Battle join Timers

5 minutes?! 5 goddamn minutes?! 

When i figured out that signalling perk overruled the 5 minute timer i was like; Ok... I can deal with that even though it mean i must sacrifice a Officer Perk to get rid of the the stupid timer. 
Then just now we were told in Global Chat that Signalling isn't supposed to overrule the 5 minute timer..... 

So now i must bring out my pitchfork and torch. And ofcourse gather the people for the riot that is about to happen here.

you have support from me and my rice fields.  If I remember correctly, Admin said that 5 minutes is for testbed, not for after the wipe.

I bet the higher the player numbers are on a server the more annying it gets. But yeah i loved the instant close timer the most but 2 mins ok well i can live with that. But 5 mins make me sad.

That were done by people sitting in port and waiting for an attack to happen right in front of their nose. So they can leave port sail to the location and enter.

What are you talking about. Not only does the quote just show me stating what the timer is in the PvP events but i also always argued for, not against, 2 minute timers and insta close battles.

Please oh god do not leave the 5 minute timer in! Bring back the 2 minute, it was the best we had by far. After all this testing do not make us go back to 5 minutes. ?

Only the handholding people asked for that. NA has stopped holding our hands and 5 min timer is a relic from those days. Time to bring back skill based wysiwyg OW hunting. Help your friends by staying within visual range (actually, just beyond, but even I don't dare to dream of perfect 90 sec timers).

Hahaha i was thinking the same thing but didnt want to say anything.  Of course i will say that if we didnt have no cooldown teleports it wouldnt matter how long the timers are because gankers cant just teleport to the 5 minutestimer.

Heh, I was around for the 10 min send bait and stay behind landmass jumpscare counter gank timers.

OW was basically a competition about who were the bigger collective assholes. Don't need tp to shit on OW hunting. It is known.

Liked the instant closing and larger circle, can't really have one without the other. Ended up in a different fight from another person just a bit behind me because of the small circle size earlier, was kinda awkward and gonna be terrible if it instantly closes and still has a small circle (e.g. an escort being useless if not facehugging a trader at all times).

I think the 2 minutes is kinda the sweet spot-ish.  A lot of our mechanics are based around it (such as 2 minutes to join a fight after leaving a port.)

Definitely hope to see this brought back down to 2 minutes soon.

Yes. 2 minutes. What you see is what you get.

Signaling is under rework so... an additional option might come at the expense of valuable perk points to balance the 2 minutes.

There shouldn't be a timer at all. Starting a battle should perform a visibility check, and anyone out of visual range never even sees the instance.

 

Then the stupid timer can't be adjusted ever again.

This must be the Columbus' Egg of NA ROE. Has admin commented on it? (possible, impossible, difficult, don't want ;) )

Or they could even do distance-based, which is much easier to code. Whatever visual range is on a clear day, plus 50%. Now that there's no teleports, ports can be included.

 

I don't remember seeing the idea put forward anywhere. I feel dumb for not recommending it until now.

Maybe? When things are drawn on a client's screen could be a tag/switch/whatever to use as well? When I start a tag a packet about that instance is only sent to those players the server has already decided I can see? I doant coad, however. ;)

5 Minute timer needs to go, and asap.

Do not make NA go back to the baiting enemy with 1 ship while the main fleet hides behind an island or just off the horizon then sailing to the battle and ganking the victim. Or back to the 1 speed fir ship tagging the enemy and than the enemy piling in after the tag when the speed ship had no intention of fighting.

Please for the love of god restore le 2 minute timer, I do not want to go back to these lame exploits. :(

If you get ganked far down wind and the rest of your fleet is upwind of you then you messed up, and horribly. The 2 minute timer is see what you get, you should be organized as a fleet if you all want to get into the battle. 

Longer timers lead to stupid exploits, and we don't need that in NA.

Wouldn't that be fixed automatically by maturin's idea? Crossed swords aren't visible to anyone not in the ow and not in vis and/or dist range.

Oh, no. This is prolly an issue. Crossed swords are entities you can't easily hide or show to different players? Right now they're there for anyone to see with one timer attached to them. Please tell me I worry to much.

Signalling perk (when it eventually works) could be the answer. But I still hate 5 minute timers.I think where we have to leave battle into ow revenge fleets are a bigger problem.

Would agree with the revenge fleet b.s. They are at your battle location but you can't see them and have no Idea they are coming because the 2 seperate instances, OW & Battle. It's like they teleported to your location, worse than the exit to freindly port imop. :n

The battle timer should be zero minutes and zero seconds.  You are either in or you are out.

I Just don't understand after all these years we still haven't found a solution for Revenge Fleets. You can't argue that having a fleet at your battle location without you being able to see them is any better than exit to free port. We need to find a solution for Revenge Fleets before release. Invisibility didn't work before and it won't work now.  And well the 5 minute timer that needs to go back to 2 minutes in the next hotfix, hopefully. ;o 

Invisibility might work with instant close battles and signaling perk. That way if the speed tagging ships tag you, the slow fleet behind them can't join.
