Add back duel room?

  1. 1. Add back duel room?

    • No, it drains too many players out of OW
    • Yes, i like suggestion 1
    • Yes, i like suggestion 2
    • Not sure, because... (post below)
    • Yes, but add it back in its original form (suggested by @Benedict Ahhnold)
    • Yes, but make it a skirmish room, kinda like the old small/large battles, but without loss and rewards (suggested by @Anne Wildcat)

I really liked to use the duel room to teach newbies manual sailing, boarding, tactics, tips and tricks or just to try out the handling of a new ship. Right now, there is no way to fight against clan or nation members. (first poster suggesting me to buy an ALT gets beheaded)

Suggestion 1:
Since you want to bring more players to OW, make duel rooms only available in Free Towns (and you have to be in the same port aswell).

Suggestion 2:
A lot of MMOs have the option for a clan to build a duel room, dojo, whatever you wanna call it. This could also be a free room where everyone can spawn into with ships of various wood types  and modules.

What do you guys think?

I would add back the Duel Room as something accessible to anyone, in any port, from any nation, with no loss and no rewards.

Anyone want to DUEL? :P

YES please add it back in original form! It was one of my favorite parts of Naval Action because, even when players wouldn't risk taking their lovely gold-modded Santies and Vics out into the OW, they would fight me in the duel room. It was an easy and quick way to quiet the occasional bragging captain who oftentimes couldn't even manual sail properly ;), and I learned the most about fighting in this game from dueling players who are more-skilled than me. Its a great way to train newer players and get better at specific tactics.

I'd actually like to see the duel room expanded a bit more, to allow for players to arrange fights of differing BR (say, Santa Cecilia vs Constitution, for example), group fights, heavy-weather fights, etc; but I understand we may have to wait for NA 2 for those mechanics.

I think maybe they should add a skirmish room, no ships lost, no rewards, where groups can make battles and join.  Kind of like a Naval Training room.

I have no idea why they removed it... Who demant it? again players want?

Give us a possibility to create practice rooms, and give us tools to manage them, like it's done in a plenty of games. Like it was in POTBS.

Just try this time to develop something useful, not a piece of crap.

Their reason to remove duel, small and large battles was to bring more players into OW. While i can understand that argument for small and large battles, i can not see how a duelroom without rewards would hurt OW gameplay. If they had just kept it and removed the need to have same BR my instructor needs were satisfied! Im okay with not having a tutorial aswell, but then again give us players the tools to teach newbies in a risk free environment.

Combine these two.

How about we combine the two of these and make (steals Anne's)  a Training Room that can be used as both. You can set up duels or do training Skirmishes.  I know we want to keep things OW, but even though I hated Duels as they aren't how fights happen in OW, but they where nice to have to test ships  and new builds.  Making it so you can set them up with a group and teams will allow Nations/Clans to do some training to practice things.   Though I would go as far as WoT training rooms where they can set up port battles and all that.

Since I'm not a big fan of the Duel Rooms cause those fights should be dealt with in the OW and not off sides/camera.  Though I'm all for a training room that a nation/clan can use.  Keep the Nation vs Nation stuff to Open World Duels, but allow for the in nation or clan to have a training room.

skirmish rooms take too much OW traffic away in my oppinion.

Duelrooms should get implement so we can teach our guys how to pvp. most new guys are just ... instantly dead against veteran players TBH

Some players simply dont get it. If you make a boring game, players leave it. They wont come to your OW. They find other games. OW is boring. Nothing happens for hours. Port Battles where fun becourse they where large battles with a lot of ships in them. But the average player will never come near this option anymore. Its impossible. Naval Action has turned into a nerdy part time job. And those few who like this cut all other features in order to fill the OW. But this is not the way it works in a free world of gaming.

Yes, I would love to play a great naval combat game from the napoleonic age. Yes, I like the combat mechanisms, the large battles and the great ship-models. But I also have to say, that you have made all these features exclusive for the few hard-core players. Do this make me come to OW? No. I play other games instead. And Im not a special guy. I guess Im pretty average actually.

It has been such a waste too see a great fantastic game in spe be totally unplayable down the line. A shame if you ask me.

I like option 3 mentioned above. Training room. no risk, no rewards. Just practice.

It would also give new players a chance to see what the big ships are like, which might fuel their interest in sticking with it.

Yes please bring it back.

It will not deduct people from OW-PvP, it will make people not log out of the game completely.

So a Win-Win situation.

Every serious game which relies on PVP has a kind of practice mode. As naval combat is hard to master and as devs are constantly changing mechanics (e.g. masts easy to destroy, masts nearly impossible to destroy, only top masts are to destroy ... and we get NO feedback about that) it is obligatory to practice, either as an AI opponent of our choice which sits just still no shooting no sails or a real player. This is a MUST in my opinion.

If nothing else, give clans a dueling room for training their noobs, practicing their clan maneuvers. The fact that we can't train together is absurd.

Well, kind of.

There's big enough fleets roaming about in enemy territories to be able to entertain a training wing, from 6th rates up to 1st rates.

Ah yes, of course, there's risk of damage.

Regarding teaching basics, attacking an AI trader works perfectly.

No, the trader will leave and after 15 mins the instance closes. I dont want to waste someones times keeping a trader tagged.

Okay, Fair observation. Also, can't the basics be taught while fighting the trader and even getting the small reward it carries ? I mean, it even helps the newcomer.

If not Newcomer, IMO, then properly train with AI fleets, no ? Even raise hostility in enemy waters, in pvp server, and oh, might even get molded in a pvp battle if enemy shows up.

:) being a bit naif I know. With so much content open in the world I see little purpose in having a laboratory for it. Even Crafting builds can be tested with OW content.

Here is an example. I am trying to train a few of our new guys manual sailing, via VOIP and a secure sailing area where the ai wont escape after a few minutes. Somewhere I can walk them through the nuances of manual sailing, heeling, different gunnery modes.... I need to be able to simulate a target via my own ship in several different situations to train them on how to react. You cannot do this easily in OW, and green on green penalties, other people joining the mission, etc.... there is not a single valid excuse or replacement for a clan training ground.

It's not like before wipe 90% of the server population was sitting in the duel room all day, so how could bringing it back, kill off OW?

But thats not really training because ai behaves different then real player you can train manouvers but you cant really train pvp. If you fight a experienced player of your clan in such a room for example he can tell you what you did wrong and how to improve in certain situations.

And if 90% of the population is enjoying a feature we could draw the inference that it would be wise to allow it.

Either way it can't hurt to allow duels

I do not care in what form it is re-implemented. I just want it back because I miss having access to dual for testing and practice..

Maybe the map is just way to big in this game, i get that they want to make it hardcorde but with 400 players online you're going to have a hard time getting any nice fights.
