Sailing Navy Ship List, p.240)

Commentaire de Lyon:

I wonder why you did not pick wilhelmina?

She was suggested at the begining of this thread, in his long list. But she carries 54 guns and is a double-decker. Are double deckers accepted in the poll at that gun range(50-60)? I'm not sure if you can call them heavy frigates since those are the ones you are looking for. The ones i have proposed at that gun range who are double deckers as well, were proposed only because are from the preffered nations.Same with the Dutch ships suggested from other people i suppose.

Anyway there she is

U mean the 54 gun ship, then she too can be a very nice addition to the game since she then will be the first 'low gun' two decker ingame but the main reason why i didn't want to do the whole list so i picked a few, and why the Admiraal de Ruyter, the name says it all even to this day he is considered one of the best if not the best Admiral in the world to this day. In the navalbase of Den Helder there is a statue of him and foreign ships lay down a bunch of flowers or whatsorts to honor him.

I propose the Texas Navy Sloop-of-War Austin:

hiG0Bye.jpg

The Austin was a 600 ton ship-rigged sloop in the Second Texas Navy that is most famously remembered for being immortalized on the cylinder of the 1851 Colt Navy revolver. The scene engraved on the Colt depicts the 1843 Naval Battle of Campeche Bay, between the Mexican Navy and the Republic of Texas and Republic of Yucatan naval forces. This battle is notable as the only time an all-sail-powered force defeated an enemy with steam powered vessels.

She carried a crew of 23 officers and warrant officers, 151 sailors and marines and was armed with 16 medium 24-pound cannons, two 18-pound medium cannons, and two 18-pound long cannons. She began construction in 1839 as the Texas in Baltimore by the Schott and Whitney firm, and was delivered to the Texas Navy and commissioned on 5 January 1840 under the command of Captain Edwin W. Moore, TN.

In addition to her participation in the actions off of the coast of the Yucatan against Mexico, she was able to capture several enemy vessels as prizes.

She was commissioned into the United States Navy on 11 May 1846 following the annexation of the Republic of Texas into the United States where she served in Pensacola until she was stricken in 1848.

Here are some more pictures of the Austin
