suject on the thought: Time sink in OW solution on fast pieces of water

perhaps a  other idea is , you have a button, where you have every 3 hours ,... 2-3 minutes of double speed sailing ....only for traders.... at a certain area on the map ...

call it trade-wind areas

in the middle of the empty map areas

where pvp actions not really exist...

and at some angle for wind

the button called:  trade-wind

also >> what will highlight (green ) when in the area,  and with a good sail  angle  for that direction  - /  + 30  degrees

would be a nice addition to the game

EDIT:for more clarification on the actual subject

trade wind did in good conditions an extra 5 knots ,..in the game that will give in the trade-wind aria 12 kn +5 kn = x2 =34 knots trade wind (at double speed )

it can also count for warships as well

a other duration of trade-wind  time duration

weather condition is not important for the discussion.

the place where the trade-wind should be active is a matter of discussion

Not a likely change. Trade ships were slowed by the load they carried because PvPers complained they couldn't catch them. Improving your chance to get away would just start that complaint up again.

Instead of supersonic speed zones, use the same areas for storms .  Storms that require players to sail attentively to avoid potential damage to one's ship.  Put these storm zones in the middle of the open areas so that players have the choice to hug the coastlines if they dislike storms.

The travel in game is fast enough.  If we push these speed boats any faster we should give them wings or hydrofoils.

fighting in bad weather is pointless indeed

but actually, this topic is more about the time sink for sailing in fast and endless O W water arias

look at the  vid^^

Nice video, if a relatively monotonous narrator,  but has nothing to do with what I said.  See big animated map posted by Duke. That's what I am talking about wanting. And ships are slowed by load in the OW as well as in combat instance from what I've seen. Although that is a subjective and unmeasured impression.

While this isn't about combat: I had no problem fighting is rough seas. It's just that most people want this game OW and BI to be too easy.

Weather and trade winds would give it more a realistic feel.

Who ever complained about rough seas?  Those were the best maps ever.

I'm all for realistic winds, but realize it isn't going to speed things up, and going east is going to be a pain.

Also, despite all the fun at first look, after a while people were barely playing them, not to say even hate them.

You didn't get to choose the maps, it was in a rotation.  I certainly don't remember this.  I mean, yes, there were some people who complained, and maybe a couple people who would quit the game, but it never seemed widespread, at least during the North American playtime.

I remember washed over 6th rates (visually a messy affair) and thus it was said they should not be allowed to enter (otherwise sink).

Gamers complaining that you should get damaged sails. Realists acknowledged that would happen, unless you sailed under storm sail plan.
PvPers cried they would not see themselves sunk by something other than player cannons.

Realists noting that you should only be able to use the weather deck during storm (and visually close all shutters).

In the end: 90 minutes of bobbing in a 3rd rate trying to pop 9pd-ers at heavily swaying targets amounting to nothing much.

Tune it back down and you basically get a normal battle.

I think it should come back, so you can very rarely experience it or use it to your advantage. But this should not become a flip of the coin.

it seems trade-winds are not going to be introduced...

but we still can introduce them as a simulated comparison in what we have now for the double speed

if we look at speed, we see the average  vessel is going 12 knots more or less

give the speed a 5 knots boost

the trade winds speed are about max 17 knots, what means that the double speed comes to a max speed of 34 knots after 30 seconds for average vessel speed

the benefits are obvious the game speed is increased a bit

and it has the same speed as trade winds

also, you will have a better overview on surroundings (you don't have to use [home]  that much )

also, the reach from the upgrades for speed is stretched out a bit more and gives a better effect of the use of more  upgrades on one vessel
