A later picture

The wind was in favor to prevent the advancement of the Swedish Fleet.  The decisive attack ordered by the British Admiral into the center of the Swedish Fleet sinking the mortar brig was no less tactically noteworthy than Alexander's victory at the Battle of Gaugamela.  The loss of their mortar brig doomed the Swedes to sailing upwind against the British lighter fleet and  into the fire of the formidable Frozen Cay fortress,  leaving them with a foreboding burden.  There was an attempt by the Swedes to draw across the British fleet into a trap but it failed to develop and with the surrender of their final light ship, the Swedes were left without options for victory and retreated from the battle.

Huzzah for the all the British!  Valiant effort by the Swedes.

Pyrrhic victory at best for GB. Lost three Surprises, a Mercury, and Hercules and was only able to take out a Mortar Brig, Requin, and have the other Requin surrender towards the end. Was actually having a social life for a change which was nice so I could not be there. From what I was told it was a good fight between everyone and hopefully things like this continue where things can be sporting.

Patch 30 claims more sailors.

Scrap outside Charleston. Some of these fellas were smack talking our frigate squadron. We got wind of it and brought a proper fleet. Two battles happened, this one was relatively even (US even had a higher BR than us).

GG US, thanks for the fight.

total BS that you can lock the rest of the nation out of a battle right in front of their capitol port. New ROE is the worst decision ever by the Devs-- getting locked out of the battle while you watch the enemy join is the opposite of immersion. Total fail.  Why make this game more like the arena game, that spectacularly failed, is a reason I can't understand. BR limits and trying to balance the battle is a game killing idea.

But is it not possible to join a fight in the Capitol area. Lets say a new guy tag an low BR ship  in his Mercury. Will this battle not be open? Do you think if the battle is open a vet, will not kill this guy, just because he is a new(low rank) player?

if im comming on trinco, and im fck idiot - yea, i can atack mercury(yea, we have people like that, this is a problem - true). But im have more BR, and battle open 20 min. Santisima can join this battle and say me "hello". Or another good player on trinco.

we have to figure out how to protect this mercury - this is true. New players should not suffer.
But this is a measure that should not protect Counter Admirals on the Santisims. Because this is a harsh era pvp game

leave the capital area and live free from the shackles that bind you.

I’ve always found it much easier to spend 5 mins talking to a noob on TS or Pm teaching him where to sail to a port that is mostly free from raiders and setting him up with a small amount of help where he is free to grind his career up in relative safety  and freedom.

A far better option than sailing out to save the helpless over and over again around a capitol zone, wasting his time and mine.

and the helpless and the "savior" both get angry and frustrated. I agree with you - always good to have a good talk with them and show them better areas.

and about beginners - no one will attack the basic Cutter, links, mercury, etc. and this players have capital protected area.

If you are a US player in those ships you still get attacked. Watch a bunch of French players in Bellona gank a cutter leaving Charleston.

I tend to hit anything that comes across my path within reason including cutters, especially with delivery missions and they could be carrying books, doubloons, or upgrades on them as well.

But then again we actually are going to advice ppl how to avoid fighting. That sound right?

We would advise them to choose targets wisely and know your limitations. Do not create conflict when it is one that can spiral out of control and out of your favor.

By the way this is not the thread for this. Not picking on Routan. Just stating rather than making a double post. This subject should be in a thread of its own or discussed privately.

To be fair....They were baited out of the capital area into battles that they could not swarm into.  Frankly I think it’s preposterous that you can’t join battles within sight of the capital, but then I’m jn favor of an expanded capital zero battles zone.  Not in this thread though.

Well, this is what happens when reinforcement zones get removed, and capital battles are joinable by all.

Best thing about that screen shot is seeing ya'll actually sink KoC lol....ya'll where very heavy stack that day with that large of group and ships.  Honestly when I see ya'll go up the coast I make econ runs else where lol

Frozen Cay BORK vs Brits

Brits defend Frozen

Was an enjoyable battle, but the wind got the better of us and the Brits worked their kite magic to make it very difficult. GG WP - until next time o7.

Nice to see CKA is some what alive now.  Maybe we can see a bit more of them in US prime time when the game releases?  I really would like to see a more spread of players among more than just two or three nations.  Maybe we can get some active US, GB, French, Swede in our time zones so it's no all stacked in one nation.....which seems pirates is very heavy stacked with active players right now.

I spent an hour last night trying to convince them of this...  oh well....

That is a problem new players got pride in the nation and want to fight, they don't understand it's best to leave the capital areas and fight else where.  So instead they run out there to be slaughtered while pissing off Vets cause they think we are cowards or stupid for not wanting to fight.  All the while we know who is out there in in what ships and it isn't a fair fight skill/or BR wise.

You think when they see combat news they would just avoid the coast line as Pirates come up it, but instead there is still a group that rush out in crappy ships that have no business in such fights to get sluaghtred.  Even if they sink a few it's not hurting the hunters cause they have so many CM and Doubloons it's nothing to loose a ship.

We already have the Active US player bases.

what isn't happening is US player bases "showing" where they are based on Port Battles. If the players in the US nation wanted to find other people to fight then you got to commit some time to grinding. They found that the Prussians still fight the other day :P.

Cerb was sunk by the time I arrived at the battle. Stallone boarded AI Surprise, he sent it to retreat just as I got to him. A merry dance lasting about 20 minutes where I whittled down his side armour while Van Damme tried to cover his side. Alas to no avail, he only prolonged the inevitable as I sunk the Inger by knocking down his side and structure.

After he sunk, turned on Aga and knocked crew down, knocked rudder out as he tacked through wind and boarded. Unfortunately AI got credited with the kill by just sitting there shooting his hull.

Screening fight for Ruatan.

We set a PB for Ruatan at a terribly late hour...

Our PB fleet got screened by some US players who decided to stay up late. This was the result:

(thanks to random disconnect in the middle that reset numbers of hull hits, sails, etc....making it look like I did nothing in the fight LOL).

Anyways, thanks for the fight US.

As far as I know some GB players screened parts of their PB fleet out, rendering them unable to win the PB. Which was in turn the reason for them flipping Ruatan and the US screening for us :D

Don’t forget the Swedish fireship that was possibly the worst fireship ever to of sailed the seas( the sailor in question shall remain anonymous) exploding a mere 10 nautical miles away from the nearest enemy vessel.

@Teutonic, basically this:

GB and Swedes were in the area, we were running a few minutes late, so we decide to forsake the PB in favor of a fight with the screeners (ultimately, we didn't want the port, as much as we wanted a fight). Unfortunately for us, the Brit fleet and US screen fleet, in typical fashion, kited and ran most of the battle, with the only notable action being the Swede fireship attempt.

After the big screen battle where nothing really happened, we ganked a ship or two and they did the same to us.

Honestly, I can't blame them. After patches 27-30, why bother risking any line ship in a fight you might lose? Because replacing a decent ship is darned near impossible these days (exaggeration, but nobody wants to spend weeks getting stuff for a ship). No point in fighting a "good" battle anymore, unless you're confident you'll win. RIP Naval Action (but that's a topic for another thread). I shudder to think about all the PvE grinding I'll need to do to replace my ships after the wipes.

We had planned to flip Ruatan earlier in the evening for a proper primetime fight where we could have a PB fleet + screeners, but stuff came up and the grinding got pushed back till later. Shame we were a few minutes slow in winning the screening fight, as it was, we nearly made it into the PB, missing the join window by mere minutes.
