Le Gros Ventre... What happened to this thing ?

Hi all,

I came back to the game after a long break, still slowly trying to catching up and figure out all the changes made to the game but one of the things that really surprised me is the cargo capacity of the Le Gros Ventre, his name means The Fat Belly in French... well... it looks like she had a low-calories diet and passed from fat belly to anorexia now ...

239666LGV.jpg

It have 1900 cargo when a Trader brig have 1750 or a simple tiny trader lynx have 500, and since last patch all traders can carry guns, even if under-crewed like they are it won't help a lot beside reducing a bit the sails of the enemies maybe, not that the The Gros Ventre can do much against anything, beside shooting the sails of a 7th-6th rate... if it even manages to point the guns on the opponent which is more than uncertain seeing the difference of maneuverability between those, for bigger stuff let's forget about it from a combat perspective ...

Question is why this nice ship became such poor thing ? I was told it's because it is not considered as a trader anymore, but explanations received were not clear and not making any sense at all for me, this thing should have at least 2500 cargo from my point of view.

Also while we are at it , will it ever receive her additional guns like we can see here :

So maybe with those additional guns it will become a bit less useless than it is now, especially if it have stern chasers guns able to tickle a bit the enemies sails.

Anyways, i don't get why this ship receive such treatment and it's quite surprising to come back and see this, even wondered if the 1900 cargo was a bug and the normal value will be 2900 instead but apparently nope it is intended ... So either increase cargo size or add his additional guns to make it fair and balanced... And i did not even seen the speed it have now, hopefully in a few days when i will be able to get one again, it used to be quite fast before and i won't be surprised if it received the nerf hammer also on this part to become an useless whale just good at being meat for any player able to tag it...

Thanks

lol for "L'Anorexique".

She's far from useless.

It doesn't take that much to make ^this very, very hard. A little grinding, some pvp marks <hold up!> and then some RNG loot drops <DAMMIT!> and then you have a fantastic hauler or privateer, even.

Thanks,

Well, if we go the " with this and that RNG stuff on the ship"... it applies also to the ships you have to escape from, the hunters can also have those nice additions and nullify yours... if you are lucky enough to to find them before being captured or sink and loose your ship on the first encounter to start with.

If i make no errors a simple Yacht can get 250 as cargo, it's a tiny combat ship fully loaded with crew and guns outclassing the other ones of his class for cargo space... and the Gros Ventre can not carry ten times what this tiny thing can carry... only able to get 150 more load than a Trader Brig ? This does not compute in my head :P

I'm still discovering how things work now, i saw that slots for upgrades need xp leveling up, still unclear for me as i played the surprise a few times and it seems that attacking AI traders does not give any for example, no matter if they have an escort or are shooting back at you, xp does not goes up for the upgrade slots in my redeem surprise, only pve missions seems to give some XP in this domain for what i could experiment since a couple of days trying to get back on my feet. Still wondering how this works and how it will work for the LGV, will i have to do PVE missions with this thing to get unlock slots ? Will attacking AI low ranked ships or armed traders will give me nothing ?  Still unclear for me.

Also wondering if the cargo weight making your ship loose speed is applied in a linear way across all ships, of if some, like traders dedicated ships, they get less or more penalty than warships and them heavy ballasts loaded to keep them stable and stuff like this,  like i said lot of things to catch up with after a so long break from the game.

Main point is that the LGV should be able to carry more cargo, 2500 will be nice, even 2250-2350 will give it a nice purpose, 500 more than a Trader brig does not seems unjustified, from my point of view at least. And those additional guns on stern will help quite a lot too, the ship isn't cheap to produce compared to a trader brig and for a very little difference when it comes to trading / navigation qualities/ safety value...

And now i just discovered that the LGV is slower than a trader Brig, 11.90 vs 11.95...  Compared to all 6th and 5th rates used for hunting having way better speed i would really like to know how this thing is able to escape something...

This ship in his current state seems to be the perfect definition of masquerade, what a disappointment to come back and see how things have turned for this beautiful ship.

I think devs are adjusting it in the future like they did with the snow before ....

It is just as bad as the trader snow.  Which is almost a full 2 knots slower than the snow, and has the same guns.  BUT half the crew and only 900 cargo space.  When it is about the same size as a trader brig, but only wider.

Look at 60 and 75 degrees to the wind.  It is faster than a Surprise upwind.  So, in the long run it is faster than a Trader Brig, and you should be able to get away from anything.  I'm developing a tool that estimates trip times and at long distance, the LGV handily beats the trader brig, which absolutely sucks upwind.  But I agree it needs more hold space.

For le Gros Ventre, the load capacity is estimated between 350 tx and 400 tx according to the archives.

Gabares similar to le Gros Ventre:

On the wind ~ 4 knots, la Baleine and la Guyana = 6 knots

Board reach ~ 6 knots, sometimes 10  knots

Down wing ~ 6 knots, 8.5 knots for la Guyane

The loadout gap between Trd.-Brig and Trd.-Snow is in no way understandable. Currently the Trd.-Snow cant carry a textile machine or a chest so i would recommend to extend the Snow to 1.550 load or reduce the Brig to 1000. The times of redeemable Tdr.-Brigs are mostly over so there is no reason to keep her as she is right now. Best, Allons!
