Didn't you watch Black Sails? Pirates were a nation.

But yeah those pirates are a real problem on global.  Instead of trying to compete in the game lets get on the forums and try to nerf them out instead.

Heaven forbid they can do PB's and sail Sol's. Such sin.

Liberating says the US player.  the whole post is about nerf and QQ (notice every poster is from global and none of them are pirates ofc).  Guess we'll see you at the next lineship pb in your 5th rate doing some 'liberating' to show the pirates what they are missing out on. Can't wait for that.

I watched Black Sails and thought it was a good show. However Black Sails was loosely based on pirate activity in the Bahamas circa 1718 and Woodes Rodger's term as governor. Even on the show, which took liberties with the history, one could hardly call the pirates a "nation" similar to the others in NA. A loose association might be a better description, in particular at the end of the show. (BTW: Woodes Rodgers was not killed by pirates and continued as governor driving off a Spanish invasion.)

Don't be so quick to assume it is some national player beaten by pirates making these suggestions. A quick forum search will turn up dozens of threads on how to make pirates a real pirate faction not just a nation with a black flag. Many of these suggestions were made by and for pirate players.

So freind, what then separates Pirates from Sovereign Nations of the can have more Crew?

Ok then, follow your premise, the Pirate player that can only build up to 4th rate as the original post say due to the restricted shipyard at level 2, gets his Alt to buy or somehow gets a Bellona or Bucc.

Why then would you want to be a Sovereign Nation?

Lets all play Pirates for its better than the restriction on the Nations.

We got to have pluses and minuses for what you play.

Pirates, it's all about the plunder.

Sovereign Nations is all about the expansion of Ports, so SOL PBs are then only.

If no variation at all, well lets go full Arcade Style NA Legends.

Well With no Resource Buildings anywhere but MT your limited in what you can get easily.. Nationals not so much...  Why 500 crew? Several Pirates controlled multi ship fleets.  Sure they were smaller ships.. But they also were not worrying about getting chased down by a dozen 3rd Rates with a Frigate fleet escort EVER..  A well built 3rd rate or even a Buc can be upgraded and skilled into a Very nasty pirating ships.. they are fast and mean... ..

The thing I would like to see would be  having to set Shares for your crew... This will then determine your replacements rather then buying them each round.. When you sell ANYTHING the shares for your crew(your current numbers ) come out up front..

Then add in a Proper Pirating Leader board...

The system would grant you a Gold value for everything you capture. Since that is what Pirates are supposed to do... But we also need a in game Ransom option in Battle for Traders to buy their freedom and this amount would also add in to the total..

Then it lists your Booty gathered .....

Your point are valid p, but miss the main point.

lets give you the Occum's razor version.

It's about getting 2 different playing styles.

if you want SOL and big PB, go a Sovereign Nation.

if you want OW PVP go Pirate.

I think folks loose the sarcastic tone when it's posted in text.

Though I have heard that the Devs said we won't be getting any changes to pirates until all the other stuff is done and it prob won't be until after release or something.  So don't expect any changes any time soon.  We are a nation so deal with it.  Though I have posted many times my view on this where i think they should make it a Privateer faction that you can't create a char but have to become one through a reputation system.  Every new player has to pick a nation to play the game so there will be only 7 starting nations for any new players.  To become a pirate you must do something pirate like.  Remember the old system where you attack your nation to become pirate (the way I become a year or more ago).  Well you loose reputation with that nation and you become a pirate.   Than if you want to become a privateer you have to earn the proper rep and buy a letter or Marque for that nation.  I'll give an example:

Lil Texas is a US player and he hates the US nation and all it's politics and inter fighting (sounds like me).  So he decides he wants to go out on his own. He attacks a friendly trader and becomes a pirate loosing reputation with the US nation.  He continues to attack us ships.  At this time US and Brits are at war with each other so every time he sinks a US ship he gains a slit bit of reputation with Brits.  He decides that it's time to be more profitable and he gets a Letter of Marque to be a Privateer for the Brits.  While he has this letter he no longer is treated as a Pirate in the eyes of the Brits, but any other nation will still be able to sink him.  He can join the Brits fights (port battles included) but can't build/craft anything in Brits ports.  He can have outpost in them though.  If he gains enough reputation he can gain the chance to become a permanent British player.

While some one is a Pirate/Privateer/Outlaw they can use any freeport/Pirate haven.  Pirate haven are the free-towns and traditional ports that was pirate havens.  They can put up out post in these ports but only buildings in Pirate Havens for crafting.  They can't have ship yards or limit it to only level 1 or 2.   Any thing bigger they have to buy or capture.  They have a few special ships like the Pirate Frigate and hay maybe the Xebec (seen the picture going around)?

This system would need a good reputation system in game for each nation in relation to your char and his actions.  This will help small nations get numbers by hiring Privateers for there nations.  They can limit the Letters of Marque depending on nations population or active players maybe so you can't have a whole clan flood one nation to make it OP. Like if BLACK wen GB to help them roll the map when GB is the largest nation.  I would say the letters need to be a clan thing.  The more clan members you have the more expensive they can be for big clans or they can be player base so that some clans can actually fight on more than one side of the Nationals.

I also think they need to combine DANES/DUTCH/SWEDS so there is only Brits, French, US, Spain and DDS 5 Nations and the Privateer factions.  Guys that don't want to play Privateers will be the outlaws/true Pirates.

Oh I dont want SOLs cant stand them... but not allowing people the option to acquire them(no matter ow hard it is runs players off)... plus as was mentioned someone using one would be the target of everyone in game National and pirate alike just because. Heck you want to make it tough on them no Missions over 4th rates for Pirates.. Since that would be biggest built... why do you need a higher level mission:)

Give us Kidd's Harbor for basic resources and crafting needs, then let us focus on free towns for strategic outposts. With no RvR, there wouldn't be much of a need for line ships, but if we wanted one bad enough, force us to steal them from other players. It would be nice to be able to place contracts in enemy ports under this system, but I wouldn't want to make it too attractive to be a pirate... there's too many fake pirates as it is :P

Goodness me, another pirate thread? We've had quite a few of them recently.* They really should have a dedicated thread for this subject for ideas, to keep them together. Obviously how the pirates are currently handled is one element (parts of) the community want changed. I'm not going to repeat my views word for word (last reply to the 'Make Pirates Pirates' thread, if you're interested), but a quick, general list will suffice:

  • No capturing ports, but raiding should be an option
  • Turn MT into a Free Town, pirates operate out of Free Towns.
  • Can capture any player ship, but limited production capabilities up to 6th Rates
  • No nation chat, no clans, nothing in-game to help pirates be organised. Pirates should primarily be individuals romping around attacking traders/ships they're confident of beating; if they want to be organised they can do it outside of the game.

I apologize for the redundancy! But hopefully the more threads that pop up about the issue the more the devs will feel inclined to look in to the issue ;) I like your ideas, though I think they should probably still retain a dedicated chat.

1. yes

2. yes

3. I would argue for 5th rate production since most pirates use 5th rates. We would still have to figure out a way to get the resources to make the ships...

4. Disagree. Historically, pirates communicated with each other and were somewhat organized. I would be okay without the nation chat, but don't see a reason to get rid of clans.

I'm not a Pirate, not even a PvP player however, I do think Pirates should be a unique faction in this game. If they are no different than the other nations, what would be the draw, the name Pirate?

I was chatting with some Pirate players in-game and asking them questions about their "nation" and it seemed to me they had limitations (eg: ships they can have), but I could not figure out what benefits over other nations they had to counter-balance those limitations. In other words, they got the short end of the stick! Their missions seem to be the same than the nations', their bases of operations do not seem to confer any particular advantage, they lack resources,  there is really nothing that would compel me to join the Pirate "nation" at this time!

I personally don't have any suggestions, but I do support the Pirates' requests to become a unique faction.
